Karolina took us on a great tour of the city initially then off to the bunker a tram ride away across town (included in the tour price). She told us lots of interesting facts regarding the country and city as a whole from 100's of years ago up until the Velvet Revolution and the collapse of communism in Czechoslovakia. The bunker was quite amazing and the history of how it was used, constructed and maintained was or particular interest. Lots of artifacts down below and the mini museum showing off. It was interesting to hear that it was still used for emergency drills by the local community up until the late 80's to have them trained and prepared for a nuclear attack. Possibly a control mechanism by the government but at least they were prepared, more than can be said for the UK. It was pointed out the poor quality of construction of the bunker as when you get to the far end you can actually hear the traffic outside and also pick up a mobile signal!!. A novelty touch is that you can have your photo taken next to a USSR flag dressed up, a bit of fun. All in all a great tour and very informative and interesting.

I am very interested in the history and events of 20th century so I couldn't miss the opportunity to find out more about life in Czechoslovakia under Soviet occupation. I picked this tour because it also includes bunker visit. The tour took about 2hours and it was the best 2hours of my stay in Prague. First you hear about history and see various monuments and places where revolution took place. The bunker is a maze of a concrete tunnels and you get to try a gas mask and hold AK47. The tour guide was a young student Karolin and she was not only very knowledgeable but passionate too. Can't forget to mention her sense of humor!
