The Old Town Hall is one of the most significant monuments in the Czech Republic. It was established in 1338 as the administrative seat for Prague's Old Town. Now, it is mainly used for the ceremonial purposes of the capital city, Prague. The historical town hall consists of a set of five medieval houses, the corner of which is adorned with a historical astronomical clock, a gothic oriel window and a massive rectangular tower. The lookout gallery on the town hall tower offers the most beautiful view of Prague. A tour of the historical halls in the Old Town Hall is a unique experience. The expensively decorated rooms date from various periods and are examples of the remarkable development of the town hall complex. The guided tours in various languages are organised in half-hourly intervals.

The clock is not overrated at all. If you know the history of the clock you will be amazed with the technology. Worth checking the drama happening every hour. make sure you check the clock at 60th minute. Don't just check and pass.

We caught this at 9pm. So it was still light. If you don't like crowds then this isn't for you. The area in front of the clock starts to fill up about 10 minutes before the hour. It is wall to wall people. They people did not seem to be to pushy. Kinda like a party atmosphere.

When visiting Prague, this is one of the iconic places to see, like going back in time, especially when the clock strikes at the top of the hour!!!

On the hour every hour people congregate in front of the astronomical clock to watch the little people go past the window, it's a bit of an anticlimax but still has to be done when in Prague but the best thing is climbing to the top of the tower, there are two lifts if you have trouble with lots of... This place is a "Must-Visit" while in Prague. I recommend to take the Old Town House tour. Ours with Daniel and we got to see all the rooms, halls, and cellars while we received a lot of information of the buildings' history and many fun facts. The Astronomical clock attracts many people who gather by the hundreds by the clock... More

I loved the clock which has a little show on the hour. There is a lift to the top but limited space to walk around the edge of the clock tower. The views were great. Very hot day and busy.

Really worth while getting up early to see the clock before the hoards of people. Visited shortly after 8am and very few people about, there was a bride posing for her photos. History of it is fascinating.

This is a must when you visit Prague. I would say this is the most popular sight to see. Particularly busy when the clock is due to strike the hour. In fact it can get so packed you can hardly move. It's a fantastic medieval timepiece. So ornate and a little bit sinister with the sculptures. When the clock strikes... More

Neighborhood Profile
Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighborhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.
