About
Just 212 steps down to enter the labyrinth’s winding passages The passageways in the Labyrinth under the Vegetable Market lead to unique and mysterious places, including medieval cellars hidden six to eight metres below ground. Visitors learn how food, wine, and beer were once stored and how this underground space used to be lit, and also see a collection of archaeological findings. The tour also visits an alchemist’s laboratory and recalls the doctors, pharmacists, and physicists who lived in Brno and made the city famous throughout Europe. An old wine cellar and a period tavern are reminders of the local tradition of winemaking. Replicas of a pillory and a cage of fools, both of which were located at the town marketplace in the 17th century, evoke the darker side of life a few centuries ago. The tour also introduces some of the punishments that awaited dishonest craftsmen, traders, and merchants.

- Alex Sth24 contributionsNice place.Very interesting. The tour lasted 45 minutes. Unfortunately, there is no tour in English. However, the guide was saying some stuff in English, quickly. I'd prefer to have a dedicated English tour. Besides that, it's worth the visit. If you have the Brno pass you get a 20% discount for the ticket.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 8, 2024

If you need an English tour, I suggest you (or someone at your hotel) call ahead. Our guide was easy to hear & understand, provided great & interesting information about the cellars & some funny jokes :).Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 27, 2024

He was knowledgeable and entertaining, and easily engages with all 30 odd of us. A must in Brno! For such a low price, especially for students, we were expecting a short tour and not much accommodation in regards to the language. However, since it was only us at that specific time, Mark (I hope I'm writing it right) was so kind as to do the whole hour tour in English!
Not only was the Labyrinth truly interesting, with all the different sections and pathways, but he explained so many details about the town in itself, and the legends surrounding it. And he made it entertaining (:

This tour is only worth it if you are Czech, because as a tourist you are handed a booklet which you have to read yourself while "being guided". We had a guide who spoke so fast in Czech that I'm thinking it might have been challenging even for the locals to absorb all of that information. It was hard to read the text because it was too dark and hard to focus when someone was talking all of the time. In essence, it felt like we were given the cliff's notes while everyone else got the full novel, and it was a shame because it was probably interesting. We essentially just felt like we weren't very welcome and ignored and we also had to pay the same as those getting a proper tour.

A very intersting visit beneath the cabbage market. Very clean and cool. A number of exhibits throughout the tunnels. We joined a guided tour but the whole commentary was in Czech. We were given sheets of notes in English to keep upto speed with whats going on. We enjoyed the visit but it only lasts around 40 minutes.

More extensive than we expected, and the labyrinth is on many levels (lowest 11 metres where there is some standing water to walk through) Our guide was entertaining and knowledgeable, and had no problem switching to English when necessary.
The printed guide is 13 pages long, and as others have mentioned impossible to read in reduced light, but the live guide is more than enough.
Worth 40 minutes of your time.

I fully recommend you visit if you get the time. It is a guided tour that’s very interesting and informative. It’s suited to all ages but so note there are plenty of steps so may not be too well suited to anyone that tires easily or struggles with stairs.

This is a chance to go under the cabbage market square and explore what used to be a specialised storage space for the market holders. The guide is really only there to take you down into the tunnels and guide you through. You’re actually given an audio guide for information about the different parts of the tunnels, how each section was used etc. At each station in the tunnels, the guide lets you know which number on the audio guide to use. There even used to be a tavern underground.
Apart from the guide being clearly bored by his job, I found the tour quite interesting simply because I’d never come across such a use. If you’ve never been down tunnels and unused to the dark, then I think you’re in for a double treat.
