Although very cheap as a traveller (we worked out it was significantly more expensive on an average Czech wage) the zoo is lacking animal welfare standards. I see people mentioning in reviews back in 2016 that the polar bear habitat was not suitable. Unfortunately this still seems to be the case. The line polar bear we saw was kept in what seemed to be a holding pen; completely bare with no enrichment. The bear was pacing backwards and forwards in front of the gate out of said pen. The enrichment area next to this pen seemed unkempt, small and in need of a very good deep clean. It did not look like it had been used for a long time. That poor bear was probably going out of its mind. I was also surprised to see that the zoo allowed people to take their pet dogs in. We also witnessed whilst there disturbing interactions between caged big cats and dogs. The cats out of boredom seemingly intimidating, taunting and lunging at the dogs and the dogs reacting scared and aggressive. Despite this there were areas of the zoo which were better and it wasn't an overall terrible experience but they definitely have a lot of work to do.

Really nice Zoo, recently refurbished, creative zones, up on the hill , loads of animals to see. I am not really fan of Zoo's, but we had a great time with my friends and mostly girl(5)- daughter of my friend. It has an interactive games for kids too.

The good: You can get into the kangaroo cage. No fence between the camels and the public. Good spacing for the animals.
The bad:No English signs only Czech language.
The ugly: some animal spaces are not well kept as the one of the king of the jungle

Good zoo which you can spend a day at - but be prepared to walk up lots of hills. Our daughter enjoyed the visit and the zoo seems well maintained. Few animals were unavailable during our visit in early March. Move of the cafes/shops were open when we visited.

My husband and I absolutely love come to the Brno zoo.
Lovely walks around the park, plenty food huts, vending machine for coffees and beverage, plenty restrooms.
It’s quite uphill but worth a visit!

Absolutely not worth to visit.
Especially for older people and kids, the territory basically in the forest, where you have to climb up. Territory is not clean enough and not tidy. Many cages are empty. Didn't even go to the end, didn't see anything except bear and birds.

The Zoo was only £3.50, had a nice cafe, and laods of animals! Its quite big. DOWNSIDE. As with many many zoos, animals were not very well looked after, most likely because the zoo was really empty and so the costs must be a huge struggle to afford. Not ALL of them, but some of them. Guinea pigs had ringworm (I worked in a petshop and know the signs easily). This is painful and REALLY itchy for them, and it can spread to humans on contact. This should have been picked up on, I did within seconds. Even worse, the Polar bear was in a enclosure FAR too small for such an intelligent animal, with litelrally no stimulation such as toys, waterfalls etc. The water was filthy, the polar bear was really dirty, and he had zoochosis. This is where the animal shows repetative behaviour through boredom origionally and literally it loses its mind. It is extremely sad, and it is due to the zoo keeping him this way. The worst thing is this is his enlarged cage, his old cage was tiny! And another polar bear is kept in another area with no pool, just blank gray walls, a small room. It just sat there staring out of the bars. If you see the polar bear he will be swimming to the edge of his little pool, and flipping into it on his back. Over, and over, and over, and over. All day. See youtube and he has been doing it over and over for 6 years at least if you see the videos of him :(. They just need some balls and tires to play with at least, some tubes to go through and a nicer pool, and paint so the place is colourful!! At the very least... The primates are also in terribly small, unstimulating environments. They have sores on their behinds all over, they look very painful, from sitting on only rocks all day. A meerkat had a terrible condition, bloated stomach and very bad teeth rot so his gums were swollen painfully large- he couldnt really walk. A bird had pecked all its feathers off from stress. Anyway that aside, there are hundreds or animals that seem prefectly healthy, including giraffes, zebras, a leopard, deer, reptiles, birds, farm animals etc. If you do not go they have less money for helping these animals, so please go but mention the polar bear, cows and horses tethered in a shed all day long (no time out what so ever) and primates NEEDING better conditions, an email would have more of an effect. Lovely petting zoo by the way minus the guinea pigs! Pleanty of climbing areas, play areas everywhere, even chalk boards for kids and the cafe is really pretty. Theres an animal in there with severe sneezing problems, a simple case of baytril medication (antibiotic) would fix that :/..

The location of this ZOO is really pretty - it’s in the woods on a hill. So count ahead that you will have to walk several kilometres and you won’t see many animals. The park for children is really nice and fun. You have to see the polar bears, the best animals in Brno!

Over past few years this ZOO has changed a lot. When I was first time here I was bit disappointed. Yes it look nice however nothing really compelling. But this has drastically changed. Just by adding one more area called Kalahari and polishing older stuff this is probably one of the best ZOOs I have been so far (in Czech Republic).
Pros:
- it is quite huge, you can spend several hours here and still miss something (but this ZOO is worth visiting many times)
- constant improvement - the ZOO has big plans for future and they are making them to happen (Kalahari is real proof
- You can visit this ZOO twice/three times or even more but you will never get bored (yes I know that saying it after visiting this ZOO only once in two or three years might not sound good but try it for yourself)
- Kalahari
- kangsaroos
Cons
- the ZOO is built on hill and if you take the standard tour you will start going UP
- if you want to see everything you will need at least to go through the ZOO twive
- ZOO has some dead ends (might change in future)
- ZOO has only one entry and exit point (will change in future)
