In terms of cost, cocktails worked out to be around CZK250 (around £10) which is reasonable. We had good guidance through the menu and tried different positions, so we highly recommend trying "Alice in Wonderland" and "Penicilline." We came here on the back of reviews on a Sunday night and we chose the 'choose your fate' option, which was apparently the last one available (at 9pm, odd!) We had a little man run in with a box full of smoke and told us to choose a tarot card. We were then told what our cocktail would be. I enjoyed mine, my boyfriend didn't want the whisky based one he was told he'd get so they made him something else which he enjoyed. We were sat in a strange little room to the right, which was empty as the main bar was full so the atmosphere was a bit strange. Weird cover music of rock songs put us off staying past the one so we left. A fun idea, and maybe the atmosphere would be better in the main bar, but would recommend for at least one for the novelty.

Can't understand the overly positive reviews for this place. There are several things which are just plain wrong about the bar. Some minor thing is seats which may looked nice but were quite uncomfortable. We were immediately off-put by the high prices for the drinks. Normal beer was just about triple to four times as expensive as the average beer price in bars close by. We tried one of the cocktails in hopes of finding good value there. But even for such a ridiculous high price we got only a little amount which was barely a mediocre cocktail.
The little cherry on top was the fact that we had to wait 20 minutes for one cocktail and two small bottled beers in an almost empty bar basically next to the bartender.
Worst bar experience we had in Prague. Can only highly discourage people going there.

Dear Nicoco, we do feel sad for your experience in our bar. As for the price of the beer, we do inform our guests in advance about the reason why we decided to rise to such levels the prices for beer. That`s because we do not wish to promote drinking beer in our bar, and we do try to discourage this from happening. We do sell only bottles beer and drinking a beer in a bottle in our bar will definitely be, for a beer lover, a lesser experience compared to drinking one in any of the many traditional Czech pubs in Prague. We are a cocktail bar and we do our best to give a great experience to everyone that walks through our doors. That is probably the reason why "the overly positive reviews for this place". Once again, we are very sad to ready about your experience and we hope your next Prague experience to be a more positive one. For that we are leaving here for you a few recommendations in regards with places where you might have a better beer experience. Our favorite pub is "U Vojevodu". Besides that we recommend visiting : " U Pinkasu" , " Lokal" , "Dva Kohouti" , "Černá Svině" and "Andělský Pivovar" Thank you for your visit and we are wishing you a wonderful day.

Absolutely a must in the town, it’s one of the best bars in Prague. The cozy atmosphere, the wide selection of cocktails and liquors makes this place the perfect choice if you want to spend your evening enjoying an amazing drink. The guys that work there are really nice, especially David and Tina. They will help you to choose the cocktail that mostly fits your taste. What to say...if you are in Prague you should definitely go at The Alchemist!

Really liked this place. Quirky, from the decor, to the drinks, to the music. Great concept. We didn’t do the Tarot cards and just ordered from the drinks menu. Definitely worth a visit.
Why only 4 stars? The drink prices are very pricey when compared with other local bars. You are paying for the uniqueness of the bar. If you ok with that, definitely go, but probably just for one.

Today we were in the Alchemist Bar in the center of Prague (near Mustek). Up the stairs, it was easy to get a table and the waiter took good care of the seating. The location is stylish, quite dark but the overall concept fits. The music was also quite good. When we were there (at least at that time), the clientele was mostly between 20 (maybe younger?!?) and 30 years old.
The menu is well laid out and offers a nice background story. I particularly liked the printed cuts in it.
The cocktail recipes were very daring and worthy of the theme and although I know a lot about drinks, some of the ingredients were quite exotic and difficult to assess. In principle, that's not a bad thing, but it makes it difficult to get an idea of what the cocktail might taste like. It's a shame, because some cocktails are an adventure that you don't always want to take. On top of that, the drinks aren't exactly cheap. You can easily pay around 12 EUR for a good cocktail in the city, even in Germany.
We had a "Death by Penicillin" and a "Heaven Mountain". With the former, I thought it was a little daring to mix a 10-year-old Laphroaig, because it was dominated by peat and medicinal notes. The drink mostly added sour and lemony notes to the whiskey, which wasn't bad, but it wasn't special either. I didn't really like the taste of Heaven Mountain.
This brings us to the conclusion: I won't be visiting the bar again. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio is not particularly good. OK, the location is fine, the ingredients are high quality, but good and good doesn't necessarily make very good, in this case it's more mediocre. The main reason is the small amount of cocktail. The price is by no means justified, if only because the two drinks tasted good and weren't amazing. There are other bars in Prague with a similar ambience and better drinks for the same price.

Unique and charming venue. We're 2 couples in our 60s that visited early in the evening, before it got crowded. They have an interesting menu of drinks, with something for everyone. Our server was kind, polite, attentive and engaging, even though we weren't the typical customers.
The drinks were good, too. We appreciated the lovely furniture.

Very cool staff, especially Vidmar. Cosy vintage mixed with music from all decades. Very professional barkeeper always open to special requests (ask for recommendation about Old Fashioned) Definitely a must visit for cocktail lovers.

My wife and I love to visit Cocktail bars whenever we hear about them. The Alchemist Bar serendipitously came up when we were conducting a search in Prague for the “Alchemy tour” Fantastic!! It had an old school charm - almost like a “Speakeasy” of Decades ago. The staff were awesome, “welcomers,” waitresses, and the Bar Tenders were all super friendly, very knowledgeable, and quick to take care of all their guests. We were shown to our table and given a leather menu that contained approximately 20 signature cocktails and entertaining cocktail philosophy on each page. We tried 4 different cocktails between the two of us over about 90 minutes and completely enjoyed the whole experience. The bartender/mixologist was young, but extremely talented and entertaining! They don’t open until 7 PM, so we had to plan for dinner before we headed here.

This place offers interesting cocktails and nice atmosphere. We’ve been there for a last drink during NYE. It’s a pity that besides the good quality of cocktails this place seemed to us quite unfair. We didn’t realize something we didn’t drink had been added to the bill.

Dear Alessio, Your review we consider it far from being true. You are implying that we are not being honest and that we ended up charging you extra. A review like this one could leave a dark stain on our image and that is something we work hard to keep it clean. If you did not realized, The Alchemist Bar was one of the few bars in Prague that on the New Year`s Eve did not impose any entry fee and did not increase the prices on our menu. Most probably we were the only Bar in the center of Prague to do so. We decided to go over the night as we usually do, trying our best to provide a good and fair experience to all of our guests. We are deeply saddened by your review and especially the title of the review. That because i am well aware of the team i have in my bar and i can proudly say it loud and clear that the team i have now and the same team that served you in NYE is made of clear, honest, hardworking and beautiful people.
