Top ways to experience Franciscan Garden

The area

Address
Neighborhood: Nove Mesto (New Town)
Nearly 700 hundred meters long, Wenceslas Square represents the most frequent and buzzing crossroads of the city. The National Museum in the upper part of the square watches over your spending spree in countless shops and retail stores lining the entire square, which ends at Na Příkopě, the most famous shopping street. When tired or broke, you can explore the city's underpasses, which can take you to the Old Town or to the courtyards of art nouveau houses with secret gems of greenery, white benches and rose bushes that provide unexpected peace in the midst of the city. Be sure to pay a visit to the traditional cafés, classic Czech pubs, cinemas and theaters. National Theater near the river has a lot to offer to foreigners. Go to the river bank and enjoy live music and drinks while watching a sunset behind Prague Castle.

This beautiful garden is maybe less known - but definitely worth a few minutes of your time when you are in the area.
The Franciscan Monastery - with the church of Our Lady of the Snows - was built in the 14th century and beside it - this garden is a relatively small but tranquil oasis in the noise of the 21st century city of Prague.
When we were there there were a few cm of snow , fallen the evening before , and the garden was a bit less spectacular than in the summer for instance when the fountain is also flowing.
Still even in winter it is definitely worth a few minutes and a stop for a few pictures.

This is a lovely spot and also a shortcut and a way to get to Narodni Trida or all the way across the bridges to Mala Strana from the Wenceslav Square. It surely is fast and convenient, but I bet you will be charmed and tempted to hang around and linger longer that you perhaps intended, as the garden will surprise you with the manicured beds filled with roses and many other blooms, well into the fall. The benches are taken by young couples on a date or moms with strollers, or people just taking a break. The playground to the side is modern and filled with kids, that could not take a minute longer of sightseeing with their parents. Many generations of families spent time here, mine included, as it dates back centuries. The access is easy, from the bottom from Jungmanovo namesti or from the top from Wenceslav Square thru the Passage Alfa.
Just another one of my favorite places. But who is counting.
I guarantee you will be charmed...

I always make it a point to walk through this garden, such a beautiful shortcut from the Wenceslas square to the Jungmanovo Square.

Well kept garden, gorgeous in every season. Surprisingly it never seems crowded and we are very happy about that. When the roses are in bloom climbing on the trellises, it is the best time to visit .
I took a couple of pictures of the Divozenky sculpture. I never noticed it before, maybe it is a new addition.
The garden did not change much since I was a kid. But today's children definitely have a nicer playground ....
If you find this garden hidden in the plain site take a little time to enjoy it...

If this is your first time in Prague and you find yourselves on Vaclavske namesti as many tourists do, you can escape the madness of the tourists crowds and find your way here.

It is still less crowded, that most other places nearby and it makes one wonder how it stays so peaceful.
It is a small park with benches - a garden that is changing with the seasons. I love it when the abundant climbing roses are in bloom, and it is equally charming under the cover of snow. If you have small children in tow, they will appreciate the well kept playground.

Take time to relax or just pass through, either way I am sure you'll enjoy it.
It has not change much over the years and I am grateful for that.
And it is still free.

Frantiskanska Zahrada is one of my favorite places in Prague ...

Discovered this lovely garden when the staff at our hotel on Jungmannovo Square gave us short-cut directions to Wenceslas Square.
Late November, obviously, is not the best time to visit, but were still able to appreciate the tranquility in the centre of a large city.
Well trimmed hedges, benches along the path, and an amazing view of the side of the majestic Church of Our Lady of the Snows.
If we had been able to visit in warmer weather and when the climbing roses were in bloom on the arbours, this rating definitely would have been higher.

How wonderful to find these sanctuaries beyond the tourist scrums. And one with such internal views. The way in takes you past the cubist lamp post and once in there are interesting views not only of the garden but of the buildings beyond. A lovely place and do look out for the coffee shop that borders it with its tables tranquilly on the edge of the garden.

Nice little hidden garden. Very old garden with large climbing rose bushes, grape vines and fruit trees. Lovely play ground for children and there were many families there enjoying the park. On one end of the garden there are a very impressive gates and further in there are some sculptures. I was not keen on the sculptures.

This garden is the former cloister of the associated church. The space is bustling with children and people out for a stroll. There is a cafe, and the path connects to a shopping arcade where you can purchase fabulous ice cream. Enjoy this shortcut.

I was in Prague on a busy Sunday afternoon and this garden was just a little oasis. I grabbed some Chlebicky from around the corner and then came here to sit under the rose arches and amongst the apple trees to enjoy my lunch. There are a few art sculptures to look at too and some pretty flowers, and also a little garden cafe tucked away in the corner. A really nice place to sit and relax and escape the crowds for a little while.

I was looking for a specific sculpture (“Three witches” or “Three spring nymphs” or originally “Divoženky” by Josef Klimeš). Instead I discovered a quiet small park full of greens and roses. In addition to my “Divoženky” I found a fountain with a boy and intriguing modern sculpture “Great Missionary” as a part of Sculpture Line 2017.
