Neighborhood: Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighborhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.

Someone told us that the cat is the mascot of Prague. Whether this is true or not, I can not say for sure. But, we are cat lovers so we were thrilled to find the Czech made Smaltum stores. I have to admit that there are other animals represented too like the giraffe, dog, elephant, etc but we were drawn immediately to the cat items. We bought a sign for the bathroom door- a cat relaxing in a bath tub and two cat mugs which we will use for soup. If I had more room in my suitcase, I would have bought more. I loved the creamer and sugarer, the soap dishes, and the coffee pots. But, alas there is a finite amount of money to spend and space to fill. I did notice online that they also have pots and pans. I did not see those in the store. It seems though there should be a special Czech treasure for nearly everyone.

We had a very pleasant evening in the Smaltum Workshop. We created our own cups and bowls with enamel technique. The guide and owner of the workshop helped the creative work step by step, so the whole family (parents & 10 year old kid) could enjoy the program. We spent 2 hours in the workshop with fully engaged creative and artistic work and fun :)

Love to buy the colorful and cute enamel products in this shop. Find the original Smaltum shops around Old Town Squre in Prague. They do have better price than the same products that are sold in another souvenirs shops in this area. I found two Smaltum shops in Old Town Sq. One of them is next to the Sex Machines Museum.

I have been to Prague many times and purchased my first piece in 2005 and have added every time I go back. Colours are still vibrant on my first piece. If something does stick just soak and wipe down. I have cookware, mugs and a coffee pot. They make cooking just a little bit happier to do.

Went with my Czech cousins and 5 year old great nephew during my visit.
The place was well lit, organized, had access to restrooms, and the front shop had many gifts options.
Instructions were provided in at least Czech and English with examples to illustrate what not to do.
I was very happy with the result of my very inartistic efforts, and unlike so many things these days, the memories from this excursion will mean more.
If you are artsy schedule an appointment, allow at least an hour (I would have spent more time on my project if I was not with my great nephew who was done in about 35 minutes) some of the work being done by others nearby was simply amazing.
