A beautiful building in the style of Dutch Mannerism. The Great Armory in the Main City of Gdansk is a unique architectural object. The Great Armory building was erected in the years 1600-1605 in the western part of the medieval defensive walls of the Main City. In the years 1997–2005 a lot of significant restoration works were carried out in the interiors and on the facades, the most visible of which was the restoration of the stone attic on the southern facade and the overall conservation of both facades together with the reconstruction of polychrome and gilding on Piwna Street. The Great Armory is definitely one of the most charming buildings of the old city.

The lions on the facade will welcome you in the Great Armoury. A lot of History as every building in Gdansk

The old arsenal building was eyecatching at the end of Piwna Street as I walked up that street from St. Mary's Church. This red bricked building fooled me as I thought it was a notable row house like those I had seen on the old town square. Apparently, the builders wanted to disguise the use of this building from any invaders so camouflaged it with the facade of 4 Flemish style row houses. The facade of this building is breathtaking. Its ornate decor includes Gdansk's city crosses, statues in niches, and heavily sculptured plaster works around each door showing Gdansk's coat of arms. Gilding is judiciously applied to highlight certain features. At the ends of the building are octagonal towers covered with copper domes now turned turquoise. The whole effect is gorgeous. The sign over the building indicated it now was used as an art school. Certainly worth the time to find this building for a photosnap.

This was right at the end of our hotel street so we saw it every day. So much detail in the architecture, keep an eye out for the drain outlets!
We visited the market stalls inside on our way to the Christmas market.

We stopped and took a photo of this handsome building. One of the prettiest examples of how the city has been rebuilt after the WWII destruction. This one in elaborate style. Go out of your way to see it.

This is definitely my favourite building in the city, such beautiful details and so stunning when framed against a blue sky.

The Great Armoury is a stunning pastel pink building in the heart of the old town Gdansk. The building has a stunning facade with very intricate details of which are best admired on a sunny day. At the moment the building has a christmas market at its back of which is well worth the visit up until the 23rd December.

Beautiful exterior and inside the building are stalls that sell traditional polish handicrafts and handmade accessories. This is temporary and will last through now till 23rd December. Walk through the stalls and you will find another exit that leads you right into the main Christmas market in Gdańsk. You can find many more souvenirs, xmas decors, food, and some kids entertainment there. Extremely crowded but lovely festive ambience in the weekends. If you prefer less crowd then come during weekdays night. Was here both during weekday and weekend and both are equally enjoyable!

Gdańsk has many impressive buildings and the facade on the Grand Armoury is one of the best. On a sunny day, this is a stunning sight. The colours and details of the different features including the lions are very good. The armoury’s collection is worth a visit.
