The area

Neighborhood: Malá Strana (Little Quarter)
Malá Strana is one of the oldest and the most beautiful neighborhoods in the city. Nestled underneath Prague Castle it was once a part of the Kings route taken by future kings on their way to coronation - originating in the Old Town, crossing Charles Bridge and leading to Saint Vitus Cathedral. Cobblestone streets are lined with picturesque medieval houses, remarkable palaces, churches, kitsch shops and restaurants. Do not hesitate to turn a corner into any narrow street. You will suddenly find yourself in a calm and charming neighborhood full of hidden gardens, parks with peacocks, fruit trees and ponds. As the neighborhood is a home to Czech Parliament and many ministries, you can also run into well-dressed officials. If you are thirsty or hungry, it is the right place to be. Restaurants offer delicious traditional food and of course, the best Czech beers.

This is literally an old water mill that can be seen from the small Lover's Bridge or a bit further away on the artificial canal that separates Malá Strana from Kampa Island. It's a working water mill and rotates as the water pushes the wheel. Not much to see to be honest, maybe if there was a museum to see the mill.

This is a large beautiful old wooden wheel which turns in the water. It has a strange looking water sprite statue on the edge of the wooden platform. Even though the wheel is quite big it can be easily missed depending on where you are walking. Quite easy to find and see if you are walking by the John Lennon wall and pub. Looks quite ordinary during the day and there isn't really anything else to look at where it is situated but at night if you are on the bridge looking at it it is beautifully lit up and casts the most beautiful shadows on the wall of the building next to it.

Can be seen towards the end of the Charles Bridge if you are going towards Lennon Wall and can be easily missed as well.

On the way from John Lennon wall to Karluv most. Nice to see, there is nice cafe restaurant next to it with 2 funny tables hanging over the river like kind of terrace, looks quiet romantic place.

This is not far from the Charles Bridge at the lesser town end and the John Lennon wall and is an old working water mill. Of interest is the statue near it which guards the mill which represents a water sprite, a being from Czech fairy tales.

This water mill still works and is guarded by a grumpy gnome, it's strange and unexpected but very picturesque.

While viewing this water wheel my husband and I noticed a very pretty restaurant beside the wheel and canal. We ended up having a delicious lunch there where we sat on a little balcony overlooking the water wheel and sprite. This is a great spot for lunch or dinner and is perfect for photos. The staff is very friendly and held a table for us while my husband went to the ATM as they did not accept credit cards. We found that to be true of many of the smaller establishments. Luckily there was an ATM near the Lennon Wall which was just around the corner. A very romantic place to dine!

The mill is still operational but of more interest is the statue of a water sprite that guards the mill. The statue is a representation of a supernatural being from Czech fairytales. It is quite whimsical in nature which adds to its interest as well as its placement. It is situated between the Charles Bridge (lesser town end) and John Lennon wall.

Right up there with the Manneken Pis as worst tourist attractions in Europe. It's a water wheel. Get over it! Blah blah blah.

The only remaining wooden water mill in Prague is this amazing water wheel along the Devil's Canyon, its a reminder of how the people of the city harnessed the power of water to power the mills that once proliferated the Vltava River and tributaries, the water wheel looks superb especially when viewed at night and from Charles Bridge, well worth checking out if you're planning a holiday to Prague.
