This was the first thing I planned after booking our flights and hotel to Prague. Honestly, my boyfriend and I were over the moon excited for this dinner event. No, not because we thought it would be the best dinner we ever had, or the best entertainment we ever witnessed. The bar was set low on the expectation scale - all we planned on was laughing, dining in a unique venue, enjoying some mediocre food, and soaking up some of the local Prague arts and culture.
Okay, overall I would say that this was a success in a way. We definitely laughed. A lot. Let's go over the description as advertised and the strange reality:
1. Plan on waiting in line to get into the venue for about an hour; we were towards the front of the line and it still took that long, so i felt bad for all the people behind us.
2. "Enjoy a taste of medieval romance with a 3-hour dining experience in Prague"
For all the romance that Prague boasts, this is the least romantic place I've ever been. And we've made a lot of wrong turns down a lot of dark alleys. Don't plan on a "romantic evening" the seating arrangement isn't as pictured in the photo. Tables are not set for two - they are long booths that seat 8-10 people. Not a bad thing if you enjoy meeting new people (which we typically do), but definitely not romantic. And definitely sucks if you get stuck with a table of anti-social folks who have no interest in being around other human beings. Though to their credit, not their fault, this was not what they signed up for.
3. "Sit down to five generous courses of medieval food"
The only decent part of the five-course meal is the actual entree itself. It's fine, that's what we expected - just don't expect any sort of epic "feast". one of the courses was just some hard rye bread (???). That said, it's all you can drink...so there's that.
4. "jugglers take the stage alongside belly dancers, swordsmen, and an old fortuneteller with magical powers."
I think overall this was the most hilarious and egregious piece of the marketing. We expected a pretty broad spectrum of entertainment as listed. Instead there were just 5-6 angry dancers that had to work on their night off from the strip club. They did not seem to enjoy the fact that they were there. or that we were there. To their credit, though, they were the only entertainment. The whole night. Oh, except for some guys that ran out and did a pirate fight for 20-seconds or so. This left the crowd more confused and concerned for their safety. It was the first and only time I have been grateful for the return of the strippers.
Overall, it's about who your with an maintaining a sense of humor. If you set the bar low and just want some corny fun, do it. We wouldn't do it again, but we were glad we went and still laugh about it.
