Splendid church, with an external brick structure (like all city churches), bare interiors (it is also undergoing restoration), but which deserves to be visited for the sense of peace it transmits and for the splendid organ. If you find the door closed, don't be afraid to push and enter. In Gdansk I noticed that the places to visit (churches, museums, even the central post office in front of the Town Hall) even if open, have their doors closed.

A lovely church in the center of Gdańsk.
Some major artworks can be admired.
However, I find that the church is not well-managed and deserves a renovation. The stucco is damaged to some degree and needs attention.
If you ignore the crumbling stucco you can still marvel at the treasures of the church such as oil paintings, sculptures and the altar pieces.

This church is open but still undergoing some renovations. We visited on the Thursday before Good Friday so there were plenty of people queuing for confession. Inside is beautiful, in a baroque style. The altar is stunning. A great place to come for some quiet reflection.

Fantastic church, it is still being renovated and when finished will be spectacular. Well worth visiting, astronomical clock is a wonder.

Really beautiful church with an amazing view. But be prepared for walking a lot of stairs! Whole 409 stairs to be exact. But it is worth it, you can see over whole Gdansk from there ☺

There are two churches worth visiting. The basilica - because it is enormous and this church because it is the oldest one.
+ centuries ago each district of modern Gdańsk was a separate town,
+ the Old Town was created in the place were via mercato crossed with a road that take a pomeranian prince each time he travelled between his main castel and his summer castel. It was an important place so people started to settle there, to sell there products. People= trade=money=food,
+ it was an important place, in the centre so a wooden church was built here. Wooden church=fire=it was destroyed,
+a rock church was built but it was soon destroyed,
+another church was built, this time bigger one. This church we can visit nowadays. It wasn't destroyed during II WW. Why? There are two theories. 1) St Nikolas is important in Russia so Russian soldiers didn't want to destroy it 2) Russian soldiers were corrupted not to destroy this church and they were offered church wine.
+ gothic style inside so interesting grey walls instead of blue and golden with angels
+ at the right side of the altar - painting from 1420 at the wall (so old!!)
+ unusual rich, wooden main altar, it looks originally, not like main altars in many Polish churches, it was a little bit Russian? with all those small wooden figures
+ there is a grave of important teutonic knight inside,
+beautiful, decorated organs inside

This church had burnt 3 times and was bombed during the wwII. And instead of building it again as new they would use the original and build on top. Very interesting. Then take the little door on the right side of the entrance and you will be able to go up to the top of the tower. It is 10plz which is nothing. There you will see a clock museum - very good with all the mechanisms,and the longuest pendulum of the world! View from the top is very good as well.

I was quite disappointed having to pay to visit a church! Not to mention additional fees for going to the tower!
Be aware when you get the change for paying as the lady that charges for the entrance does not give the correct change.
On the positive side - church was nice and worth visiting.

This is not a complaint or a bad review - just a warning to other travelers.
As of early July 2019, the church is closed. According to a sign posted on the door, they discovered structural damage and it was no longer safe to allow tourists in. They are investigating how to fix the damage but the church is closed and inaccessible in the meantime. Too bad, it looked really nice!

One of the most lovely church I have seen in Europe. What makes it particular is that it is made with bricks. One has to see the old clock inside the church, very spectacular and striking on the hour.

No, the only obstacle is that is not very wise to go inside during a holy mass unless you came to pray.
