While in Prague we took in the marionette show. This art form does not exist in the US as far as I know and was lurking on my bucket list. The marionettes performed Don Giovanni in two acts. I believe this is their usual production. I studied the opera beforehand so I was able to follow the plot. Everything went as we expected except google maps had the theater on the wrong block, which caused us to do some hunting. It would have been a good idea to find it in daylight. Really good fun, and cosy venue with friendly staff. Humorous take on something I wouldn’t usually choose to see, worth going.

I LOVED this marionette performance of Don Giovanni. What a perfect way to showcase Mozart, opera, and the Czech tradition of puppetry. I laughed at the silliness, enjoyed the music, and wondered at the complexity of the stage movements. Honestly, I was so involved that toward the end, when the puppets become "lifeless", I was amazed at how much the puppeteers had brought them to life! The theater seats around 200 and we sat in the front row (October), but I don't think the back row would make it all as charming. Be there when the doors open if you're visiting in peak season!…

We were excited to see a marionette production of the Magic Flute and were terribly disappointed with the unprofessionalism. The queen was a cardboard disk! It was the worst staged performance I’ve ever seen with amateur scenery and the puppets did not sync with the arias. Do not, and I stress, do not waste your time and money. Unless you knew the story, the performance did not offer a good interpretation. …
