Get hold of a map and the train, tram and bus routes from the hotel concierge as soon as possible and try to avoid the hop on hop off buses if you can. They are always full to overflowing and get worse as the holiday season progresses. We have used them in many cities and never experienced anything like the mayhem in Prague before! Earlier this year we were on one bus jam packed up the stairs and aisles (illegally) and discovered the hammers to break the safety glass were all missing: a death trap. It sounds as if your hotel is in the tourist area anyway so you could be better off on foot. Only a limited number of smaller buses are allowed in the old town so the queues to get on can be horrendous. Our hotel was further out so we bought a two day ticket. What a waste of money. We used the underground system in desperation and it was brilliant. Buy a daily pass. It does take a bit of sorting out to make sure you're heading in the right direction but once you get the hang of the route maps in the stations it will be fine. Most young people speak English so ask if you are unsure. We did several times until we became familiar with our route. Remember, always ask a young person!

Seriously, don't use this company. They are just interested in screwing tourists... We stayed at the Novotel in Prague and there is indeed a bus stop near by BUT it is not marked. We just found it by coincidence because of a crowd of tourists waiting there to hop on the "bus". However, none of us was capable to hop on because there was no empty seat... So we pretty much wasted 45 minutes and had to walk to the city center. I can't recommend them!!
