I was surprised by how interesting this was. While we all understand that nobility marries nobility to create and consolidate wealth, to see/hear it about a specific lineage was interesting. The art was great. How many families have had their portraits painted by Velasquez? The 6th Prince was a serious patron of Beethoven and financed premieres of works such as... More

I was lucky to hear Prince William Lobkowicz speak at a private event about the epic adventure of having centuries of family treasures confiscated and returned twice; first by the Nazis and then the Communists. The dedication and perseverance of his family to make these treasures available to the public is remarkable. The prince and other family members speak on... More

Was an optional side trip on a Viking Cruise. Included meal ( not good) and concert (not great). Paintings more of a family history than just plain history

We dropped in here on a whim, and partly to avoid the throngs of tourists milling around St Vitus' Cathedral and Golden Lane. As it isn't included on tour group itineraries there was no-one here. It is an interesting gallery, and the story of the Lobkowicz family's loss of their properties and their subsequent restoral post-1989 is fascinating. The views... More

The Lobkowicz Palace was fascinating. So much to see and absorb; we could easily have taken twice as long in touring the rooms if time would have allowed. The included private concert was also a "not-to-be-missed" experience.

Interesting palace. Just a 10 minute walk below the Prague Place. Worth the admission price to see the family's artwork. Mozart & Beethoven's actual manuscripts are worth the visit. A classical concert in a 16th c. Room was priceless.

Visited this museum during a recent visit to Prague. It was very interesting and the audio guide was narrated by the present prince and members of his family which brings and appealing personal perspective to it. They must have been amazed when, after the downfall of Communism, they had their properties and possessions, which had been appropriated by the Nazis... More

We spent several hours in this museum, during which time we used audio tapes. We also attended the 1 PM concert, which was excellent.

Smack dab in the middle of The Prague Castle is the privately owned Lobkowicz Palace. It houses lovely works of art and the audio guide is narrated by one of the Lobkiwicz family members which is really special.

This museum went from good to great with the amazing audio guide included in the price of your admission ticket. Very thorough history and details provided for any piece in the collection. Beautiful views of Prague as well, definitely worth your time!

Staying in Hradcany & Letna

Neighborhood Profile
Hradcany & Letna
Your experience in Prague will never be complete if you do not see it from the top. Hillsides, stretched from the west to the north, provide spectacular views of greenish copper cupolas, narrow cobblestone streets, bridges connecting both river banks and green gardens from red-roof tops of centuries-old houses. Prague pulls you into its 1300 year old history. Walking up the hill or stairs to Prague Castle, the historical seat of Czech rulers and the majestic Saint Vitus Cathedral can leave you speechless (and out of breath). Luckily, plenty of terrace cafés overlooking gardens and beautiful parks are available to provide rest and a place to catch your breath again.
