The Old Town Hall is one of the most significant monuments in the Czech Republic. It was established in 1338 as the administrative seat for Prague's Old Town. Now, it is mainly used for the ceremonial purposes of the capital city, Prague. The historical town hall consists of a set of five medieval houses, the corner of which is adorned with a historical astronomical clock, a gothic oriel window and a massive rectangular tower. The lookout gallery on the town hall tower offers the most beautiful view of Prague. A tour of the historical halls in the Old Town Hall is a unique experience. The expensively decorated rooms date from various periods and are examples of the remarkable development of the town hall complex. The guided tours in various languages are organised in half-hourly intervals.

I saw it in the day time so I have no idea how it is at night... maybe a little bit more romantic ))) Nice idea from the past to remind every hour what is important in our life.

Lots of people gather around the clock to see it change on the hour. Lots of food and drink stalls dotted around. The clock is an amazing piece of architecture which definatly is a must see.

A must see, the clock is the oldest working astronomical clock it sets off on the hour between 9am and 9pm. (Beware it is due to undergo renovation work throughout March 2017) The town hall has an information centre, you can purchase public transport tickets here. There are some rooms you have to pay to see, however, I went into... More

As above really! Again, as with all of Prague the architecture is beautiful but the clock is a real disappointment and very busy with hundreds of people queuing to see it on the hour! Maybe a novelty for some but not for me.

Of course it is "just" a clock that seems a bit weird. It is located in the main square of Prague at at the bottom of a beautiful tower. But if you take the guided tour, you will learn a lot about the origin and the dramatic story about the maker. It is free, it take only a few minutes... More

This is by far the most happening spot in the Prague. It is a melting pot of activity with people from all over the globe coming together to take in the sites.

The crowds swell here on the hour because that is when this magnificent clock strikes. Watch your purse or wallet for pick pockets. The Tyn church is beautiful and the feel of this square is energetic yet quaint. Don't miss.

I always like to climb a tower of some kind when exploring a new city, and the Astronomical Clock tower is a good central option in Prague. The queues in the day stretched out a bit, but you don’t have to buy the tickets next to the actual clock so save the queueing. Alternatively, we went up around 6.30pm and... More

There is a small elevator but I would suggest taking the stairs, it will be quicker if there are crowds. Also the upper landing is narrow, allowing only 2 people to cross paths. The view is great but would not be fun on crowded days.

Staying in Stare Mesto (Old Town)

Neighborhood Profile
Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighborhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.
