The area

Neighborhood: Nove Mesto (New Town)
Nearly 700 hundred meters long, Wenceslas Square represents the most frequent and buzzing crossroads of the city. The National Museum in the upper part of the square watches over your spending spree in countless shops and retail stores lining the entire square, which ends at Na Příkopě, the most famous shopping street. When tired or broke, you can explore the city's underpasses, which can take you to the Old Town or to the courtyards of art nouveau houses with secret gems of greenery, white benches and rose bushes that provide unexpected peace in the midst of the city. Be sure to pay a visit to the traditional cafés, classic Czech pubs, cinemas and theaters. National Theater near the river has a lot to offer to foreigners. Go to the river bank and enjoy live music and drinks while watching a sunset behind Prague Castle.

The New Town (Nové Město) was established and designed by Charles IV in 1348. The town was first planned around three large markets, the Hay and Straw Market, the Livestock Market and a Horse Market which is now the site of Wenceslas Square. However most of what you see today dates back from extensive redevelopment in the late 1800’s.
However, Nové Město is the newest quarter in Prague and the largest of the six central districts, being larger in area than the Old Town and the Jewish Quarter put together. It may lack the architectural interest and the historical charm of the Old town, but it is still worth exploring and does hold some buildings of note and some very interesting art structures, such as the Franz Kafka Statue and the butterfly Spitfires on the Máj department store on Národní třída.

Despite its name, New Town dates back to the 14th century. However, much of what is seen now dates back to its redevelopment in the late 1800s. New Town is the commercial and cultural hub of Prague. Throughout this area of town, you will find shopping, hotels, restaurants, cafes and nightlife. Highlights include historically important Wenceslas Square with the National Museum, the art nouveau Municipal House (Obecni dum) performance center at Republic Square, the magnificent National Theater (Narodni divadlo), and The State Opera House. This is also where you will find the public artwork Kafka Rotating Head, the unique architecture of the Dancing House. While New Town should be included in a visit to Prague, I didn't find it matching the charm of other areas of the city including Old Town, Lesser Town and the Prague Castle area.

An old neighborhood, despite its name. It was founded in 348 by Charles IV, the most important king in Czech history. As a result, here you can find a number of important attractions: Wenceslas Square, with the National Museum, Jubilee Synagogue or National Theater.

New Town is a district in Prague.
it is one of Prague's four historic districts, and this is the largest of them.
There are museums, historic buildings, theatres and restaurants.
Personally I prefer Mala Strana district.

If you like nothing better than poking around junk shops and flea markets, head for the area of Nove Mesto to the SW of Narodni Trida Metro (between Spalena and the river). There, particularly on Kremencova and Psrtossova you'll find plenty to delight you, without the high prices to be found in the antique shops in the busier areas

Once you move beyond the Wenceslas Square area, which is very touristy and pricey, you start to find lots of the shops that the locals use. These are cheaper that the main street shops that are aimed at visitors.
We had a great meal in New Town for £11 for two mains, two desserts and four drinks. There is plenty of great architecture, historical buildings and visitor attractions in New Town so welwprth spending a day walkimg about.l

A walk in the New Town can begin from the metro station Mustek or Museum.

In Wenceslas Square I’ve admired the St. Wenceslas Monument, the National Museum, the old Hotel Europa. Very close to the National Museum (the new building) are the State Opera of Prague, and an ancient and monumental railways station.

Also, in this area you can visit Mucha Museum, housed by the Kaunitzky Palace.

In the neighborhood of Wenceslas Square is the beautiful Franciscan Garden, with an underground restaurant – U Frantiskanu.

Another walk can start from the metro station Karlovo Namesti. The Carol Square is the first step, then I’ve seen the Faust House, and the church St John on the rock, which are are very close to the Carol Square.

I continued with the National Theater, and the St Ursula church.

If you need some beer, after so much walking, the smallest brewery of Prague – U Fleku wait for you. Here you can drink an exclusive strong beer.

I enjoyed these walks very much, and I suggest you do the same.

Nove Mesto ( New Town ) despite the implications of the districts name is in fact one of the oldest districts of the city and is the beating heart of this beautiful Bohemian city.
Much of what modern architecture you will spot in this district is in fact built around ancient square's ,architecture throughout this district is interesting and the history attached to the district is fascinating ,it's a major shopping area and is packed with pubs, cafés ,bars and restaurants and is most definitely well worth exploring if you're planning a holiday to Prague.

Taking a stroll in any street of Prague will take you centuries back! Most of the city has gothic architecture, incredible parks, churches and ancient buildings that will take your breath away! You will pinch your arm every time, because more than once you'll think you're dreaming... Places like Mala Strana, Vito's Cathedral, the Castle, Stare Mesto, Tyn Church, Saint Nichola's Church, Jewish Neighborhood, National Museum, Wenceslao's square, Astronomic clock, and many other will stick in your memory for ever!
