Address
Neighborhood: Josefov
Josefov houses Prague’s Jewish community. This small neighborhood centered around Široká street is completely surrounded by Staré Město (Old Town). As the former Jewish Ghetto, today all that remains are a few synagogues and the oldest surviving Jewish cemetery in Europe. The narrow streets were once small enough that a person could touch the houses on both sides. You can still feel the dignity and history this neighborhood carries in its legacy as Franz Kafka’s birthplace. Nearby streets are full of kosher restaurants, museums and antique bookstores.

As we were walking up to the Spanish Synagogue, I noticed this statue and it stuck out as a strange yet thought provoking.
I didn't know who it was of, but I took a photo it and did some research and found out it was of Franz Kafka. As I didn't really know who he had read his work, I discovered that this was supposed to symbolize "Struggle". Not 100% sure of that.
I just liked it as I thought it was a unique piece of art.

It is big and very kafkask. You can read all kinds of things in to the statue and I like that. The area with all the synsgoges is allready interesting and the suroundings adds an extra layer to a statue allready filled with layers. It makes you reflect and I think that is very much in Kafkas spirit.

This monument to Franz Kafka depicts the man riding on the shoulders of a faceless and almost formless ethereal individual. The scene is a reference to the second chapter of "Description of a Struggle", where the protagonist of the story leaps onto the shoulders of his acquaintance and begins riding his like a horse. Utterly surreal and that's probably what makes this sculpture so fun. The sculpture is a little off the main tourist circuit in Prague in the Old Jewish district, but it's worth a look if you have time.

I think this statue perfectly reflects the essence of Franz Kafka. An interesting example of modern art that perfectly fits modern Prague. One of the should-see sculptures.

You can pass by without notice it. We knew about it and came to see it, as all the Kafka monuments. Like all his creations, this sculpture is also unusual.

Really strange -
like all things Kafka. If you like Kafka you are in the right place. Prague seems to love Kafka.
Personally I don't get the fascination, but there was a line, tourists taking selfies with the statue...Hmmm, to each his own...

It is definitely worth taking a detour in the Jewish area of Prague to see this statue, or just plan on visiting the beautiful Spanish synagogue, as this statue is right next to it.

This is a statue and nothing more. It is a work of art, and should be viewed as such. It is in the Jewish section of Prague and we ran into it by chance. We took a picture and or our way we went. This is close to the old Jewish cemetery.

Statue of Franz Kafka by Jaroslav Rona is one of the most unique statues in Prague ,when I first viewed it many years ago I hated it ,couldn't understand it but as time views by I have come to love it ,it grew on me ,the sculptor has perfectly captured the world of Franz Kafka ,if anything besides a great piece of street art it's a wonderful selfie opportunity ,makes for some great photographic opportunities ,it's easy to locate along Vezenska and is well worth checking out if you're in the area.

Prague is the capital of unique public art statues and this is another. It represents Kafka and his book "Description of a Struggle" with him riding on top of any empty suit. Its unusual nature, the fact its Kafka and its location in the Jewish Quarter next to the Spanish Synagogue makes this something you'll see and take a picture.
