Neighborhood: Malá Strana (Little Quarter)
Malá Strana is one of the oldest and the most beautiful neighborhoods in the city. Nestled underneath Prague Castle it was once a part of the Kings route taken by future kings on their way to coronation - originating in the Old Town, crossing Charles Bridge and leading to Saint Vitus Cathedral. Cobblestone streets are lined with picturesque medieval houses, remarkable palaces, churches, kitsch shops and restaurants. Do not hesitate to turn a corner into any narrow street. You will suddenly find yourself in a calm and charming neighborhood full of hidden gardens, parks with peacocks, fruit trees and ponds. As the neighborhood is a home to Czech Parliament and many ministries, you can also run into well-dressed officials. If you are thirsty or hungry, it is the right place to be. Restaurants offer delicious traditional food and of course, the best Czech beers.

- TravelingSoccerLoonSaint Paul, Minnesota5,971 contributionsNice Memorial to Lennon but Now Quite Touristy and Not the Moving Experience ExpectedAs a huge Beatles and John Lennon fan, I made the point of stopping here as we were walking through Mala Strana. It is a nice memorial to Lennon and the wall has historical significance as it was created spontaneously following his senseless murder and became a symbol of freedom of expression as the then communist government would repeatedly attempt to paint over the wall only for it to be reappear overnight. It is still interesting street art and till trys to send a message, but it has lost some of its rebellious spirit in these current times. However, it is still a favorite spot for tourists to visit and to add their own graffiti. It was quite busy when we stopped by which made it feel touristy and not the "spiritual" experience I was hoping for. It is worth a look if nearby but not worth wandering far from your plans for the day.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 10, 2023
- product-of-canadaToronto, Canada2,492 contributionsNot incredibly interestingMessage of peace resonates, but I cannot say this is an exceptional tourist attraction to visit. We even went early in the morning, when no one else was around, and it was underwhelming. Perhaps if I was on a walking tour of the site that gave some insights, I would feel differently.Visited August 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 3, 2023
- Johnny TrekkieSan Diego, California11,346 contributionsGroovy!Groovy wall of street art dedicated to John Lennon. It was interesting, but not a big "wow", unless you're a die hard Beatles fan. Its not far from the western end of the Charles Bridge and easy to find with Google Maps or following any one of the large tour groups. Lots of people trying to take pictures of course, so be patient!Visited September 2023Traveled soloWritten November 21, 2023
- TommoMelbourne, Australia55,993 contributionsPreservation of the memory of John LennonWe visited he John Lennon Wall during our walking tour. This is a colourful wall full of street art, is considered a symbol of peace, love, and freedom. It is filled with John Lennon–inspired graffiti, lyrics from Beatles' songs, and designs relating to local and global causes. It seems to be a real tourist attraction as it was busy with tourists. This wall is an open-air gallery to preserve the memory of John Lennon.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 9, 2024
- TerezaCzech Republic98 contributionsA must to for infouencer-wannabes?Five minutes away from the main tourist route is located the john lennon wall (Lennonova zeď). As a Czech I've gotta say - I've been in Prague x times and this was the first time I've visited it. It's a bit crowded and I don't think a visit here is necessary, unless you want take some cool photos.Visited February 2024Traveled with friendsWritten February 11, 2024
- Bertie1224Northamptonshire, United Kingdom1,440 contributionsUnderwhelmingA colourful wall but only the words on it tell you it is the John Lennon wall. Stickers aplenty obscure the face bar a tiny portion. There is plenty of graffiti of bright colours but its namesake is all but hidden. It’s worth a slight detour off the Charles bridge on your way to the castle but not a planned hike just to see it. The message is perhaps lost?Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 8, 2024
- Sasha Marie2,021 contributionsArtistic wallIf passing the time and seeing the sights then it is worth the walk over the bridge from Old Town to see this wall. Some of the art work is really beautiful, though as expected it is busy most of the time with various tourists wanting a photo with it. Nothing much else here other than a few cute cafes, but it is free and great for the ‘gram.Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten June 2, 2024
- AK8397Ontario, Canada1,018 contributionsImagine what this could have beenWe wanted to see this wall, but had a bit of trouble finding it in the maze of small streets. We had to ask two different people for directions. The place wasn't clear on any map we had. Once there, it was a bit of a let down. It's just a large wall covered with graffiti and stickers. Creating such a wall was a good idea, to promote peace and love. But over time, it seems to have been overtaken by advertising stickers, tourist signatures and random graffiti.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 12, 2024
- Prague Filmsets27 contributions„War is over! If you want it“ - John Lennon Wall of Freedom in PragueThe "Lennon Wall" was created here as a spontaneous reaction to the killing of John Lennon in New York, as a place of remembrance. People started writing messages and bringing flowers. But unfortunately, as in any totalitarian regime, the communists saw this as an undesirable expression of freedom and the wall was painted over several times, first in green, later always in white. However, the messages and graffiti were always restored, thanks to the understanding of the Knights of Malta, who own the wall as part of the building. Did you know that Yoko Ono also wrote on the wall? You can find out when and what she wrote here, plus lots of other interesting information about the interesting films that have been made around the wall on the tours I organise.Visited April 2024Traveled soloWritten June 12, 2024

Walked by hundreds of times. I probably like the little, tree shaded, Velkoprevorske square more, than the wall.
It's been painted over many times, I just have never witnessed anyone going at it. People hang around and take pictures, sometimes they play Beetles songs.
My husband and I were on our way to dinner in Cafe Paris , just steps away ...

Tourist trap, staff extremely unwelcoming, drinks are a lot more expensive than any other surrounding bars and restaurants. Received incorrect beer and Coca-Cola was flat and warm. Recommend to go elsewhere.

This wall is open to artists to ever change and ever evolve. If you visit every few months, it will never look alike. It's an endless tribute to the freedom movement and hopefully will remain that way. It's very popular, so get there during a weekday, winter, or early morning.

We've just come back from a few days in Prague for my 30th Birthday and on the first day we wanted to take a walk to see the Lennon Wall. It's not too far from the other end of the Charles Bridge and isn't too far out of our way... But, I would recommend using Google Maps as the paper one doesn't show it and unless you know how to get to it its hard.
Worth a visit. It's really cool to see everyone's expression of freedom of speech. Whilst we were there it had 100s of poems to stand with Ukraine.

All you need is ... 5 mins to take in all the writing on the wall, and have selfie / picture next to the Lennon graffiti as part of your walk around Prague. And just to fleece the tourists is a John Lennon themed pub around the corner.

If you are a Beatles fan this is a must see. A nice photo opportunity. It was constantly busy with tours visiting here. It is constantly changing, so take your photos, and if you revisit again in years to come, it will have changed with new graffiti etc..

The wall is very close to the Charles Bridge entrance so it is worth a visit when in old town. The first painting on the wall of John Lennon was done shortly after his death. There are now paintings by more than 30 artists from five countries. It has become a symbol of world peace and freedom. Anyone can write their opinions on the wall. We saw several messages supporting the Ukrainian people. It is difficult to get a photo because so many people are taking selfies

A public art display in honor of John Lennon, and the Beatles. Why not go see this evolving work of art by artist and ordinary folks?
This wall is open to the public at all times and is free for the viewing. It is also fun just to watch folks at the wall or engage in a conversation.
The power and influence of the Beatles and John Lennon are evident. We loved and love the music.

Went there with Family and friends during the end of our days sightseeing and was on the way back to the hotel anyway. Personally I was a bit disappointed with it and certainly wouldn't recommend you making a point to visit. Family seemed to think more of it but I guess if you are a bit of a history fan then the 'freedom wall' might be on your radar. Tenuous link to anything John Lennon so shouldn't think of it as anything to do with him really.

Taking a group of 20 students from Melbourne Australia to visit Prague on Dec 2nd 2019 and planning on visiting the Lennon Wall. I was aware that it was going through renovations. Has it been reopened? Is it worth the visit?
Written October 28, 2019
Dear Dora,
yes, the Lennon Wall was under reconstruction - the place had needed a change as a result of vandalism on it and its surroundings. Nevertheless, on the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution in November, it reopened as an open-air gallery reminding its former values of love and freedom on November 7. So, you can come and see how it looks after the renovation - and let us know what you think!
Enjoy.

Where is it possible to purchase some paint, to be able to add something to the wall?
Written January 7, 2018
Just bring a sharpie. Not much room for more big art work
Written August 15, 2020
Can we spray paint on the wall
Written July 16, 2017
No, you cant spray. The wall has been reconstructed recently. You can only use pencil or clay in white “message” places. Spraying is punishable offence now.

Go down the steps from the Charles bridge to Kampa Island, walk through the small square and take the second street on your right. Or go all the way until you see Hotel Kampa Garden on your right, continue going right past the Hotel Kampa Garden (you will kind of be walking in a circle), but just a few steps from the Hotel Kampa Garden you will see the John Lennon Pub on your right. Look right across the street and there is another great little restuarant on the corner and there is a water wheel. Take the bridge over the the little river (it's the bridge that is filled with locks), just on the other side of the bridge you will see the wall.
