Neighborhood: Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighborhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.

It looks like the reviewers are getting this location confused with the Don Giovanni Theater which is on the other side of town. This particular theater is closed and has been for some time. They no longer do any shows here. They still have the photos up from the show but no one manages it anymore (we know for a fact as we tried to go at the "allotted time" - shows used to be at 7 and 9 and a local told us so after we had asked about the show.) So some of the photos that are attached here are actually for the other theater. Just an FYI.

My wife, mother-in-law and I thought the Marionette Theater production of Don Giovanni was fabulous. I never thought there could be so much humor in Mozart's opera of the famous libertine. The Commendatore was a complete surprise!

The previous review was basically correct, but you know Prague is the Marionette and porn capital of Europe, and if you do not partake in the other one, do the Marionette Theatre. It is not fine art for sure, but in between the Asian digital cameras, it was an interesting time and we still enjoyed it for what it is! If you want fine opera, go to Vienna.
The seating was fine, just use the restroom before you arrive here. It still is worth the time and the experience.

We had vouchers to the National Marionette Theater - which is DIFFERENT (and from what I understand, a better production) than the marionette theater (this page). We did not realize our mistake and when we gave our tickets to the cashier- he said nothing and made us pay full price. When i went back the next day to get our money back- they played dumb. Cant say i expected anything else. The production was fine. But it is clear that this place exists off the intentional confusion they create. And by their prominant location. In this case they lied. Don't deal with these people.

While in Prague for a week vacation, I was intrigued with the history of the marionettes, and wanted to see one of the many advertised shows in Prague. I selected the Don Giovanni show, as it seems the most popular, and seeing as Mozart wrote this show for Prague, thought it would be interesting. What an absolute joke. Most of the show consisted of hand puppets, not marionnets, whose condition is horrendous due to the hitting the puppets into one another, throwing them down the stairs, and against the wall - all in a meager attempt to get a laugh. Their face pain is worn off, giving the impression of missing noses and mouths, the hair is a disaster, and the show did not have any of the special set details as viewable on the website (even the famous feather hat is not on the Don Giovanni puppet). The theatre was run down, up in an attic, and the rest rooms are disgusting (missing toilet seats and toilet paper). I noticed the man in front of me nodding off during the show, and wished I could have done the same. Basically it was one hour of puppets hitting each other, lifting up skirts, and making out. If you like the idea of the Three Stooges meets Benny Hill, then you may find this show interesting, but I doubt it. A complete waste of money.
Note: in the photo I included, the puppet in the blue dress had a wire holding her head on as I'm guessing with all the abuse of these puppets, it fell off. Also, Don Giovanni is in the back, hitting his head on the backdrop. The clothes and the face paint were worn and an absolute mess.

Tourist trap,,, pay 590 Koruns, go up a steep stairway into the attic of a building. You are then locked in during the performance. I really hoped for this to be entertaining, but it jst fellshort of expectations.. with so much to see outside this beautiful city,,, you can skip this one.

I went to see Don Giovanni recently, only knowing it would be performed by marionettes and, to be honest, not with high expectations. However, we were all so surprised at what an entertaining show it proved to be and the skill and timing of the puppeteers was amazing. This is probably not a venue for the serious opera buff, but we were thoroughly amused and entertained. Be warned, the wooden seats are very hard! Our party were given (Ikea) cushions which proved to be very welcome.

We took our three young children to see the Don Giovanni show. It was quite long but entertaining. They have a short intermission in the middle to give you a little break. Our kids really enjoyed the show and it was their favorite thing we did in Prague. The only negative is the seats are old and not very comfortable.

I am no snob but I have been to my fair share of theaters and thought I would try something a little different. I took my girlfriend to see this show which I regret as it was a complete waste of time and money.

We came there thinking atleast there would be a hint of live music but everything was prerecorded. Which set the mood and tone. To this end there were a few people who enjoyed it which for the life of me we couldn't understand but there were also people who fell asleep, some of them right next to us.

All in all the worst theater experience I've had anywhere in the world. Highly over priced even for tourists.

If you love opera and marionettes, you may like this one. We watched Don Giovanni, hoping that it would be a refreshing and unique experience, but came away disappointed. The music is canned, and the show seems largely to be aimed at kids with its slapstick humour. There is no innovation in the marionette performance or in stagecraft either. Maybe kids would like it, but it was quite boring after a while.
