The area
Neighborhood: Nove Mesto (New Town)
Nearly 700 hundred meters long, Wenceslas Square represents the most frequent and buzzing crossroads of the city. The National Museum in the upper part of the square watches over your spending spree in countless shops and retail stores lining the entire square, which ends at Na Příkopě, the most famous shopping street. When tired or broke, you can explore the city's underpasses, which can take you to the Old Town or to the courtyards of art nouveau houses with secret gems of greenery, white benches and rose bushes that provide unexpected peace in the midst of the city. Be sure to pay a visit to the traditional cafés, classic Czech pubs, cinemas and theaters. National Theater near the river has a lot to offer to foreigners. Go to the river bank and enjoy live music and drinks while watching a sunset behind Prague Castle.

Na Příkopě is a popular thoroughfare in Prague. Historically it's interesting as it traverses the site of the former city wall around the Old City. However, today it is a busy street for shopping where you can find all the well-known brands. That may appeal to many but for me it was just a connection from Old Town to more interesting areas of New Town.

Since 1238 there was a ditch, 8 m deep, which led along the medieval walls of the Old City. In 1760, the ditch was filled in, chestnut trees were planted and a street was formed. Now this is one of the most famous streets in Prague, connecting the Old Town and the New Town. Since 1985 it has been a pedestrian street.

Shopping Promenade.
Starts at the bottom of Wenceslas Square , ends close to the Obecni Dum . It is a nice wide boulevard, with many shops and restaurants.
With entrances to passages with shopping malls such as Cerna Ruze, Slovansky Dvur.
Specialty chain stores galore. Clothing , Shoes , Toys , Crystal .
Prikopy is a tree lined street, with benches to take a break from shopping.
We like to take a stroll here on a sunny afternoon, even if we are not shopping ....

This is a street that changed dramatically in the last 25 years. Like the Wenceslaus square. There was a time when the tramways made a stop here, most of the stores were small, specializing in crystal and jewelry, leather goods, and book stores. All with limited selections. The one large department store in the middle of Prikopy specialized in merchandize for children. They also had a puppet theater and excellent ice cream cakes. For birthdays! All kids loved it. Something bright in the gloomy communist era.
I am all for progress and here on this street time certainly did not stand still.
But with all the shopping, don't miss the interesting facades of the beautiful old buildings- they did not change.
I like the benches circling the large trees and all the other places where you can sit outside and relax, do a little people watching and perhaps a review of your purchases.
The hidden passages are also fun to explore.
So if shopping is your thing, I you will have fun here. Prepare to spend, luxury does not come cheep. Good thing they take credit cards. Don't forget to inquire about the rules of the VAT tax refund if you are spending large. It can save you money.
Na Prikopech and Parizska street are a good choice for your shopping needs.

Na Prikopech is a boulevard lined with trees and it seems to be made for leisurely stroll, even in the tourist filled Prague. The trams no longer pass trough so it is much more pleasant to just stroll around.
Do a little shopping, dining and perhaps even take in a movie. There are stores to shop for fashionable clothes, restaurants, cafes. Some have been there for years - the Moser crystal gallery, my favorite - some were added recently - the Hamleys - a must see large toy store. Slovansky Dum has a relatively new cinema complex, and one of these days I hope to visit. Unfortunately there is never enough time for everything ...
Na Porici connects Wenceslas Square with Powder Tower.

There is only so much sightseeing you can do in Prague and it is nice to break it up by going shopping!
The street is a wide pedestrian area where you can find all the big names in shopping along with street vendors, cafes and restaurants.
It is a clean safe area and well worth a visit to combine shopping and architecture.

I like shopping here.
You can stroll around without the determination and pressure of actually buying something. You can just walk in and out of the stores, shop or just admire their beautifully displayed merchandise. So blissfully different from shopping in a huge mall.
My favorite store Na Prikopech has to be Moser. The high quality crystal and upscale ambience makes it a must visit.
There is designers clothing galore to choose from, though not quite the luxury brands found on Parizska Street. The beautiful Slovansky Dum hides a cinema complex within.
Yes, it can be great shopping, go to the movies or dining experience. You can combine all three if you have the time.
I mostly enjoy strolling around. My husband gets slightly bored.
I find it amazing how much Na Prikopech has changed in the short 25 years.
All for the better with one exception - KFC - Now how did that happen?

Prague is far behind world's fashion capitals like Milan, Paris or London, but yet the shopping experience is rapidly improving from one year to another. Na Příkopě is Prague's very central area full of all types of shops from very expensive high end brands like Burberry, Michael Kors, Max Mara, Barkers shoes to a middle price range like G-Star, United Colors of Benetton, Bershka, ZARA etc. My highest attention is attracted by so called Pánská Pasáž (Gentlemen Passage), which is completely dedicated to men's fashion ranging made to measure shirts and suits at the local brand store Le Premier, LOAKE shoes, sexy underwear and swimming wear by ES Collection as well as cool store Fashion Therapy offering youth Italian fashion brand Antony Morato for a very affordable prices and outstanding fashion socks SocksInBox designed by local Czech designer Iva Neumannova.

This is a wide pedestrianised street which contains a large and wide range of shops, cafes and restaurants. When we visited in December there were many people as well as street performers. It is a short walk from the old town square and it is worth it to strol around.

I have an issue of Rick Steves’ guide to Prague (2013) saying that on this street is a former bank building that has a lovely Art Nouveau style but I cannot seem to find what the building is currently - can anyone assist? In the book he references it as Na Prikope 20 - is that the address? TIA!!
Written January 29, 2018
Yes, this is the correct address. The former bank was Zivnostenska Banka, merged into Unicredit Bank in 2010 about. Some years ago Unicredit left the building.

I've been to this street in the end of June this year and I fell in love with the smell of the trees. Does anybody know what kind of trees line up in Na Prikope? I know that it is Tilia, but I need exact species.
