We arrived at the “dungeon” promptly at 8:30 because we thought that’s when we would begin the bar crawl. We sat in a literal mold covered dungeon for 2.5 hours drinking awful, warm drinks. We met nice people but were getting bored. The music was WAY too loud.
Finally, at 11:00, we were told we were going to another bar and to be discreet when walking there. The walk to the first bar was at least 20 minutes. When we arrived, we were given a shot that we had to take before stepping off the stairs. The bar was fun but then the real issues began.
While leaving the bar, we were told to be quiet and go in small groups so the police wouldn’t be suspicious. While heading to the tram (yeah, not sure why we were taking the tram) we were surrounded by 20-25 police and undercover officers. They demanded to see everyone’s identification/passports and asked if we were in the county legally. They began to question us and told us we had fallen for a scam and the entire operation was illegal. The guide was questioned and photographed. After the police were finished, everyone was told to go home but the guide continued down the street.
In my years of traveling internationally, I’ve never experienced something like this. Do not fall into this trap because it may land in danger.
