Gdansk has well preserved system of fortifications that surround the historical centre of the city from the southern and eastern side. They are perfectly shaped, the molds are filled with water. They are pretty well kept although a common rumor in the town says the place is unsafe for walks - which is actually not true. Unfortunately the rumor contributes to the fact that there are no cafes or restaurants that would keep the tourists there for a longer period

Motława Channel bastion fortification is massive and today impressively renovated structure; including number of different size bastions, channel, Motlawa as a moat. Along with all the defense systems, it’s also a beautiful park to walk.

Gdansk in the seventeenth century belonged to the richest cities in Europe. The resulting earth embankment encircling the city. They were liquidated only at the turn of the XIX and XX century. For the construction of embankments land was escorted special cable car from the surrounding hills moraine.

Preserved is only a small part of fortifications - Starting from the Lower City (outline of the main bastions and moats) and part of the embankments in the area of the Old Suburbs. Today, walking path.
