Nearly 700 hundred meters long, Wenceslas Square represents the most frequent and buzzing crossroads of the city. The National Museum in the upper part of the square watches over your spending spree in countless shops and retail stores lining the entire square, which ends at Na Příkopě, the most famous shopping street. When tired or broke, you can explore the city's underpasses, which can take you to the Old Town or to the courtyards of art nouveau houses with secret gems of greenery, white benches and rose bushes that provide unexpected peace in the midst of the city. Be sure to pay a visit to the traditional cafés, classic Czech pubs, cinemas and theaters. National Theater near the river has a lot to offer to foreigners. Go to the river bank and enjoy live music and drinks while watching a sunset behind Prague Castle.

This monument is in tribute to Alois Jirásek, a Czech patriot and author who wrote of historical novels and plays as part of the Czech National Revival. Jirasek was a 4 time nominee for a Nobel Prize in literature, although he never won.

The monument is a bronze sculpture of a seated Jirasek as an elderly man. He is staring straight ahead, coincidentally at the dancing house opposite. On his right lap is an open book and his right hand is hovering over it.

A great looking statue ,it honours Czech writer and politician , a revered novelist and nominated for four Nobel Prizes ,he never won but the books he penned are a lasting legacy to the great mans place in Czech literary circles ,well worth checking out if you're near Masarykovo Namesti.

This is a lovely statue of Alois Jirasek, the Czech writer.
The statue is quite imposing and, quite frankly - we had a better time looking at it than at the nearby "Dancing House".

The statue of Alois Jirasek is a sculpture made by Karel Pokorný and Jaroslav Fragner. It´s located in front of the Dancing House. People actually pay more attention to the dancing house than the statue.
