Neighborhood: Malá Strana (Little Quarter)
Malá Strana is one of the oldest and the most beautiful neighborhoods in the city. Nestled underneath Prague Castle it was once a part of the Kings route taken by future kings on their way to coronation - originating in the Old Town, crossing Charles Bridge and leading to Saint Vitus Cathedral. Cobblestone streets are lined with picturesque medieval houses, remarkable palaces, churches, kitsch shops and restaurants. Do not hesitate to turn a corner into any narrow street. You will suddenly find yourself in a calm and charming neighborhood full of hidden gardens, parks with peacocks, fruit trees and ponds. As the neighborhood is a home to Czech Parliament and many ministries, you can also run into well-dressed officials. If you are thirsty or hungry, it is the right place to be. Restaurants offer delicious traditional food and of course, the best Czech beers.

For Karel Zeman's films fans
Jun 2020
I think, this place is interesting for Karel Zeman's films fans. Foreigners who do not know his work, won't probably have much fun at this museum. Museum is really small and entrance fee is quite high for this size of exhibition (250,- CZK).

You can watch Zeman's films (with English subtitles) here. There are costumes from these films on display and you can see how they did special movie effects many years ago. There are a lot of activities for kids.

ENTRANCE SQUARE TO MUSEUM
Oct 2019
After walking across Charles Bridge we looked down to this little courtyard where the museum is. There were restaurants around the square and visuals of films that were made by Karel Zeman. A throw back in time.We didn't go into the actual museum as it was getting late

Quite boring
The presentation is relatively boring and lacks any excitement.
The descriptions are in Czech as well as in English. Staff not particularly friendly.
Suitable for young kids and film fans. Nothing special, easy forgettable.
The price is quite high for a rather small museum.

Imaginative
Dec 2019
Not the most exciting place to visit but it was interesting to see what Karel Zeman was capable of many years ago. He really was years ahead of his time, almost as if he had traveled in a time machine to the future for ideas. Obviously it is nothing like the special effects we have today but that is what makes it so interesting. Lots of little things to see and read about. There is a flying machine as well as a flying horse that you can play around on.

Computers to tired to work?
Dec 2019
Even though concept of the museam seemed interesting (special effects on the film and how they were filmed), presentation is pretty poor. Interesting to see and learn the facts about life of Karel Zeman and about his work, but regarding special effects you won't be impressed.

The other thing is working time. Even though it is officially opened until 19, at 18 they already turned off part of the exibition where kids should make their own movies by drawing. We were told that computers are running all day and they need to rest. Say what!? I bet Karel Zeman, man who was ahead of his time, would turn in his grave if he knew that in 2020. computers in his museam are too tired to work all day. We left at 18:36 and couldn't even use the toilet at the end because it was locked. Probably it was tired too.

Relatively boring exposition, because we didn't grow up with those movies. For czech kids should be fun.

Thank you very much for the review. The exposition is built to amuse with no need to know the films by Karel Zeman ahead. Nevertheless, the esthetics of it is very specific and aims mainly to film fans. We hope you at least enjoyed the interactive parts of the exposition.

I had not heard of Karel Zeman prior to my visit and thought I was visiting a museum of film special effects, which technically it was.
I found this museum absolutely fascinating and extremely interesting.

Such an interesting museum.

Highly recommend this small tucked away museum. Karel Zeman was a genius of his time and clearly influenced many film makers of today. If you are into the movies this place will fascinate you.

Creative wonderland

Small but perfectly formed, this museum inspires young film makers and artists to think creatively and learn about traditional special effects. I have been twice with kids and once on my own and I will be going back again and again as long as live because it's a special little place celebrating a special filmmaker and his movies. Dik moc xx
