The good? The building itself is very impressive, centrally located and we'll served with transport links.
The bad? All of the main buildings were shut for refurbishments and the information available was confusing and annoying.
The ugly? If you travel with the wrong ticket (and it is easily done), expect no mercy from the conductors at al who gleefully crucify any lost foreign tourists.

NB. If you can get your phone to work in Gdansk, use Uber taxis rather than the overcrowded buses and the slow/erratic trams. Buy SKM local train tickets from the kiosk on platform four. Make sure to double check what you are told and what you are given at the ad hoc ticket office in the prefab next to KFC. They have a palpable disregard for customers in general and foreigners in particular.

50 minutes in a que. Information which should work till 9pm closed already at 7.
Huge city, lots of tourists and TWO desks open.
Not mentioning that return travel by train (3 persons) from Leba to Gdańsk costed four times more than by car and lasted twice more time. Very encouraging to take care about environment.
Last time I used public transport in Poland- stressful and dreadful experience.

The station is very beautiful from outside but it has been undergoing renovations inside for more than 2 years, as my friends said. Due to it, when you want to catch a train, you just go to some underground passage and enter the platforms, there is no big sign showing which trains arriving at which platform, there is no place to sit, no shops. I had to ask at the cashier which platform my train would arrive, as I did not find information about it in the app. Plan extra time!

I know that many reviews criticize the station but if you want to visit it merely as a beautiful structure, it is worth a view. It is really, really beautiful!! I did not take a train either into or out of the station but rather jogged though the underground tunnels and accidentally realized that I was at the station. Take a moment and enjoy the fact that, at one point in human history, we cared about how our functional buildings looked.

This station serves 2 main train operators : PKP Intercity and SKM , which can be confusing. PKP is accommodated in the main building , with ticket machines that also have English instructions, and service counters where the attendants speak enough English to get by. If you need the SKM service ( i.e. to visit Sopot where there is a good beach and the longest wooden pier in Europe , and maybe stop off at Oliwa on the way to visit the lovely park ) , then ignore the main entrance, walk towards the KFC at the far end of the station and turn left where you see the platforms . There is a small entrance that takes you into the SKM ticket office where we found all attendants spoke good English. Sopot / Oliwa service runs from platform 3 .

We had our poland trip and our first stop was Gdansk. This central station has nice architecture. However, you need to go outside the building to reach the train platforms.
Be cautious with your things when you ride through platform 1. We had unfortunate event as someone pickpocketed us. There was no CCTV on that platform. Hope the management will install CCTV.

Very low tech, dirty, run-down station. next to no info boards, hard to tell where to go, found correct platform but only clue to which track train would arrive on was on a sheet of paper in a cabinet. Lots of dodgy characters hanging about looking for vulnerable tourists to scam or pickpocket so stay vigilant. Not a pleasant place to spend any length of time. At least the police were quite visible doing foot patrols so that's one small positive.

Did you know you can get the train from Gdansk to Sopot for under 4PLN ie about £1? It's really worth a trip too. The station wasn't too hard to navigate - despite a lot of it being underground, and the ticket bureau told us in English which platforrm to go to.

Stunning building but as my visit wasn't just to admire it's beauty I have to lower the rating. Not an easy place to find your train, platform or time if you don't speak Polish. It didn't help that it was very quiet too almost nobody to ask for assistance.

There are no escalators or lifts down to the platform and up again. They say they are getting built, but I think its been getting built for a long time. Secondly, the entrance to the platforms is 20 meters to one side of the main railway station entry. There are no signs saying that that is where you should head for departures. One goes inside the railway station, and doesn't find the platforms, then one asks around and then one goes back out again and finds the way to the platforms.
Further, there is an information point but "Information Point" is written with grey color on glass and is hardly readable. It is fully enclosed in glass with a woman sitting very much further down in a room. So there is no one actually visible to the public that we did not know for the first 30 mins that we could go there and ask. We tried asking people who did not know English. So the information point is only useful if the person providing the information is in a central place and is visible, like in the rest of the places. What is the point of putting a woman 10 feet inside a room 10 feet inside a room enclosed in glass where no one knows what this is about.
