Gdansk Market Hall occupies a nice building close to the city centre. Originally built in 1896, the building survived WW II with few damages, but was not valued during the 1950s and 1960s, until it was listed as a registered monument. It was then renovated and reopened in 2005, and it still holds several market stands over three floors. Ground floor and first floor are occupied almost exclusively by stands selling clothes, mainly for women. The underground floor has several food stands, mainly selling Polish specialties. Also, on the underground floor, some remains are visible, of the former Dominican abbey that occupied the area. Outside the Market Hall, and all around it, additional stands can be found, selling mainly fruit & vegetables.
