Neighborhood: Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighborhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.

- TravelerTrecker840 contributionsImpressive! The municipal house is spectacular. Its façade, the ornamentation, the colors, its interior are the most impressive representations of Art Nouveau in Prague. The only way to visit is by taking the official guided tour. The tours are scheduled twice every day. There is one in the morning in Czech ; the one in the afternoon is in English. You have to pay at the entrance approximately 10 dollars. The tour lasts for one hour and takes you around the different rooms of the second floor and the Smetana auditorium. When they turn the lights of the Smetana auditorium is "wow" The guide speaks very good English and is very nice. The tour is not rushed. The explanations are very good. They do not allow regular tours to visit the place. The rooms are unique: the confiture room, the paintings (the horses, the eagle, the Czech personalities of that time), the aquarium, the oriental furniture, the fabrics, the knobs, the room designed by Mucha, the different auditoriums, etc. It is so unique, colorful and diverse! The elevators are very interesting. You can take pictures! This is one of the most impressive sites in Prague. It is close to the Powder Tower. It is very easy to find and close to the most common visited sites in Prague.Visited October 2022Written February 26, 2023
- james f33 contributionsGood concertEnjoyed the 60 minute concert , the best of classics. You can have a coffee, snack and drink in the cafe at the entrance. You check in your bag and coat before entering the hall. You get a metal token to be redeemed for your belongings . Music played to a high standard.Spoilt somewhat by audience members taking photos and videos of the concert. I wish these people would show some respect.Visited March 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 2, 2023
- UGM_BRNOBrno, Czech Republic3,355 contributionsMeet Alfons Mucha collection of masterpiecesBelieve or not Alfons Mucha was the most shining star of the Art Nouveau style. Maybe I should reword it for the floral decor was typical for this style - Mucha was the most impressive flower in the capital of artists, in Paris. His success was connected with the Sarah Bernhardt posters and many of his drawings and paintings were product adverts, for example Moët-Chandon champagn, beer, chocolate or biscuits. Why not? The contemporary exhibiton animates parts of his masterpieces so you are invited by the author (voice is of Pierce Brendan Brosnan) to enjoy both great paintings full of patriotic Slav ethos and also his commercial work, including calendars. A good news to ladies who love big scarves - you can choose from several designs. And by the way the jewelry á la Mucha is also available.Visited March 2023Traveled with friendsWritten April 1, 2023
- AmarilisVosJabbeke, Belgium2,318 contributionsGuided tour and Mucha exhibitionWe visited the town hall on March 27. There is a temporary exhibition about Mucha's work. We also took the guided tour. The explanation and the visit to this Art Nouveau building is worthwhile. You must buy tickets in advance. If you don't understand English very well, they will give you a paper with the information, but only in certain languages. Ask your language. The groups can be quite large. You won't always have time to take pictures without people in front of you.Visited March 2023Written April 13, 2023
- Johnny TrekkieSan Diego, California9,263 contributionsART!As of September 2023, there is a big, amazing, and wonderful Mucha art exhibit at the Municipal House that far exceeds the official measly little permanent Mucha museum. Its also cheaper for 290K/$13 vs 350K/$19. The exterior building architecture is gorgeous and stunning art nouveau at its best...inside isn't quite as impressive, and security staff doesn't want you wandering unless you're on a group tour. Next I would try to attend a concert or show here to go the full effect. There are a couple of fancy cafes here too in case you want some slightly overpriced drinks and food to be consumed in gorgeous and elegant setting.Visited September 2023Traveled soloWritten November 21, 2023

I was taken here by a friend who visited Prague regularly- she was excited to show me the gorgeous interior, and to enjoy their cake trolley.
It was an unusually warm day so we sat outside and our order taken quickly. I then had my lovely cherry chocolate cake arrive, we then waited over 10 minutes before asking where the drinks and Caesar salad were as we had observed tables around us ordering and receiving far more complicated orders in half the time we had so far waited. The remainder of our order finally arrived about 15 minutes after my cake. Surely a fine dining experience is you enjoy eating together rather than sit and watch the other one eat with no food or drink of your own?
We were both quite shocked at the rather appalling service we received- it was like we were invisible as tables around us seemed to do okay for their food delivery.
It took a while for us to get someone to bring a bill too. Won’t be returning.

Best experience in Prague.
Cheese tray was superb. Czech riser wines were very pleasant, same for the trout appetizer.
Easy going ambiance with amazing table service. Prices more than reasonable.

Took a tour at the Municipal House and what a place. The tour was informative and interesting. One can buy tickets online and pictures are not only allowed but encouraged here. Not suitable for children under 10. Highly recommend it!

I loved Prague and went on multiple tours, but the tour of Municipal House was my favorite. The architecture in this building is incredible. Be prepared to be amazed!! The work of Alphonse Mucha is beautiful. This was a great experience. Their gift shop is also one of the best in Prague, so do not miss it.

Should have visited inside but I don't have the chance.
1. Love the building style as it is pretty different from other buildings in Prague.
2. If you have the chance, go inside and listen to the concert. It would be great complementing the architecture style.
3. Enjoy :)

Unlike the Austrians, they won’t serve water with your cake unless you ask. Staff could be a bit more polite, considering that this place is on the tourist map. Overall the place is ok but not worth a second visit.

Opulent inside, restored to its original glory outside. Art Nouveau at its best !
The original Mosaic, that is called " Homage to Prague " is on the front of the building, high on top. The Mosaic is set between two groups of allegorical statues symbolizing the Degradation and Resurrection of the People.
The Smetana concert hall is beautiful and an evening performance there is memorable.
I had my high school prom here, hard to believe, but true.
My husband and I had dinner over the years in the two restaurants here , and enjoyed the Cafe in the afternoon.
The grand stairway leading upstairs is roped off, the upstairs spaces open only to paying tours.
One day, I will take a tour, just to see the grand ballroom I used to dance the night away ...
Till next time ...

While the building is beautiful, PLEASE do not waste your money on any performance by the con artists that call themselves the Dvořák Symphony Orchestra. For $60, I wasted an hour of my life watching in complete disbelief the "musicians" playing Canon in D, literally something a 5-year-old can play, and NOT EVEN HAVE IT MEMORIZED. PLEASE, this is an insult to everyone who isn't tone deaf or has any idea what music is. Completely amateurs at music but masters of conning tourists.

From the floor tile to the roof , it’s so detailed and a creation
Large painting on the wall, the lift, stairs and the ceiling are done beautifully
This is another masterpiece in Prague and you must go here
Left side is the glamorous restaurant which is another beauty.
At least have a nice dessert and try to take a picture
They do not allow pictures in the restaurant
But I managed few. 😂😂

We are planning to go to one of the "tourist" concerts at Smetana hall and was wondering if it's ok to dress casually or if most people dress up. We will be touring the city during the day and didn't know if we needed to go to out hotel to change or we could just go straight there. Thanks!

Some people were dressed up and some were casual. Dress for comfort you are on vacation.
Let me know if you have any other Czech Republic questions. We go every year. My husband is Czech so we know our way around pretty well. It's a beautiful city. So many things to see and do. There is a great restaurant that we found last year about 3 blocks away from the hall. U Sadlu very good food. I got Svickova it was great. We had a large party and everyone liked the food. Have a wonderful time!

This is a typical concert hall. About 10 rows back, in the middle and you'll be very good indeed!

There are two restaurants within the Municipal Building itself , only eaten in the one the, French restaurant on the right as you go into the building, which was very good, the other on the left as you enter seems to have had reasonable reviews, the décor in both is worth seeing. There are also restaurants at the rear of the craft market in the square we ate in the Celnice twice, gets very busy (good sign) but food was OK.

Wide and tasty choice of cakes, pastries and desserts. Just wait at the cafeteria entrance to be seated by the staff. Tour groups can pre-book their afternoon teas which cater to their taste.

Dear,
On December 24th we will have a concert in the Smetana Hall. Since 24 December in Czech Republic is a very important day, I wonder if there is a special dress code. I have read the previous comments but because it is this special day.

You can access the building without any problems and look inside for free. The interior is interesting. There is a café, a restaurant. The paid entrance and the tour is for the halls.
