We found out about this place through trip advisor and decided to check it out one afternoon. We were late getting there so only had about an hour and a half to spend at the museum. The science museum is really interesting, interactive and generally well done! we only had time to visit one of the exhibits, the around the world exhibit, but that alone was extremely good! Would definitely recommend it, but make sure you leave yourself enough time! Excellent value for money.

This place was surprisingly good. Found it by chance - the name "Centrum Hewelianum" and an ugly picture is not really a good sell... Had NO expectation, expected something really boring, just a place-filler in the old barracks. But is was a surprisingly new and well developed interactive museum targeting kids.

We only found out about this place by reading about the experience of others so it just goes to show how the reviewing community on TA can work. Getting here by foot is quite easy from the main train station (our family of four travelled down from Gdynia each day). In the underpass walk in the opposite direction of the main town (i.e. towards the taxi HQ and bus station) and take the stairs to the right at the end. Walk past the above and you'll immediately come to a short no through-way road with garages on the left and a few houses on the right. Go to the end of this and then you'll see a staired pathway leading up the hill with the centre now signposted - takes about five minutes to get there with a 90 degree turn half-way up and not too difficult a climb. Make sure you bring your camera as once you've finished at the centre as there are some nice views of Gdansk from the top.

We only expected to spend a couple of hours here but spent so long in the puzzle room next to reception, we ended up coming back to finish it off the next day - must have spent at least six hours in total! In cost terms its buttons, we bought a family ticket as we had two teenagers and it was certainly worked out at little more than a few pounds per person each day. One had just finished her first year at university but they didn't worry about that :-)

There are four main areas in the centre, the Puzzle room, 'Around the World', 'Fun with History' and 'With energy'. Each had a very helpful member of staff to assist visitors in getting to grips with the many exhibits, several of which were interactive. We had no problems with the language with almost everything detailed in English.

Lots of hands-on fun and I was really impressed in their layout and presentation. Having also visited the much gilded Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw during our 2 weeks in Poland, this was right up there but without the hype and wait to get onto the next exhibit. One for example had a 3D model of the surrounding landscape that showed how various factors could affect the potential flooding of the Gdansk region. You could use counters to position dams, reservoirs and various other ameliorating devices while changing rainfall and other local conditions. Really good fun devastating the city - just joking!

Don't miss out on the tunnel walk-through to the history centre with several video interactive halls that allows you to fire cannons, dress as in the past and various other bits of fun to be had.

Excellent day out, well done Gdansk!

I know that it is in the middle of COV 19, but it is the second time I have travelled to this bloody museum, paid for the overpriced car park traipsed my kids up the 400 m hill to meet another kids only to be told that they have no tickets until 3 hours later. I wouldn't have minded if they saw our group of two adults one 8yr old and two 3 yr old and told us, but no, they take the money from my friend, then tell me I have to wait - 3 yr olds do not sit patiently for three hours, Three year olds cry when they see their best friend going inside to play! Half suspecting that we would not get in, I took the tram today so was spared the argument to get my money back for the car park... But I did not expect the moronic staff to sell tickets to half a group, and then refuse to sell them to the other half? I have had enough of the rude, zero customer service manner in which they informed me that we would have to wait... I know that customer service is much rarer in Poland, but you would think that the museum service could find some monkeys with half a brain to deal with families with young children. If they continue to treat their future audience with such contempt, they deserve to go under. Cant comment on how the virus has affected the once excellent exhibits, and frankly have no wish to do again, will spend the car park fee on a train to Gdynia and go to the much better Experiment in future.

Arrived at the Centrum Hewelianum expecting a fun afternoon. Got there at 2pm local time - was told by the member of staff at the ticket point, we only had 2 hours left until closing so me and my partner thought there would be lots to get through and we better get moving...

The exhibits just did not follow a pattern or flow from one topic to the next. We went from "around the world" to "time machine" to a puzzle area which are all in different buildings, this was not explained on arrival. We were followed around by "3 tour guides" in the first exhibit who bearly spoke to us but watched everything we looked at giving us little guidance and making us feel very uncomfortable and rushed.
Even though we do not speak Polish, we got the impression they were talking about us/laughing at us due to not knowing our way around...AGAIN this was not explained on arrival and it could only have been about us due to nobody else being in the place!
After our uncomfortable start, we at least thought we would enjoy ourselves having a go at the puzzles. Unfortunately these were already solved from previous visitors and as we were the only people in the place, we didn't understand why the puzzles hadn't been reset for any new visitors.
From our experience, we were let down and have since found out there are more exhibits we weren't told about at the time of visiting.
If the staff had been more helpful/approachable or there was more of a flow to the place or even more signage as to where to go to next we may have got the full experience of what the place has to offer but unfortunately this was not the case for us.
On a plus - there was a locker room in each building and we were given a token on arrival to use the lockers also the museum wasn't expensive to visit but this excursion just wasn't for us.

What a brilliant but odd place! They have clearly spent alot of money on some great exhibits, great for a rainy day and plenty of fun for a few hours! The weird part however was the staff! They have people stationed at all of the exhibits I assume to keep them maintained throughout the day and to help visitors, however they didn't even smile at anyone, let alone make conversation, which could be dismissed if it werent for the fact that they followed you around! The most uncomfortable part was the puzzle room - where instructions and help would have made the place so much more fun, the guy just followed us around in silence, putting things back to normal after we'd used them, and made us want to leave as soon as we could! It's such a shame as it really is a fantastic place and I would recommend for a day of fun, especially if you have kids. I have seen reviews where it says they think they were like this to English people but it was to all people!
A great thing is that at each exhibit (there are different buildings) there are locker rooms so you can put your bags and coats away safely and enjoy yourself. What I wish I'd know is that there were these in each building as we used the main lockers near reception and then walked around in the freezing cold without our jackets. Put some more training and work into the staff and then this really will be an amazing attraction. Please do go and take a look - my review is more feedback.

Went as a couple, we were afraid that it might be boring and childish. But it was very interesting. It was fun testing out the different "activities". The staff was very helpful! Highly recommend!

An amazing science museum, with several attractions and close to the town. My only complaint would be that not all of the exhibits had an English translation - but that is the fault of this English person not speaking Polish :) The guides were very helpful and the setting, a war bunker, has been stunningly used to make for a brilliant visit. The lack of coffee shop is disappointing, but there are toilets, vending machines and you are close to town - it was more that we wanted to stay and enjoy the place some more! Free with the Tourist Card, Centrum Hewelianum is a hidden gem that is well worth seeking out!

This exhibition is quite basic and does not show nor explain more than you can read in the children's encyclopedia. Besides the exhibition itself, on the geographical map, I was disappointed to see Crimea excluded from Ukraine. This is sad to me because I think that, the science center suppose to care about objective truth and facts.

Had a nice time in the museum. It is located on top of the hill in Gdansk, we walked from tve Old Town to here and it took maybe 25 minutes. The place is interesting, liked how it is "buried" underground. It was an old place for cannons and such. The shows were nice, especially the Energy one. This would also be a great place for a family with kids, lots of things to learn :) As adults, it took a few hours to see everything.
