Very unique church/cathedral. Amazing huge organs, statues of angels move And play! On Saturdays organ concerts (20 min, between 10-11 a.m., can't remember the time), voluntary fee for church. Breathtaking.

Oliwa Cathedral was erected as a Cistercian church in the thirteenth century as a Gothic, three-nave basilica. It was built on the plan of a Latin cross, measuring 107 metres and is the longest church in Poland. Its beautiful interior conceals many art treasures: numerous altars, a Rococo pulpit, great stalls or Renaissance portraits of numerous benefactors of the Cistercian monastery. In the central part of the monumental presbytery you can find the main Baroque altar. Its “earthly sphere” consists of black columns arranged in a semicircle and “heavenly sphere” is a vision of heaven: stucco clouds and angel  heads.

This is a cathedral not to be missed. It is one of the most beatiful I have seen (and I have seen many) - the longest Carmelite church in the world - and it has a spectaular organ with regular daily organ recitals, and 1 hour concerts in July and August (we are returning to hear one at 8pm in the evening).
The church has a delightful interior with several marble altars, a catacomb of bishops and a side chapel of the Virgin Mary (no photos allowed). Definitely try to include it in your itinerary as well as 1.5 hours for Oliwski Park (the former Abbot's palace gardens).

We visited this Cathedral during an organised tour of Gdansk. It has an understated and individual quite modern looking front exterior, contrasting with quite an individual style of interior, with impressive exposed organ pipes. The building has very old origins but has been extensively renovated following damage in WW2. The inside needs to be seen before reaching a view based purely on the outside.

We visited this Church during a day tour to Sopot from Gdansk, as it's set somewhere in the middle between.
Church is pretty old dating back to 13c and claims to be the longest Carmelite Church. Main entrance is between two elegant tall brick bell towers with nice altar inside and terrific organ.

Sometimes during the summer the monks open the door to the monastery. Unfortunately there is no rule about the opening times. If you see the door to the right from the entrance to the cathedral open do not hesitate to enter. There is no charge, but it is fair to leave 5-10 zloty to the basket that stands at the entry. You will find a nice courtyard and several beautifully decorated rooms including the one with portraits of the abbots and another one when a peace between Poland and Sweden in 17th century was signed.

The organ presentation Nov-March is just once a day (Mon-Sat 12 o'clock, Sun 15). Later they become more frequent - daily almost every full hour between 10 and 17, Sundays only at 15, 16 and 17. There is a charge for the organised groups otherwise the nuns collect a voluntary donation. Usually the presentation lasts 20-30 minutes. It is worth spending every minute in the cathedral.
There is a toilet in a building next to the church (on the left hand side)

I have seen all the main cathedrals in Gdansk, and this one is still my favorite. I love the exterior of it, because it's different from all other cathedrals in the city. Also, this is one of the few landmarks in the city that wasn't destroyed during World War II, so this cathedral looks exactly the same as it did when it was last rebuilt in 1583.
The star attraction is the Organ Loft and Tomb of the Kos Family. I was lucky enough to arrive in time for the organ concert. The concert starts at noon, and lasts for 20 minutes. I only stayed for the first song, but it was quite something. The acoustics were good, and the organ decorations moved.
You're not supposed to take pictures or video tape during the concert and during mass, but I did anyways, and no one said anything.
This is even more interesting than the St. Mary's Cathedral. It's outside the city center, so it's a bit out of the way, but it's definitely worth it.
You can also check out the botanical garden and bishop's palace.

The only bad thing about the cathedral is getting there. When I was there in 2004, you could hop on a tram and be there in 10 minutes, but because of the recent construction, they changed the route. A 4 mile trip took me 50 minutes, and I had to switch trams in Wzesc. I'd recommend just taking a cab. It costs more, but it's a lot faster.

The cathedral was highly reccomended by our taxi driver. Just as a side note, We hired a taxi driver to go to Westerplatte and he ended up being our personal driver and guide for 4 hours, driving us all around Gdansk, for $210 zloty which is about $70!!!!, what a deal! The cathedral is "shake your head" type pf beautiful! Art work and sculptures are too amazing to put in words!

This is a unique church with one of the best organs in Europe. Try to hear a short concert. Explanations of the church are broadcast in many languages, including English.

Go there to hear organ music in its glory. It's a huge instrument with a beautiful sound, and the building to match it.
The free concerts are OK but if you love classical music, treat yourself to one of the evening performances - they are top class, and very affordable, too.
We were lucky enough to hear both the organ, and oratory music there, and human voice projects in the cathedral just as beautifully.
Easy parking, good public transportation, great garden nearby.
