I was lucky enough to do the essential tour with Nico and the WWII tour with Václav a couple of days later. Honestly the best walking tours I've done in any city. I would recommend the essential tour as soon as you arrive in Prague, because as well as showing us the important sights and linking it to the history of Prague from around the 14th century up to the 1990s, we got an insight into the local community in Prague. Perhaps my favourite thing about Nico's tour was that we avoided tourist traps and tacky restaurants for the following days, and were able to experience something of real Czech food, beer and lifestyle.

Vaclav's tour was completely different, and offers a truly remarkable view of Prague's history under Nazi occupation. More than once I had goosebumps and hairs standing up on the back of my neck. It's not for the faint hearted, especially the end of his tour, but it was such a sincere and touching account of the Czech's experience from 1938-45.

Their company is clearly about doing tourism the right way. The six hours I spent with these guys were about developing a respect for this beautiful and intriguing city and not simply treating it as a circus, and it's obvious that they care about their profession and their clients as much as they care about their city.

Vaclav is an amazing guide! I was so impressed with the quality of this tour. Vaclav just knows the city and just has a way to educate without giving you too much information. Stories and context made this so enjoyable. I was first in Prague is 1991 as the age of 11, I have watched the city grow and now understand so much more after this tour. Don't think of this as a free tour, think of it as a way to get a tour from a local who loves the history of the city. I was so please with this experience!

The tour was very insightful and great for the first/second day in Prague to orientate yourself around the city and know the history of the major attractions.
The tour was very well structured, we saw a few places first and ended up in the old town square just as the astronomical clock stricked the hour.
Nico was very insightful and clearly knowledgable, answering all questions from everyone in the group and teaching us the most important czech words.

I thin the best thing about this tour was afterwards we were sent a list of czech restaurants in each part of the city, cafes, bars, museums, galleries and exchange places by email. My partner and I checked out quite a few places on the list, the exchange suggested has the best exchange rates and the descriptions of the restaurants were very accurate! While in old town we decided to go to a restaurant called U Rudolfina, the description on the email said "Typical czech Pivnice with good Pilsner and good food. Czech workers as well as students go there so be prepared for some curious glances when you enter." which was absolutely true! As soon as we stepped in everyone stared at us, but the food and beer was amazing and for great prices.

Overall the tour was really insightful and great to do when we first landed in Prague, the email with the places to go made this tour the best walking tour I have been on. I would recommend this tour to anyone coming toPrague for the first time

I did the free Old Town Tour with Nico. Now I'm a seasoned traveler and I know these tours are not free, you are expected to tip the tour guide at the end. However, I like doing these, because you get to give the amount of the tip based on how good the guide is/was. The normal amount suggested is $10 to $15, but Nico was so good I gave him $20, which is about the amount this tour normally costs. He was energetic, enthusiastic, and extremely knowledgeable. He told us he was half Bolivian and half Czech, so his English was tinged with a small amount of Spanish accent. but he was extremely easy to understand. I highly recommend this tour !!!

My guide was Nick (part owner) and i did the tour on a Tuesday morning at 10am departing the Powder Tower. What an amazing guide, so passionate, knowledgeable, friendly, approachable for questions and informative. We started as a party of 10 and lost 2 en route over the river, we covered a lot, the synagogues, jewish quarter, stumble stones (new one to me, although seen similar plaques in Berlin on walls of houses), memorials, dancing houses and St Cyrils plus lots more.#
Great guide, great tour and I learnt a lot on this one, well worth 2 1/2 to 3 hrs of anyones time, just don't leave without paying a donation to the tour guide.
After all these are a pay what you feel is value and also what you can afford

I took 100 Spires City Tours’ free “WW2 and Communism” walking tour (participants sign up in advance online and pay nothing except for whatever gratuity they feel is warranted, at the end of the tour), and it turned out to be one of the best walking tours I’ve ever taken in all my years of travel to destinations around the world. The group appeared to be smaller than the groups other tour companies were leading, and Kamil, our guide, spoke excellent English, presented his information in a lively, compelling, clear and understandable way, and showed us photos and illustrations that enhanced the experience. I came away with a much better understanding of World War II and Communism events and how they affected Prague and the Czech Republic. It added a lot to my appreciation of Prague during my visit. Thanks to Kamil, I also was inspired, even moved, by many of the stories. I talked to other people on the tour who also agreed it was outstanding. I am still enthusing about it to family and friends. Even if you're not a history buff, you will enjoy this tour, and so will preteens and teens. It is a not-to-be-missed tour if you are in Prague.

My husband and I really enjoyed the WWII and Communism tour. Our guide was Kuba, he was knowledgeable and a good storyteller which I think is important in a guide. He is tall and I appreciates that he spoke loud enough to be heard in the back. We learned a lot about that time period and I highly recommend doing this tour vs just going to the communism museum.

I would strongly recommend booking at least one of these tours while in Prague. We went on the Old Town, Jewish Quarter and Charles Bridge Tour on Saturday morning which covered a lot in 3 hours in a very digestible and entertaining way. Vaclav was a superb tour guide touching on architecture, history and politics on the tour with a funny dry sense of humour. He even gave us a recommendation for lunch close to where the tour finished (John Lennon Wall), giving us an opportunity to sample some of the delicious traditional Czech dishes he had told us about on the tour.

We enjoyed the tour so much that we booked onto Vaclav’s Castle Tour the following morning. Again Vaclav was excellent giving just the right amount of information at each sight and providing more detail whenever you had a question on anything - his knowledge of Prague is encyclopaedic.

After going on one of their tours you are emailed a document with tens of recommendations for bars, restaurants, galleries and other experiences in the city. We incorporated some of these recommendations into the rest of our trip (U Fleku, Cafe Louvre and Cafe Imperial) and had a wonderful time. Having a strong list of recommendations is such a bonus!

Thank you Vaclav for showing us round your city and for all the recommendations we had the best time!

Kamil was absolutely fantastic. Perhaps the best tour guide I’ve ever had in Europe. He gave us a three hour WWII tour of Prague and was so wonderfully engaging and passionate and enticing about his subject. I could not recommend it enough. Kamil’s tour was full of interest. He was brilliant!

You cannot go wrong with booking a tour with 100 Spires. I had the opportunity to go on two separate tours: Castle Tour with Valery, and Old Town with Vaclav. Both guides were very knowledgeable and great storytellers, and indulged me in discussing history and let me share some stories from my home country as well. I warmly recommend booking a tour with them if your are interested in the history of the city.
