Renaissance city gate, also called the High Gate. The Wyzynna Gate was once the main and most representative entrance to the city and at the same time a defensive object. It opened the so-called Royal Road. It was here that Polish kings and Napoleon were greeted with the keys to the city. Supposedly, Napoleon Bonaparte liked it so much that he offered to divide it, transport it to France in pieces and reconstruct it in Paris. It is a real pearl of the Renaissance decorated with the coats of arms of Poland, Gdansk and Royal Prussia supported by angels, lions and unicorns. Preserved very nicely, in really good condition, currently headquarters of tourist office. A monument overlooked by tourists, of great historical importance.

The Wyżynna Gate , formerly also the "High Gate" is a Renaissance city gate in Gdańsk. Until 1895 it was within the sixteenth century fortifications, between the Bastion of St. Elżbieta and the Kara Bastion. It was the main entrance gate to the city, opening the so-called Royal Way .

Brama Wyzynna is another wonderful and evocative gate in the magnificent Old Town.
Really close to the Main Train Station, known as The Upland Gate this gate was originally surrounded by a 50 metre deep moat ,below the coat of arms of Poland you can still see the metal pulleys that were used to raise and lower the drawbridge.
Built in 1588 this gate house has undergone many renovations and there is a tourist information centre housed in the gate house.
This like all the other fascinating gates found throughout the Old Town are beautiful structures ,this gate looks superb and makes for some great photographic opportunities.
Easy to locate on Ul Waly Jagiellonski or from the Green Gate by the river simply walk down Ul Dluga in an area teeming with pubs ,bars and restaurants and some amazing architecture and a major tourist destination.
Well worth checking out.

The main street of Old Town is the Long street, Dluga. In both ends of the street there's a gate. The Green gate facing the river is absolutely fantastic and the one in the other end, the Brama Wyzynna (the Golden gate) doesn't match with it. You could actually pass through without thinking about it, but it's absolutely worth a stop to be admired. During Christmas time that's the getaway to the fairly big Chistmas market on the other side.

There isn’t much to do or see here but like so many buildings and structures in the city, it’s just beautiful. It is flashy and the gilded 19th century monument is worth a look.

Another great gate house into the main tourist area of Gdansk. Opposite the railway station and easy to find. Currently holds a tourist information centre.

The Uplands gate is right opposite the tram station by the same name. It is basically just a gate now. The ramparts and the moat alongside it were no longer needed and were removed by 18th century. It was originally built in the 16th century and has been repaired many times. But it is very beautiful and decorated only with leaves - different kinds of leaves which i found fascinating. Its a wonderful entry to the Old Town!

Brama Wyzynna gate house is also known as the Upland gate. It is beautiful and is near the railway station. It is clear that this has been renovated and a tourist information centre is based in it.

Looks really good and is of clever design. Well worth a look when visiting the city. Stop of 2-5 mins for photos.

A little bit outside the city centre you will find this monument. I went there during the free walking Old Town tour. Inside you will find one of the touristservices of the city.
