I had read through reviews of Prague prior to our visit, to enable us to gain some knowledge of what and where to go. The choice was immense. I sifted through the food and drink elements and found the 'Prague Food Tour'. A company that were able to give us first hand knowledge of Czech life, its history, culinary delights and of course alcoholic beverages!!!
Further reading and a short email to Leona, confirmed our booking. Details of exactly what was included and how payment was to be made reassured us of a one time experience that we were both looking forward to, especially as we were only in Prague for a few days.
We were met at the agreed time and place, together with another English couple and four students from Chicago USA. The tour commenced with our first stop at 'Jan Paukert' a renowned place full of history. A selection light starters had us salivating as to what to expect as the evening went on. I will not go into details, but please check the place out on the internet.
Next was Bonvivants Cocktail and Tapas bar, an incredible place where we were to sample the original 'Absinthe' and more cocktails followed! All the time Leona and George kept us enthralled with history and life in Prague.
Next was the 'Lokal', the longest restaurant in Prague where we had beer of differing strengths and styles and of course traditional Czech food. Our tour weaved its way through back streets and alleyways that I would never have known existed, let alone the history as well.
Not quite the finale, but to sit down for a prearranged meal at the 'Cafe' Imperial' really set the scene, the service, oppulance, surroundings and meal were beyond comprehension.
Last but not least we arrived at the 'Vinograf' wine bar, where as one would expect we sampled Czech wines. Its surprising that I can still remember where we went on our tour, as they say the camera never lies. Our hosts Leona and George were impeccable and I can only say that our memories of Prague will be embedded with their knowledge and an insight into Prague behind the scenes. We will certainly recommend the Prague Food Tour to anyone considering visiting Prague.
