Neighborhood: Malá Strana (Little Quarter)
Malá Strana is one of the oldest and the most beautiful neighborhoods in the city. Nestled underneath Prague Castle it was once a part of the Kings route taken by future kings on their way to coronation - originating in the Old Town, crossing Charles Bridge and leading to Saint Vitus Cathedral. Cobblestone streets are lined with picturesque medieval houses, remarkable palaces, churches, kitsch shops and restaurants. Do not hesitate to turn a corner into any narrow street. You will suddenly find yourself in a calm and charming neighborhood full of hidden gardens, parks with peacocks, fruit trees and ponds. As the neighborhood is a home to Czech Parliament and many ministries, you can also run into well-dressed officials. If you are thirsty or hungry, it is the right place to be. Restaurants offer delicious traditional food and of course, the best Czech beers.

Trendy , but not original to Prague.
Over the last 20 years with the tourism boom, quirky little things like this started to appear. I have seen it in Paris before I saw it in Prague.
It is cute, it is romantic, it is damaging.
The damaging part: the weight of the locks on the railing and the metal keys tossed into the water below as a part of the ritual.
The city is periodically removing the locks . Exercise in futility .....

Apparently there is no escape from the padlocks littering the bridges of the world. Sometimes the weight of the things causes pieces of bridge to fall away, like what happened in Paris. Nice gesture, but is it really necessary? Anyway. Enough grumping. If you need to come back to Prague, put a lock on the bridge and keep the key. Remove it when you're old and toothless.

We have been to Lover’s bridges in Italy and France. This one is the same but it is a must see. I just love looking at all the locks and wondering “is the couple still together?

Now that the Segway was banned in Prague - at least I haven't seen any in September-could someone please stop the madness with the padlocks on bridges.
They are not new at this location, the cute little bridge over Certovka, but I also noticed them during this visit at the end of the Charles bridge.
Clearly not much can be done about the annoying selfies sticks, but what about those padlocks? Who started all this crazy stuff?
I am afraid they are here to stay...price to pay for tourism....

I mean, did these people all actually bring these locks with them to Prague with this in mind? They must have visited their local hardware store and made this purchase thinking they'd be ... what? Cool? Romantic? Were none of them able to conceive of calling attention to their love with any imagination at all? Did they all take selfies in the act?
Whomever is in charge has obviously caught on, as you can tell by looking at the photos. The grill work fills up and a mere four bolts is all it takes to remove the whole shebang. Do they take it to the landfill? Melt it down? Does someone with a bolt cutter go at it?
I dunno ...

Beautiful place to admire the view and add a lock to the railings. Walked here from John Lennon pub.

No locks?! We took our lock to find all the locks had been removed? We put our lock on and took it back off. Very disappointed.

A couple of minutes away from the Charles bridge. The river views were nice, but when we were there they've just removed all the locks, so we couldn't even guess it's the Lover's bridge :)

On the way to John lennon wall. Neither of these sites is really worth going out of your way for, but if crossing the Charles bridge then stop by for a foto op.

An absoloute must for anyone who is a fan of padlocks or bridges. For me as a fan of both padlocks and bridges this was pne of the highlights of Prague.
The range of padlocks is outstanding for anyone who has a general or in depth experience with different varieties of padlocks of the world
Dont forget to visit your hardware store before catching the plane. Oh, and dont forget a sharpie pen!
