About
Imagine an abandoned temple in the rainforest that gradually absorbs the surrounding vegetation. Trees grow into the walls, defenseless sculptures are surrounded by lianas... And now imagine that butterflies live and fly in such a place. Hundreds and hundreds of them. The most beautiful butterfly species on our planet! You do not have to look for such a place in the jungle of South America or Far Asia, but right in the center of Prague. This is Papilonia – the butterfly house of Prague.

Nearly 700 hundred meters long, Wenceslas Square represents the most frequent and buzzing crossroads of the city. The National Museum in the upper part of the square watches over your spending spree in countless shops and retail stores lining the entire square, which ends at Na Příkopě, the most famous shopping street. When tired or broke, you can explore the city's underpasses, which can take you to the Old Town or to the courtyards of art nouveau houses with secret gems of greenery, white benches and rose bushes that provide unexpected peace in the midst of the city. Be sure to pay a visit to the traditional cafés, classic Czech pubs, cinemas and theaters. National Theater near the river has a lot to offer to foreigners. Go to the river bank and enjoy live music and drinks while watching a sunset behind Prague Castle.

Located on the bottom floor on Hamleys toy shop. The actual butterfly room was tiny and quite crowded. The butterflies were all flying around looking anxious as there are too many butterflies for the small space. Completely unsupervised room so children running around, people picking up the butterflies etc which is really harmful for them and can kill them. The room was so plastic and obviously not a suitable replica for the natural habitat so lots of butterflies sat on artificial lights. Not nearly enough greenery. Also a bit of a rip off.
If you’ve visited other butterfly houses you’ll be disappointed. Left in about ten minutes with a feeling of sadness for the poor butterflies.

In the centre of Prague you can visit a butterfly kingdom. It is located inside the toy store Hamleys (it was very surprising for me that in that place was located butterfly garden). The place was not big. It looked like a jungle with plants and waterfall and butterflies flew freely all around. They weren't affraid of people and even they sat on their shoulders. It was so lovely.
I had the same experience like a person, who wrote a review earlier. I saw several dead butterflies lying on the stones. It was sad, but it was a cyrcle of life.
Because there was 80% humidity, it wasn't easy to take pictures during few first minutes, before the camera stopped fogging.
Admission was 150,- CZK per adult and 100,- CZK per child.

Only found out about this place as advertised on the Hop on Hop Off tour bus (with a discount!) and found out it was inside Hamleys which is easy to find in town. Went in and although very small it’s packed with a variety of wonderful butterflies and they are very friendly. Worth visiting for everyone of all ages. Very pleasant short visit!

Small indoor area filled with lovely colourful tropical butterflies. Located at a toy shop Hamleys. Inside the room there is a quite high temperature (around 26°C, tropical environment), but you can leave your belongings at lockers outside the room. Visit is not limited by time, we spent there about an hour taking photos, watching the colours and beauty of the butterflies. Great experience.

It's not realy expensive but also not worthy to see. If you already know the Butterfly House in the Luisenpark Mannheim-Germany you will be disapointed here.
It's a small space where you have seen the most within 10-15minutes.
The Butterflys are definetly beautyful but it's definetly not a "must see" for me.

Its not a stand alone museum, its actually part of a major toy store called “Hamleys”
Its well organized but small and hot so I don’t think anyone can spend more than 20 minutes in it.
For average tourist It’s worth a visit if u have not been to something similar somewhere else.
Maybe those interested in zoology or nature etc.... could find it more interesting
Other museums or rooms available on site such as mirror maze, lego etc...

I recently visited this attraction with my partner. It is in the basement of a huge toy store and while the butterflies were indeed beautiful and interesting-especially the ones with the large eye on them. What disheartened me was the dead ones on the floor. The space is quite small, but there are many butterflies flying around. If you are visiting the store it is worth a look, but otherwise not highly recommended.

Having been to a real butterfly centre in the past, this was a huge disappointment. Its very small, hardly anything to see, we were in and out within minutes. Overpriced. There are plenty of cool things to do in prague but this isnt one of them. We felt ripped off.

We loved this place, extremely hot inside. Loads of butterflies 🦋 lots of information. Only a small place. Butterflies are flying all round you they will also land on you. But watch where you put your feet.

Czy niepełnosprawni na wózku elektrycznym mogą bez problemu wjechać do środka? Czy wystawa jest na różnych piętrach? Czy jest winda?

Dear Dominik,
Thank you for your question.
Yes, access to Papilonia is wheelchair accessible and even moving around the flight zone in a wheelchair is easily possible.
After entering Hamleys, I recommend you to get to the opposite side with lifts (completely cross the ground floor from the entrance) and in the lift press "-1". This way you avoid escalators.
We look forward to your visit!
