About
Our museum called Speculum Alchemiae, is situated in one of the oldest houses in Prague. There are secret alchemical laboratories from the 16th century in the museum underground that were built for the king Rudolf II. The alchemists of that time used to prepare elixirs in there. The museum building also includes a shop, where equal elixirs can be bought. These elixirs are prepared under strict conditions according to their original recipes which have been found here. Newly, we also offer a unique tour of magical places in Prague which are connected with the Speculum Alchemiae museum. The guided tour includes the Prague Castle, Vysehrad, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, and the museum. At these places you learn about many amazing legends and mythological stories associated with the so-called Prague Magical Triangle.

Neighborhood: Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighborhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.

Looks nice, but unfortunately they tell the story as if alchemy actually worked. But sure, the interior is nice, and looks the part. They do a good job telling how chemistry was viewed at the time, but never really break character to say ”we know better now”. Nice, but wouldn’t go again, or recommend others.

The 30 minute tour of the secret laboratory was excellent. The front looks like a simple souvenir shop, you can get a ticket at the counter, the run roughly every 30mims. If there’s a large group, they recommend waiting for the next one.

They take you through a door at the rear of the shop that leads you back in time, to a medieval world of elixirs, king’s and escape tunnels all over town and even out of the city if needed.

Very entertaining.

This is a very unique tour one should definitely do in Prague. It is like a museum experience one might have in the world of Harry Potter. Occult themes, subterranean rooms and even a secret passageway. Our guide Anda was fabulous! Informative, friendly and has great answers for any questions one might have. It is the definition of the Prague charm I’ve experienced throughout the city.

Totally magical and worth it. It's a small museum, but very well done, and if you're interested in magic/fairy tales it's a must do tour.

A friend went to this place to break up our first full day in Prague and it was certainly worth it.

Went as a result of the positive reviews online. We were not disappointed. The guide was engaging, enthusiastic but also transparent about the history and the story of alchemy within Prague.

The tour itself takes you on a mystical journey into the depths of the draconian art of alchemy and the secrets left behind.

The tour is also very affordable and worth the price. Overall, an excellent use of an hour if you have it to spare in Prague. The museum is centrally located and easily accessible, not suitable for disabled tourists however.

A must do tour when you are in Prague. Amazing experience, especially if you are person of science as me and love history. We found out about this place by accident and decided to come. Best decision ever. Super cool place and story behind it, highly recommended!

This museum essentially showcases a number of underground rooms and tunnels that were discovered about 20 years ago. Because they had been sealed off and forgotten about you effectively get a time capsule containings relics from bohemian history. The various contents of the site range from chemistry equipment to the tools that were used to attempt to make gold. All in all, its a very interesting place to visit and provides insight into a little known side of Prague.

The young chap that was doing our tour was very informative and entertaining. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Prague who has an interest in such things as alchemy, magic and mystical secret things. Will not spoil anything by saying what it was like beyond the shop front but beyond the door, it is quite a magical place.
