This monument is very important for Polish history. After 123 years Poland became independent again in 1918. After 2 years later 10.02.1920 in Puck it was symbolic merriage ceremony Poland with sea. Next one was in Kolobrzeg in 1945.

An unfurled flag, commemorating Poland's second marriage to the sea in 1945, when Poland regained its independence and access to the sea, designed by AK member and artist Wiktor Tołkin. Cool sculpture, cool historic artefact.

This place is located by the sea, the long beach and amazing park where you can cycle or just run. A bit crowed in the summer but it's because it a great location. My 6 year old boy loved to ride the bicycle in this park and by the sea.

While walking along the coast of the Baltic Sea in Kolobrzeg, we were introduced by our Polish hosts to the Monument to the Sea of Poland. This 1963 monument commemorates the "wedding" of Poland with the sea on March 18, 1945. It is an interesting attraction rich in history.

You'll encounter this monument on the promenade. The monument is not that impressing for me. But I like the history. The story starts in 1920 when general Haller and his troops reach the Baltic coast and perform a ceremony of marriage to the sea. "After throwing the ring into the water, Haller said the following words: “In the name of the Holy Republic of Poland, I, General Jozef Haller, am taking control of this ancient Slavic Baltic Sea shore”. As they were again occupied by German forces during WWII the ceremony was repeated several places in 1945. This memorial is for the one made in Kołobrzeg. The town was chosen for the main 1945 Wedding to the Sea due to its symbolic importance, as the Germans turned it into a fortress (Festung Kolberg).
