The Old Town Hall is one of the most significant monuments in the Czech Republic. It was established in 1338 as the administrative seat for Prague's Old Town. Now, it is mainly used for the ceremonial purposes of the capital city, Prague. The historical town hall consists of a set of five medieval houses, the corner of which is adorned with a historical astronomical clock, a gothic oriel window and a massive rectangular tower. The lookout gallery on the town hall tower offers the most beautiful view of Prague. A tour of the historical halls in the Old Town Hall is a unique experience. The expensively decorated rooms date from various periods and are examples of the remarkable development of the town hall complex. The guided tours in various languages are organised in half-hourly intervals.

The front of the Old Town Hall is always busy with people. But seeing Astronomical Clock is like being in NYC and not visiting Times Square. It is important to just see it and enjoy looking at it. A little show of apostles happens every hour for a minute or so. It is nice to see but don't expect anything... More

Staré Město and its buildings are amazing. Suggestion: go and have a beer @ Terasa U Prince, from the rooftop you'll enjoy a perfect view of the Old Town Hall, and have the chance to see the whole Astronomical Clock performance without being surrounded by the crow. Amazing!

I signed up for behind the scene tour at 20:00. It was approx 1.5 hour. Managed to see the chapel, where one could see the 12 disciples movement from inside. Understand that the town hall was a rich man's residence but later being converted for townhall use. Parts by part it was being converted. Visited a few halls, very much... More

Old Town Hall and the Astronomical Clock are located in the centre of Old Town Square. The Astronomical Clock is located at the bottom of the Old Town Hall tower. It is a must see attraction and almost unmissable if you're in the square. This medieval astronomical clock photographs exceptionally well, and is worth visiting near the hour in order... More

I saw it in the day time so I have no idea how it is at night... maybe a little bit more romantic ))) Nice idea from the past to remind every hour what is important in our life.

Lots of people gather around the clock to see it change on the hour. Lots of food and drink stalls dotted around. The clock is an amazing piece of architecture which definatly is a must see.

A must see, the clock is the oldest working astronomical clock it sets off on the hour between 9am and 9pm. (Beware it is due to undergo renovation work throughout March 2017) The town hall has an information centre, you can purchase public transport tickets here. There are some rooms you have to pay to see, however, I went into... More

As above really! Again, as with all of Prague the architecture is beautiful but the clock is a real disappointment and very busy with hundreds of people queuing to see it on the hour! Maybe a novelty for some but not for me.

Staying in Stare Mesto (Old Town)

Neighborhood Profile
Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighborhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.
