Come to see the building, not the exhibits
Aug 2021 • Couples
This is a stunning building! I read other reviews and most of them were true. Apparently the only complete exhibit is the minerals. It was interesting. There was a temporary coin exhibition with ancient coins. Egyptian exhibit was sold out. You can skip if you don’t have time but I’m glad I went as we were in Prague for 4 days.

The best museum in Prague
Oct 2019
One of the best museums in Prague. You have to go there during your stay in Prague. The staff is very kind, friendly and helpful, especially at the gift shop.

Unlike the National "Museum" in Every Way. It's brilliant.

After experiencing the National "Museum" of Prague's abysmal staffing, layout, modern art nonsense and utter lack of exhibits, this hidden gem was genuinely worth the money. It's a real museum with hundreds if not thousands of artifacts. Great layout which works chronologically from prehistory to modern day Czech history. All the rooms are really well constructed and there is just so much to see. They also play fitting music in some rooms which really adds to the atmosphere but doesn't get in the way of reading. Staff were also quiet and helpful. When I think of museum I think of places like The British Museum and the Ashmolean... This was like those in every way, just a little smaller.

Avoid the scam that is the National Museum of Prague and its connected buildings and go for this instead. I have no idea why this museum is hidden when it's literally the only one worth visiting.

Disappointed

The whole building is majestic. The inside architecture and stairs and paintings as well. The exhibition however were a huge disappointment!!! I expected to see a history of Prague, instead I saw few exhibitions of mediocre quality to say the least! It is true that you get to see 5 other museums with the entrance ticket but if they have told me that the museum was almost empty I would have skipped it. The only reason I’m giving it a 2/5 is that the tutankhamoun exhibition which was a great experience. So you can actually skip the museum and pay for the tutankhamoun only. I don’t recommend this museum unless they change/fix their exhibitions.

Just take a picture of the building and move on

There were very limited exhibitions within general the museum. We felt that it was not clear that all the exhibits would be shut. There were a lot of people just wondering round looking lost. I had a nice coffee in the coffee shop, once I eventually found it.
The lady on the ticket sales was also extremely rude when I did not have the exact money and she had to give me change!
You do get to go to 7 museums for the entry price, however the other one that we tried was not great either! And the others were all quite far out.
I’m sure once all the exhibits are back in it will be a wonderful place to visit. Unfortunately, not for us.

Insightful exhibits

Langweil's 3D model of Old Prague, and the digitalisation of it were incredible. Don't miss the viewing where you're taken through the map virtually on screen.

We learnt a lot about pre-historic settlement in Prague. The special exhibit was on homelessness was very well curated.

The building and the paintings at the top of the stairs are beautiful.

Dated and not many exhibits

Was hoping for an overview of Prague’s history. This was disappointing. Three fairly small exhibitions without anything out of the ordinary.

Only accepts CZECH currency
Jul 2019 • Couples
We made the long walk to the museum and were astonished to find that they did not accept Credit Card Payments or Euros! You had to pay in CASH! As we didn't have and Czech currency on us we had to give this attraction a miss!

Really good museum to learn about the city's history and escape crowds
Jun 2019 • Couples
We went on a hot Saturday afternoon. Almost empty! Some rooms we had to ourselves. Great A/C!

But really well done too. Kept my interest, well thought out exhibitions. As an English speaker, the signs helped and were translated really well.

There's an interesting 3 d short movie. Would have preferred more of a historical movie, but it was fine to watch.

The only really weird thing is I had read other reviews about an audio guide. I even emailed in advance and the museum said yes you get an audio guide when you pay admission and there is an english version. Got there...no audio guide. Weird, lost in translation I imagine.

Still highly recommend.

Archaeology and City History
May 2019 • Couples
This is a gem. Many exhibits that outline the history of the town, the geographical growth, the archaeological finds. Make sure you understand how to use the audio set before you start. Our guide didn't speak English and we only figured it out after a couple rooms.
