Beautifully refurbished, classical style evoking "old good times"; a real gem in the very centre of an industrial town; worth visiting and enjoying.

One of the most incredible theatres I've visited !
The neo-baroque architecture is wonderful to see, as there are much details in the sculptures and the heavy chandeliers are lightening up the atmosphere.
The acoustic is just perfect for a smooth sound in operas. (You just have to find the right spectacle to go to verify that point !)
I warmly recommend this place if you're a fan of culture.

Went to Cinderella ballet. Gorgeous theater. People there very friendly even though we didn't speak Czech.

We enjoyed a wonderful performance of Swan Lake by the local Ostrava-based but internationally recruiting ballet in the Antonin Dvorak theatre.

I think the quality of the staff in this theatre is excellent and it´s worth to see the performances here. You can visit opera, as well as drama and ballet.

The Antonin Dvorak Theatre is main theatre in Ostrava and belongs to National theatre Moravian-Salesian. Very nice hiszorical building in centre of Ostrava. Many famous dramas, ballets and operas are played there.

There are very few theatres of this quality in the UK. It's one of the reasons I love eastern europe. If you have been to the Buxton Opera House, it is similar. Everything is gold leaf with paintings of cherubs on the ceiling, a huge chandelier in the centre and little crystal wall lights everywhere. In common with other Czech theatres, there are a lot of boxes, about 20, and then the auditorium, circle and gallery. Prices for the ballet are jaw-droppingly cheap by UK standards. I just booked 3 top seats in the circle for The Nutcracker at Christmas for £25 - that's IN TOTAL. And for this I will get a ballet danced by a company of over 30 dancers who are based at the theatre with rehearsal studios etc. This is the way in eastern europe. Towns of modest size have top quality government subsidised theatres that perform ballet, opera and musicals. This is no exception and has an orchestra of 40+ musicians with timpani, harp etc etc. During the day, be sure to wander around the back of the theatre too to find a little known outdoor minature village containing models of many european landmarks. It is the other side of the carpark!

Worth visiting mainly for the opera ballet performances. It is one of the most photographed attractions in the city center :)
