Neighborhood: Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighborhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.

This place is more of an experience than a standard cocktail bar. You will get a chance to participate in absinth drinking ritual with a cool equipment and great quality liquor. It is a rather rare event as not mamy places will serve you the drink with such a care and attention to details. I would only recommend to keep the drink menu on a table so you know exactly which absinth you are tasting. Also this is a cheap shot, so bear this in mind. But in my opinion it is totally worth it.

What a treat it was on a rainy September day in Prague! Great selection of absinthe, Czech as well as French, Swiss etc. However, as we are here, I only went for Czech varieties and would definitely recommend trying both macerated and distilled version for a full experience. If absinthe alone is a bit much, this charming place also serves selection of cocktails. I’m sure everyone can find something intriguing here and an absintherie is not an experience to be missed in Prague. Young lady serving me was truly knowledgable about her job and I liked everything she recommended. Great, friendly place. Thank you!

Wow! What a cool, quirky bar.
Came here with my friend on our second night in Prague to sit, relax and have some absinthe. I'd never had it before, so found the whole experience quite daunting. I went for the beetle absinthe. I did struggle with every sip because it is of course a very strong drink, but I'd say overall it was an enjoyable experience.
Staff were really friendly and caring, and the atmosphere, the music, the decor was second to none. Would 100% recommend.

Very interesting atmoshpere inside, some portions could even be considered part of an absinthe museum. Try the drink for yourself, maybe you'll like it or maybe like me you'll find it tastes like cologne or fuel for some gas lamp or something else you're not supposed to drink. I'd definitely go for cocktails only if I knew better. The staff is bored and inattentive, this kind of experience which I guess is novel for many people, could surely use much better customer care for better information and increased enjoyment.

This place is nice! We enjoyed the ambience and historical aspect of this old bar. It definitely has it's motif and it's very popular. Stop by and enjoy at taste of the green fairy. They have a very large selection of absinthe and it's made in many different ways. Be careful and pace yourself or take someone trustworthy with you.

Walk through a doorway off the street and you enter a bar decorated in a bohemian style where Oscar Wilde wouldn't look out of place. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful. An acquired taste I think but an experience for anyone.

Spoiler alert: If you're new to absinthe and you just want to have a fun adventure, then read no further. Drinking Absinthe in Prague can be a lot of fun, and its a great way to start experiencing this legendary spirit. Furthermore, the Absintherie is great place to start that experience. The atmosphere is great, and the selection is probably the best you'll find in Prague. But if you want to drink authentic absinthe, then I have a few tips to share. (disclaimer- these tips apply not only to the Absintherie, but are for anyone exploring Absinthe in Prague in general).

1. True absinthe is either green or clear, and should be organic in color. Avoid anything bright green, or any other vivid color. That means they added food coloring.

2. True absinthe will turn cloudy white when you add water to it. They call it the "louche". Anything that does not cloud up, is not true absinthe.

3. True absinthe should not be set on fire. Its a gimmicky bit of theatricality- albeit a fun gimmick.

4. Avoid anything with floating bits the bottle- wormwood, beetles, or otherwise. Again- gimmicky theatricality.

5. Avoid absinthe cocktails, and avoid drinking it straight. Absinthe with water is the classic way to do it. Start with that and branch out from there.

Brands to try: Jade, Vieux Pontarlier, Clandestine, Kübler, St. Antoine, La Grenouille, L'Ancienne. These are all on the menu and very very good.

Before you buy a bottle to take home, I advise that you visit http://www.wormwoodsociety.org for more recommendations and information. I also strongly recommend that you AVOID the site http://www.feeverte.net/ at all costs.

Unfortunately, this place is hard to find...but once you find it jump in and join the fun. The staff are very friendly and willing to educate you in the history of Absinth. They'll also make a few recommendations for you and if you're still undecided, they'll provide you with a few free absinth shots to help. I was pretty surprised that they offered the 'tasters'. I tried 3 different types of absinth before making my purchase.

I know they have another smaller location near Old Town Square...but I recommend you visit the larger location on Jilska. Good luck trying to find it though. I'm just glad I stumbled upon it.

After reading rave recommendations on trip advisor....the boyf and I made a special trip to find this place. We were not disappointed. We drank a range of cocktails (trying out the different types of absinthe, red, green, no 35)...my fav was the berry cocktail and the boyf loved the distilled absinthe which is a showstopper. The bartender was fantastic....he really knows his stuff, is friendly and in great spirits (no pun intended!) His beautiful barmaid is equally lovely. We spent a relaxed hour there, chilling out and taking in the atmosphere and bought some things to bring home. I am not a big drinker and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience...there is something for everyone, absinthe ice cream, coffee, slushies....the location is central, there is no excuse not to go for a drink. But please don't just be one of the tourists that takes pictures with the skeleton out front and leaves.....you are missing out by not trying at least one drink!!
