Your experience in Prague will never be complete if you do not see it from the top. These gardens look promising. But once you enter you quickly realise that there aren’t that many beautiful plants, and those that are there are chemically treated. There are more rubbish bins and closed gates than flowers. Yes, the views are nice, but you can get equally stunning views — for free — just on your way up to Prague castle. Skip this attraction. The Prague botanical gardens are much more worth it, and free!

A MUST SEE! Stunning beauty. I wasn’t going to go because of the height of the walk, but so glad I did. This was a highlight of our trip. The gardens are gorgeous, roses are impactful. There are places to sit and recoup. The views are stunning, almost 360. Witnessed a wedding below.

The garden is located below the Castle area. You pay 50 CZK (~2€) as an entrance fee. The lady selling tickets in the "ticket-office" house was one of the most authentic Czech sights we've seen :D The garden is rather small, took us less than an hour to go around. But it is quiet, not overcrowded and has quite some picturesque views (especially recommended for profile pictures :D)

The Gardens Below Prague Castle are stunning. There are a number of impressive parks and gardens in the city, but this one is among the best. With multiple levels available for exploring, you can ascend the stairs up the middle, stopping along the way to enjoy different viewpoints of Prague. The best view is obviously at the very top where there is a tower-like structure that can be climbed via staircase (you can't go inside of it, however). This spot is best to visit during fall and spring for the weather and the foliage (check their website for hours and dates of operation before you go). Also bring at least 200 Czech Koruna cash as there is an entrance fee you must pay at a window at the very bottom of the garden.

We came upon this by accident on the way home from another location. My Czech partner has lived all her life in Prague but never been in these gardens before. Admission is very reasonable, as said by other commenters there are many terraces and corners giving the gardens an intimate and private feel. So many interesting plants and the grape vines and figs are doing well. Not suitable for those who find stairs a problem. Good views over Prague city, and closer to hand into the beautiful gardens of the Polish Embassy. (This has several fountains, and two life size horse sculptures which can be seen well from the side access of the embassy). It was annoying that the lower gardens have no connection with the upper garden of the castle "for security reasons". Toilets are situated next to the ticket desk.

It took us two day to locate the gardens. The first day we were exhausted from a full day of sight seeing and gave up. Determined to visit the gardens we headed out in the morning, luckily we were refreshed and had fresh legs. The entrance is very plain and you will easily pass it, so keep your eyes opened. It’s 100 czk to enter the garden and so worth the price. We spent over an hour exploring the gardens. Make sure to bring water and a good camera. Be prepared to climb many stairs, we found that starting our day at the garden was a good decision your legs will thank you for this. There are 5 terrace style gardens with benches at most inclines. I found the gardens incredibly beautiful and a wonderful respite from the crowded streets of Prague. There are not many people here maybe due to the difficulty of locating the gardens. If you have time please stop by and pay the gardens a visit. It is a small fee to pay to ensure that these gardens are well maintained.

These gardens are not on the main tourist area in Lesser potential but situated down a side street which perhaps explains why they are not as popular as the Vrtba gardens nearby. When I visited with my partner several of the gardens were closed but what was open was nice and when you walk up the stairs you can get a nice overview of Prague.

Normally you can go through this gardens to Prague Castle, but unfortunately when I was here, two of four gardens were under renovation and closed. However it was still a very nice visit. Get ready for A LOT of stairs, but the view of Prague red roofs from the top is really nice. Entrance fee is 80,-CZK per adult. Not only Vrtbovská garden but this gardens as well are popular for wedding photos.

Beautiful views, amazing plants and layout. Steep climb not suitable for some and it currently doesn't connect up top with the Prague Castle, despite being some 20 meters from it.

We arrived via Metro to explore Prague castle, but managed to take a wrong turning and found ourselves in Valdstejnska - where we discovered the pretty-much-hidden entrance to the Gardens Below Prague Castle. What a treat they proved to be. The gardens were created in the 17th and 18th centuries and are a beautiful set of interconnected terraces with fantastic views across the city. Very few people seemed to know they were here because it was pretty much deserted when we arrived - and yet it's well worth a bit of a detour. There are lots of steps to climb, as the terraces are quite steep, but worth persevering. The gardens are full of fountains and little follies with a renaissance feel. We ended up spending more than an hour wandering through the gardens and enjoying the peace and tranquillity before embarking further up the hill to Prague Castle itself. Apparently, there used to be a passage between the gardens and the Castle, but that's now closed, so once you've climbed to the top of the gardens - just below the Castle ramparts - you do have to go right down to the bottom again to climb up to the Castle. This was an unexpected discovery and we were glad we made it.
