About
Since 1999, this tiny boutique in the upper castle area has offered a large, hand-picked assortment of genuine Czech and European toys and gifts, including wooden toys, wind-up toys, art supplies, model cars, puppets and marionettes. It`s a little hard to find, tucked under an arcade near the Loreto Square, so look for the wooden rocking horse above the door. Owner Ivan Karhan will be happy to help you select the perfect memento or gift for a loved one. English spoken.

Your experience in Prague will never be complete if you do not see it from the top. Hillsides, stretched from the west to the north, provide spectacular views of greenish copper cupolas, narrow cobblestone streets, bridges connecting both river banks and green gardens from red-roof tops of centuries-old houses. Prague pulls you into its 1300 year old history. Walking up the hill or stairs to Prague Castle, the historical seat of Czech rulers and the majestic Saint Vitus Cathedral can leave you speechless (and out of breath). Luckily, plenty of terrace cafés overlooking gardens and beautiful parks are available to provide rest and a place to catch your breath again.

We waited for the shop to open and once it did, the best part of the shop was to be able to talk with person in charge. He has so much knowledge and some of the toys he showed were so fascinating. Its a sweet, quaint, warm place to be. The experience for me was more memorable than the toys I bought. I hope to come back some day and afford the cool toys that I saw. I thank you for the memory and recommend this shop for anyone who wants to explore their inner playfulness, while they tourist.

The best. I had read about the rocking horse toy shop already on trip advisor. I ran from my hotel, with little time to spend 25mins with the most wonderful owner whose passion for his toys was just a joy. From the history to the mechanics.

I look forward to coming back and spending more time there with the children.

For now my Kovap car sits on my desk and played with constantly.

I discovered was wonderful to a store about four years ago On one of my visits to Prague. When I arrived in Prague on my current trip, I made it a point to check on the store to see how it fared during the Covid crisis. I was pleased to see that Ivan and Patricia still had the shop going. This is the most magical toy store I’ve ever been to.

My husband and I were strolling around Loreta and could not help but remember our visits in your store from many years ago. This time we were staying in Hotel Savoy the first week of our stay in Prague. We walked by the store several times.
Those walks brought back wonderful memories, when shopping for toys was a "must" on every trip.

The toys we picked then, were very special , not only because they were Czech made , but also reminded us of the toys of our childhood. Our grandkids enjoyed years of play with toys that did not break.

I am very glad to see that the store is managing to stay open during the unfortunate Covid situation. I wish you well ...

Till next time,

It's a rarity to find a Toy Shop like this nowadays. With everything going electronic its such a pleasure to see Toys made this way, Handcrafted Dolls, Puppets, Vehicles and more. Lots of Puzzles and Games, so much fun to browse and buy. They make excellent gifts! I'll give them to friends and the first thing out of their mouths is always, "Where did you find this?" Avoid the touristy gift shops when buying for friends and get them something with a little heart and soul. It goes over well and brings back memories.

Thank you very much for your lively comments. It’s so nice when our customers enjoy the toys as much as we do.

What an amazing shop! We went here in search of the vintage metal cars for our daughters. We left with much more than cars lol. Ivan is the perfect person in a store like that, a child at heart. Must visit!

We stumbled on this store, on our way to dinner and had a wonderful experience. We found just the perfect gifts for our grandkids back in the US.
The whole family came to Prague with us in June this year for couple of weeks to show our kids and grandkids, the place where my husband and I grew up. Although I know Prague very well I no longer know good places to shop for toys. They did not get much then, but they had a quality play ground time that they loved. I wanted to get them something special from this trip to remember Prague. My 7 year old grandson wanted to ride on the tram and when we finally took all of them, (his 5 year old sister and 3 year old brother)they all loved it. So I thought a small red tram would make a great gift for each of the boys, (I already had a princess puppet for my granddaughter). I was hopeful that this would be the place to find it.The young lady(Veronica),, that was helping us tried really hard to think where we could get it, but with not much time left in our visit I knew that if I did not find here, I will not find it. My husband (Grandpa) was busy playing with the tractors-beautiful, but too complex for the 3 year old. The 7 year old could handle it, but the 3 year old would break it. We wanted to linger just a bit longer, since we were recognizing toys of our childhood in the mix. As we were leaving, I looked up to the ceiling, and there it was. A red metal cable car ( funicular), that also came in yellow and blue, great, so the boys each would have their own color. We had taken them on the cable car ride in June (to the top of the Petrin Hill), they enjoyed the ride and remembered that as one of the highlights of the trip.
I was also pleased, that what I was buying, was made in the Czech republic and not in China. Veronica suggested to try out the toys to make sure they were perfect and even gave us cute little gift bags-nice touch :)
It turned out to be the perfect gift from a charming store, one that we will definitely visit again, while in Prague.

This is a small shop and can be missed easily if one is not observant but is located in a delightful spot some distance from Prague Castle
The toys are traditional representing the Czech republic. From puppets to dolls and trinkets.
I actually went seeking a small wooden rocking horse. I ended up with two !
Of good quality the make of the toys is simple but these are the true toys
It is wonderful to have this kind of shop around
I suppose I am old fashioned but these toys are what kids need today and these will last for a long time

Around the shop are eateries, an ATM is closeby
The shop is easily accessible from the city via tram 22. One gets off 3 tram stops after the Prague Castle drop off.

From the shop one can walk down to St Nicholas Church. The street is lined with shops and cafes.
The little Quarter district of Prague of course is the historical heart of the City
A visit to Our Lady of Victories is a must for any Catholic. The Infant Jesus shrine is there. The architecture is fantastic but that is another story.

I was very happy to shop in this delightful store
The staff was so friendly and helpful

Hi Miguelito, and thank you for this lovely review - I responded earlier, but somehow it did not get published. We appreciate your pointing out how a visit to the shop can be folded in to a nice walking tour of the Lesser Quarter and castle area. I hope your rocking horse toys were a hit!

We just dropped in to look around. On our visit a year ago we did most of our shopping for our grandkids here and all the purchases were met with great enthusiasm.
This time we shopped for them in Italy and did not leave much room in our luggage for more stuff to bring home.
We did not have much time and could not find anything appropriate for all three. Not because there was not enough merchandise, but the small store was full of customers and just a little harder to navigate.
Do go if you are in the area, it is a charming store with a good selection.

Hi - it`s very nice of you not only to visit us again, but to take the trouble to write about it! I am glad your grandchildren enjoyed the toys from the first visit, and sorry that you got crowded out on the second one. Usually the shop is not so full, but when it is, there is indeed little room to maneuver. Hope to see you again!

I have lived in Prague for many years and Rocking Horse is one of the few shops where I feel like I can buy original items for friends and children back in America. The toys at Rocking Horse are unique, well crafted, and affordable. I particularly love the hanging mobiles, in the form of dragons, and they are always a hit with babies. Situated in lovely Loretta, behind the Prague Castle, a walk to the toy store is a nice experience in and of itself.
