What can go wrong on a brewery tour, I hear you say. Well, in the case of Staroprahen, it is an experience like no other that I have experienced. To start with, you have to wait outside, on a side street, and are let in at the appointed time. The cost is 120Krs per person, make up your own mind on value! The tour starts with a 10 minute film on the history of the Brewery, the commentary was in a sort of English, but the accompanying music was un-necessarily loud, so it was not always easy to understand.
Next you get a tour of the 'museum', and the brewing process is explained, all the various malts are tasted, and the various different brews are detailed, together with details of how things have changed in recent years. Then, you just look at a few huge vats, and then it is proudly explained that the Master Brewer is in fact just two guys pushing buttons on a computer, and that the beer just goes from these vats into the huge space-age yellow maturity tanks.
The brewery is just part of the massive In-Bev empire, and it is clear that mass-production is now the order of the day rather than tradition, but in fairness, the quality of the beers is not too bad. At the end of the tour, you get to sample 2 beers, 250ml of each, in a plastic cup! Unfortuantely, it is just the finished product, and not an unpasteurised version, which would have been a much better way to end the tour.
It was not a bad way to spend a couple of hours, perhaps I am a bit less impressed as I normally visit craft breweries who concentrate on quality and small scale production. To organise a tour, just send an E Mail to - ----
They are very helpful in arranging tours in the appropriate language.

If you like beer and want to know more, this is a great thing to do while in Prague. The personnel were very very friendly. For about €5 you get a tour and a beer. The tour is about 20 minutes and very advanced in my opinion. I would very much like to recommend this tour.

We visited the centre after purchasing tickets from our hotel, for 690czk each we were picked up from our hotel, taken direct to visitor centre where it was explained to us that the tour is automated and in our language, we would receive 2 beers each, lunch was also included in the cost of the ticket and we each got a free glass with the brewery logo on it
As we were a little early for the start of our tour, we had one of our free beers in the bar, the barman was lovely and made us feel really comfortable, he explained about the tour and the 4 types of beer we could choose from, he even suggested taking our picture from behind the bar which was really nice of him.
The tour itself was interesting and we learnt a lot about the beer making process and the history of the brewery (is that not what you go on these tours for?)
After the tour we went back down to the bar and we chose another beer to have with our lunch (traditional pickled bar foods)
The tour is different from other brewery tours we have been on, it was clear, informative and easy to follow, would definitely recommend this if you have a spare couple of hours to fill when staying in Prague

Avoid. I was looking forward to this but was left very disappointed. Ive literally wrote this as Ive went around, and If I could I would rate it 0 stars, but Google been Google you have to leave at least 1 star.
3 Emails and 2 Phone calls, prior to my visit to enquire about tickets, were ignored.
1st impression was awful, went to ticket office, the assistant stuggled to understand English, he disappeared for ten minutes to find his colleaugue, who advised me next tour was at 15.30. It just was before 15.00, and he suggested go the bar have a drink, then come back to office. So I thought OK Ican I deal with that, its beer. 59kr (£2.10) you can't knock that and I didnt mind waiting 30 minutes.
Service at the bar was awful, one girl serving one blond guy walking around aimlessly as if he was lost and didn't know what he was doing.
Thats before the tour even started, so I did have any high hopes or aspirations for the tour.
So went back at 15.30 to get my ticket using my Prague cool pass, the guy in ticket office didnt have a clue, so had to go back and get his colleague to sort out my Prague pass.
Now for the tour..... and the experience doesn't get any better at all
Its self guided, you walk through different rooms, and there is an automated voice in each room, talking about the history of Staropramen, in some rooms the voice went on too much, where it become a little tedious.
In room, you get a little information on how the beer is made and the next room is about the bottling process, again, this drags on and you loose interest.
You then come to a pointless room, playing a pointless video, of Staropramen been transported to various locations. Im pretty sure people understand how products are transported from one country to another.
30 Minutes of my life I will not get back.
At least at the end, the free drink was served quicker than when I purchased a drink before the tour

Paid £13.69 for 2 x self guided tour. Expected beer sampling tray at the end but were informed our tickets only entitled us to 1 beer each and no substitute for soft drink.
Given one beer in Prague is typically £1.50 it was a bit of a shock.
After we questioned this and showed staff our tickets we were ignored and served last after every person from our tour group had been served by a different barman who we hadn’t spoken to or taken our order.
Tour is very poor only to be surpassed by how rude the staff are. Tour is supposed to last 1.5hrs however it was probably about 30mins long. If you liked Disney’s country jamboree this is the tour for you.
Moral is maybe better to stick to Pilsner Urquell in future.
If I could have given the tour zero I would have.

Tour was poor.
Self-tour with videos in each room.
The first room didn’t allow time to actually look at some of the screens.
There was no information about how the beer was brewed, or why it’s served traditionally with a large head.
Final room is on the bottling process and you can find your country - this gives some stats.
All in all a waste and I would not recommended, nor go again.
I wouldn’t even recommend to stag-dos!

Haha.. Crazy experience. I got a lot of knowledge about this beerbrand. I got the posibility to taste the new beer they've introduced to the market "Unfiltered" beer. It was very delicious and sweet.

One of the best things to do in Prague on rainy afternoon is to visit a brewery. We chosen the Staropramen one,as we are quite the fans of this brand at home.
The tour is very modern, pretty entertaining and informative. We especially enjoyed the last part-beer tasting. The atmosphere in the bar was superb and the staff is a good laught. We stayed there for couple of hours, tasted 4 kinds of Staropramen (Unfiltered is our favorite) and had a really great time.
Highly recommending it to everyone.I am definitely comming back on my next visit in Prague.

It is a kind of museum, with 5 rooms where you can learn about the history of the Staropramen factory, the beers they produce and the method of brewing beer. They tell you the most important, most interesting and useful information about the Staropramen company. It is very interactive and modernized. Definitely worth visiting. You don't have to read, they have an 'audiovisual tourguide' who tells you everything you need to know.
At the reception they give you a little token along with your ticket that you can use at the end of your visit in the bar of the museum to get a free beer of the Staropramen kinds. Visiting the exhibition takes approximately 30 minutes and then you get to this bar area where you get your free beer. After drinking the free beer you can stay in the bar and can try other kinds of Staropramen beers for money.
I recommend it to everyone, whether you like beer or not, the museum itself is worth visiting.

Turned up near four and the ticket seller said they were fully booked, yet no one was around. In the end another member of staff said they could accommodate us and we did the "tour" on our own - just the two of us. It was obvious the ticket seller simply wanted to go home early.
The "tour" is cringeworthly bad - an audio visual guide taking you through the history and steps in the process. As a Scot used to real people taking you round the real whisky production plant this was truly awful - faked equipment/production line and no real people to bounce questions off.
This is worth about a Euro - no more.
The beer is nice though, but I recommend cutting out the shi*e in-between and head straight through the front door to the bar.
