Address
Neighborhood: Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighborhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.

Municipal House concert
Oct 2019
Great way to see Obecní dům (Municipal House) building, by attending a concert here. We reserved tickets a few weeks ahead, when seating showed it nearly sold out. Very enjoyable evening, and an opportunity to see some work of Alphonse Mucha, as well as other local artists. Very enjoyable evening.

A beautiful Art Nouveau building in Prague
Nov 2019
One of the must see buildings in Prague is the Obercni Dum ( Municipal House) that is beauitfully preserved and in use for concerts and other events. The building also has high end restaurants and cafe for any taste. A paid tour of the building is also worth it to see the main concert hall and the side rooms with the original furnishings and wall art. We didn't have time to attend any events in the main hall but it was busy for the five nights we were in Prague.

Exquisite architecture!

Our hotel was right down the street, so this building and the adjacent Powder Tower were major landmarks to help us navigate through the city. There are three restaurants in the building. We never visited the French restaurant or the downstairs beer hall. We did go to the cafe twice, once for dinner and another time just for a drink and a snack. We did the guided tour of the building, which was fantastic. Our guide was terrific. Her English was great and she made her presentation interesting. The building is just breathtaking, and the room decorated by Alphonse Mucha was so beautiful, it brought tears to my eyes. The ticket booth is through a set of doors and then to your left. The time and number of tours in various languages are different from day to day. You can check the schedule online or in person at the box office. We prefer rock n roll to classical music, but we decided to go to a concert. We saw a performance by a string ensemble of Vivaldi's Four Seasons. It took place in one of the performance spaces we had seen on the tour. The following night, a full orchestra played in Smetana Hall, but it conflicted with our dinner reservations. If you do attend a concert, you can arrive early and see a few of the rooms included on the tour, including the Mucha room. You can't see daylight through the stained glass windows at night, but it is better than nothing (and free of charge for concert goers.) The concert tickets are sold at a box office to the right after you go through the double doors. I highly recommend the building tour! The concert and the cafe are enjoyable as well. This is a must-do in Prague!

Not friendly staff

Would not have forgotten this one. It is in the middle, easy to fine. After a few photos, you can choose to get inside with a fee. We didn’t choose the option.
So it would be, just a clock...
Not friendly staff by the way.

Great, historic building

I really liked the Art Deco look of this building from the outside and the decor on the Inside is equally good. I’d recommend visiting this building. We were here for a lovely work dinner.

Highlight of our trip
Nov 2019
We loved Prague, and we loved visiting this fantastic building best ! Im a huge fan of late C19th Art, so it was on my to see list - Mr G was not quite so keen - till he got there. We started with a little look round the lobby and realising there was a tour due to start in 40 minutes went for a coffee / cake in the fantastic cafe. Drpooed our coats off in the cloakroom there and proceeded on the tour which is of the 1st floor. Just WOW ! The theatres are impressive, the meeting rooms more so - and the Munch designed foyer must be one of the most ravishing spaces I have ever been in. Our guide was good in that she was knowledgeable and allowed time for questions and photography - but she had a very sharp approach if anyone did not do as she expected ! Lunch in the cafe ( its a touch expensive for Prague - but if it was in any other City there would be ques out the door to sit in such a glorious space) Service is quick and pleasant. Also explored the downstairs bar and dining rooms. Would seriously consider returning for an evening meal and a concert , every space is glorious.

So much to see and do here
Oct 2019 • Couples
There is so much to see and do at the Obecni Dim or Municipal House. In the upper level there usually is a large exhibit. Then there is a main concert hall and 2 smaller ones. See a concert if you have time. You can also take a tour of the whole art deco styled building. On the main and lower levels there are restaurants and a bar. Finally on the lowest level there is a great art deco gift shop.
