Neighborhood: Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighborhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.

Obecní Dum is a beautiful art nouveau concert hall centre built in 1912. As well as the main auditorium the building houses the Kavárna Obecní dům which is an art deco café, the Restaurace Obecní dům a spectacular art deco restaurant, and then the Plzenska Beer Hall Restaurant housed in the Municipal House cellar. All of these have their own Trip Advisor listings, so if you want to moan about the service or food in any of these it is worth doing it on those listings, not here. We visited to see a Christmas concert performed in the Smetana Hall, which was Vivaldi Four Seasons performed by the Dvorak Symphony Chamber orchestra, which is a string-based octet. An ‘orchestra’ simply refers to any collection of instruments, but I agree the difference between a chamber and a full symphony orchestra can be very confusing, and if you are the type of person to be very disappointed by just eight talented musicians, probably best to check with the ticket desk before parting with your money. In this case they were superb, especially the lead violinist, and were ably assisted by a solo vocalist for the traditional Czech carols. And this is a wonderful space in which to enjoy classical music. There are several price bands available for concerts in the Smetana Hall and we went for the 40 euro band in the stalls behind the top band ones and they were more than good enough.

Located at Republic Square, the Municipal House (Obecní Dům) is a beautiful performing arts center built in 1912 that features art nouveau architecture. Inside Smetana Hall, the Prague Symphony Orchestra performs. Catching a live performance is really special. If the full symphony orchestra is not performing, you can still experience Municipal House by purchasing a ticket to see a performance by the Prague Music Orchestra. This is a small chamber orchestra composed of local musicians who usually play in the Symphony or the Czech Philharmonic. Concerts last for 60 minutes. We chose the "The Best of the Classics". It is a casual experience and there was probably only about a hundred in attendance in a mostly empty concert hall. However, the acoustics are outstanding, the performance is of the highest quality, and it give you an opportunity to experience Smetana Hall. Tickets prices are 750-1890 CZK ($32-84) depending on what section you purchase. No reason to buy a seat costing more than 1350 CZK

Took the one hour tour of this magnificent creation of the early 20th century. Art deco before art deco became popular. The tour is highly recommended because it visits the many side parlors – each highly decorated in its own style. The docent was excellent in her description of each room and the décor is a marvel to behold – from the woodworking to the brass work to the light fixtures and beyond. Each room is its own masterpiece and this can only been seen on the tour. If you love décor this is a great tour.

It is a monument to visit first. This communal house has a tavern, a restaurant, an "American bar", a concert hall combined with a café and many architecturally remarkable lounges. It is exceptional artistically with remarkable restoration. The guided tour (CZ/DE/EN) is not very expensive and well done. You can eat at the tavern or American bar in the basement, which will delight your eyes and stomach.

Definitely see a concert at the Municpal House. We thoroughly enjoyed a one hour 8pm performance of selections from Mozart and Dvorak. We wore jeans and sneakers. We bought the tickets at the box office. The area around the Municipal House was quite busy even after the performance (I think it was a Tuesday night). We also had lunch at one of the restaurants, which I recommend (it was the one on the left when entering the building). Also, try to see the building in the twilight... it looks amazing with the dark blue sky.

Certainly, I am not in any way fond of classical music, and to please, visit the place, here I am, at the "municipal house" to listen to "the best of Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, and Grieg". It is true that, apart from "The Nutcracker", I was ignorant, and I am still ignorant, even if it is true that it was a good time to listen to such pieces of classical music, and a beautiful time, in such a place. This architectural complex, built at the very beginning of the 20th century, is a dedicated concert hall "Smetana Hall", of exceptional beauty and decoration, floor to ceiling, , an exhibition space, reception rooms, an Art Nouveau style cafe and restaurant, a cocktail bar, a brasserie and a dance hall in the basement.

Incredible building , outstanding architecture , quite overwhelming . We went to listen to a Vivaldi and Mozart evening concert , absolutely amazing evening , such a beautiful combination of outstanding music and a beautiful surroundings. We had "VIP " seats with a great view of the stage , the acoustics are out of this world . Highly recommended and only a short walk from most hotels.

This is a hidden Art Nouveau gem. Not sure why so few people have commented on this building. Book an English tour online and prepare to be awestruck. The exterior and interior of this building is a truly unique and beautiful example of this style of architecture. We had lunch at the municipal house restaurant prior to the tour and it was hands down one of the most beautiful restaurants I have ever seen! On the tour you will see one room designed by MUCHA. Such beauty and artistry in every room. Not to be missed

The Obecni Dum was the highlight of my recent visit to Prague. The guided tour showed us all sorts of interesting and beautiful details inside this stunning theatre. English-language tours are conducted regularly, but seldom, and we simply were lucky that we were there at the right time to join one after enjoying some cake in the cafe beforehand. I highly recommend touring the theatre, followed by a visit to the iMucha exhibition.

As of September 2023, there is a big, amazing, and wonderful Mucha art exhibit at the Municipal House that far exceeds the official measly little permanent Mucha museum. Its also cheaper for 290K/$13 vs 350K/$19.

The exterior building architecture is gorgeous and stunning art nouveau at its best...inside isn't quite as impressive, and security staff doesn't want you wandering unless you're on a group tour. Next I would try to attend a concert or show here to go the full effect. There are a couple of fancy cafes here too in case you want some slightly overpriced drinks and food to be consumed in gorgeous and elegant setting.

The Smetana Hall is nice and it’s impressive the lights inside. Regarding halls I would say the Estates Theater in Prague is WONDERFUL (Don’t miss it) It was my favorite.

We went to a concert in Smetana Hall and was disappointing. The musicians didn’t seemed to have chemistry, it was a sad concert. Only 20% of tickets were sold so the theater was empty ( Tickets super expensive for what you receive).

Previous day I went to a concert in Rudolfinum Theater and even though it was in a small hall, the sound was amazing, the musicians explained the pieces they were playing, they had a “best seller program” so it is even better if you bring kids/teens because they will enjoy. The musicians were from the Prague philharmonic and was prepared and done with love.

In Prague there is a concert everywhere everyday. Make sure you read reviews before buying tickets as they really take advantage of tourists.

The municipal house is spectacular. Its façade, the ornamentation, the colors, its interior are the most impressive representations of Art Nouveau in Prague. The only way to visit is by taking the official guided tour. The tours are scheduled twice every day. There is one in the morning in Czech ; the one in the afternoon is in English. You have to pay at the entrance approximately 10 dollars. The tour lasts for one hour and takes you around the different rooms of the second floor and the Smetana auditorium. When they turn the lights of the Smetana auditorium is "wow" The guide speaks very good English and is very nice. The tour is not rushed. The explanations are very good. They do not allow regular tours to visit the place. The rooms are unique: the confiture room, the paintings (the horses, the eagle, the Czech personalities of that time), the aquarium, the oriental furniture, the fabrics, the knobs, the room designed by Mucha, the different auditoriums, etc. It is so unique, colorful and diverse! The elevators are very interesting. You can take pictures!

This is one of the most impressive sites in Prague. It is close to the Powder Tower. It is very easy to find and close to the most common visited sites in Prague.

Enjoyed the 60 minute concert , the best of classics.
You can have a coffee, snack and drink in the cafe at the entrance.
You check in your bag and coat before entering the hall. You get a metal token to be redeemed for your belongings .
Music played to a high standard.Spoilt somewhat by audience members taking photos and videos of the concert.
I wish these people would show some respect.

Terrible experience! We have been forced to get inside as the outside space is preserved for smokers only. The management and staff were not empathetic at all and do not care about the customer experience. The only thing that they care is the customer money. The manager that came out and spoke with us was laughing at us and did not offer any assistance and ran away once we wanted to make official complaint.

For people that love Art Nouveau, there is an important event going on in Prague right now. This amazing building serves as a perfect backdrop for a large exhibition of the artist Alphonse Mucha’s distinctly stylized and decorative theatrical posters. Included is an animated tribute to his monumental canvases known as The Slav Epic, depicting the history of the Slavic people. One can also closely examine a replica of his stained - glass window from St. Vitus cathedral. Tickets for this exhibition can be purchased online. Event are starting to be planned for the concert hall. The restaurant on the right and the café on the left of the entrance are opened, but the restaurant inside the Municipal House remains closed. Face masks are mandatory inside.

Prague is know for its art deco architecture, and this is a fine building that shows off the best of the Czech craft. From stained glass to mosaics, balustrades and even door handles, everything is beautiful. And the best part is that much of it is free to explore. You can take a guided tour if you like, or just wander.

We visited the town hall on March 27.
There is a temporary exhibition about Mucha's work.
We also took the guided tour. The explanation and the visit to this Art Nouveau building is worthwhile. You must buy tickets in advance. If you don't understand English very well, they will give you a paper with the information, but only in certain languages. Ask your language.
The groups can be quite large. You won't always have time to take pictures without people in front of you.

The Municipal House has a small but beautiful collection of Mucha’s designs and artworks on display above the concert hall. However, it should be noted that these are primarily lithographs, in case people are very concerned with only seeing originals. The moving displays of his works are quite breath-taking, particularly the display of the Slav Epic.
