The Old Town Hall is one of the most significant monuments in the Czech Republic. It was established in 1338 as the administrative seat for Prague's Old Town. Now, it is mainly used for the ceremonial purposes of the capital city, Prague. The historical town hall consists of a set of five medieval houses, the corner of which is adorned with a historical astronomical clock, a gothic oriel window and a massive rectangular tower. The lookout gallery on the town hall tower offers the most beautiful view of Prague. A tour of the historical halls in the Old Town Hall is a unique experience. The expensively decorated rooms date from various periods and are examples of the remarkable development of the town hall complex. The guided tours in various languages are organised in half-hourly intervals.

We went to this watch with a free walking tour and an amazingly knowledgeable guide, Mr. V. The history and importance of the clock becomes real once all the parts of the clock are explained as well as the symbolism of all the decorations. Be there on time, watch for pickpocketting and enjoy the short show that reminds us that... More

I enjoyed the lighting festival took place at the old town at the night, as well you can enjoy a lot of underground music and on the other side is the astronomical clock is really interesting.

Hi, I passed the first day by at 15:20 or something like that and thought that was very pretty but as everybody else was curious about coming at rush hour. Came back next day, around 12:55 and the square was full of people. I though that the clock would be very espectacular but I didn't see anything worth going at... More

This is a pretty small clock and you have to be watching carefully to see it. The saints come out each hour. Just look for the crowd gathering just off the main part of the square. It is amazing when you think of when this was built and what all it represents. Was missing some parts when we were there.

The clock in itself is probably amazing but it's performance is totally underwhelming in terms of something to watch. As our guide said, "the most underrated tourist attraction ever"!

A must see of course. Crazy crowded especially at the top of the hour. Not to be missed. Careful with the pickpockets

The clock tower is fascinating read up so you understand how it works before you go Be there on the hour to watch the tower bell sound Pay close attention to the doors as they open the apostles come out and learn the story of the four corners (I liked the skeleton representing time and your reminder about it ticking)

Staying in Stare Mesto (Old Town)

Neighborhood Profile
Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighborhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.
