Your experience in Prague will never be complete if you do not see it from the top. Hillsides, stretched from the west to the north, provide spectacular views of greenish copper cupolas, narrow cobblestone streets, bridges connecting both river banks and green gardens from red-roof tops of centuries-old houses. Prague pulls you into its 1300 year old history. Walking up the hill or stairs to Prague Castle, the historical seat of Czech rulers and the majestic Saint Vitus Cathedral can leave you speechless (and out of breath). Luckily, plenty of terrace cafés overlooking gardens and beautiful parks are available to provide rest and a place to catch your breath again.

The Story of Prague Castle exhibition is an eclectic mix of themes that collectively tell the history of Prague from the earliest period through its development up to late medieval period. Many of the exhibits were high quality. Everything had at least an English label, but not everything had an English description. The thing I did not like about the exhibitions was the poor layout. It was really hard to guess what order to visit the exhibitions or even the rooms. Without a guide or audio guide, you're left to wander around a room before you figure out the order by which time it's too late.
The exhibition requires climbing castle stairs aI doubt it would be accessible for those with mobility issues.
Sadly no photos allowed.

If you are into History, here you wlll find a LOT of information on how old Prague was founded and ruled.
Many exhibits all in a maze of beautiful Gothic rooms. Sadly they have totally forbidden photography now, even if you have bought the pass.

You really need to come to this exhibit first to gain a proper appreciation of the development of Prague Castle, its rulers and the city. The information panels gave fascinating insights and I enjoyed the level of detail (not dumbed down). Some of the artefacts are really quite amazing: St Wenceslas' armour, burial clothes of kings and bishops, ancient jewellery and textiles in remarkably excellent condition.

Here you will notice a magnificent painting of the Crucifixion behind the chapel alter. This painting was executed under rather gruesome circumstances. It was commissioned by the Archbishop of that time and the work was carried out by a young Italian artist. The artist hired a beggar as a model and tied him to a cross, but because the poor man didn’t seem to be suffering enough, the artist stabbed him through the heart and painted his agony-filled face. After delivering the painting, the artist, full of remorse, committed suicide.

What an amazing place. The signs through out are in Czech and English. There is so much to see. The rooms are extensive, as are the collection pieces.
There are models showing how the palace and its gardens developed. Painting and pictures, armour and statues.
We almost had the place to ourselves, a shame for everyone else. There is so much here to see and learn.

We visited here as part of the Circuit A ticket of the castle. The castle was very crowded and we started here as it was less busy. There is a lot of see from various models of the area as it developed to crown jewels and costumes. We really enjoyed the museum.

One of the castle’s most compelling exhibitions, with an outstanding collection of armour and other artefacts from more than a thousand years of the castle’s history. We spent more time here than any other part of the castle.

This exhibit walks you through the History of Prague. The history goes back 1300 years! There are lots of plaques that tell you in Czech and English about the history and relics on display. We were able to view this exhibit with ticket option A that we purchased at Prague Castle. There is an old Bible dating from 1640, bones of people found from 1100 years ago, coins, clothes, jewels, engraved stones, pottery, and so much more! We found this exhibit very interesting but not everyone will.

The Prague Palace is average. The Prague views at the balcony are beautiful. We spent about one hour at the palace.

what is the suggested visiting duration? an hour or 2 hours?

There is a lot to see and it depends upon your interest. Tow hours would probably be a better amount of time than one hour.
