The area
Address
Neighborhood: Nove Mesto (New Town)
Nearly 700 hundred meters long, Wenceslas Square represents the most frequent and buzzing crossroads of the city. The National Museum in the upper part of the square watches over your spending spree in countless shops and retail stores lining the entire square, which ends at Na Příkopě, the most famous shopping street. When tired or broke, you can explore the city's underpasses, which can take you to the Old Town or to the courtyards of art nouveau houses with secret gems of greenery, white benches and rose bushes that provide unexpected peace in the midst of the city. Be sure to pay a visit to the traditional cafés, classic Czech pubs, cinemas and theaters. National Theater near the river has a lot to offer to foreigners. Go to the river bank and enjoy live music and drinks while watching a sunset behind Prague Castle.

Interactive way to learn about the history of cinema
The museum is quite small but definitely worth a visit! The staff is also super helpful. My favorite part was the sound recording studio where we could create our own foley effects. I recommend to actually try everything that the museum has to offer, and not just speed-walk through the rooms, to get the full experience. This could be a fun place to visit with a small friend group.

small, but it's packed with interactive exhibits that make it a lot of fun to explore
This NaFilM: National film museum is a great secret find! It's small, but it's packed with interactive exhibits that make it a lot of fun to explore. The staff are super friendly and the shop is lovely. You can easily spend an hour or two here, but it's better to go when there are fewer people around so you can really take your time. It's an amazing experience that I would highly recommend to anyone interested in film or movies, or whoever likes to play around, really! 5/5 stars.

    Best museum in Prague
We had a lovely experience at the NAFilm museum. They do a great job at making film technique and history accessible, fun and exciting. There’s a lot of activities you can do yourself and the staff help explain the context and idea behind it. You can feel that they’re incredibly passionate about what they’re doing. Would recommend for everybody who are film interested and/or like interactive museums.

I took my students for a "treat" - a tour at the museum of film: NaFilM!
We spent over 2 hours exploring the museum, listening to the guide who was thorough and engaging, as well as getting a chance to see, touch, interact and create wonderful movies of our own!

The museum packs a plethora of exhibits with a diverse and unique experience, which for me as a teacher, enables to see my students from a different point of view which I wouldn't get a chance to in our classroom.

I highly recommend other teachers to come visit with their students, or own their own, and take notes. This was an educating experience. Thank you so much for a wonderful time!

We had a fantastic time at this museum with our two children, it is very interactive and fun!! The kids especially loved creating their own sounds to a movie and loved making a stop motion movie. The staff is very friendly and helpful, they will guide you through the museum and explain everything and assist. We didn't want to leave!! Our kids have asked multiple times if they can go back! I would highly, highly recommend this experience for a whole family or any film enthusiasts out there!

I highly recommend this Museum for anyone who is interested in films. The staff is very helpful and explains alot, but also leaves enough space to discover the Museum in your own pace. There are many experiments which you can do by yourself.

Lot's of fun, even for those who "know the stuff".
I went with my 19 yo daughter, and we mostly enjoyed the time when we recorded our own soundtrack to an old "horror" movie, as well as when we shot our [very] short stop-motion animation.
Exhibits are all working, even when they are quite complicated.
Very friendly stuff!

Thank you, it's good to hear that even for an audience like yourselves the museum offers a great experience! You are right indeed, interactive museums struggle sometimes with having everything in shape, so we really love the fact you appreciate everything works and is taken care of by friendly staff (we're going to pass that on!.).

Loved it! The museum has a great balance of interactivity and learning about film history. I enjoyed getting to learn about the different techniques used in stop motion films, as well as getting to make my own! The environment is cozy and relaxed, so it’s easy to have fun and learn. The staff is very welcoming, friendly, and passionate about film. Definitely a highlight of my trip to Prague!

A very well-equipped museum located in the very center of Prague. First, I appreciate the helpful and nice staff that was ready to help any time we needed. Second, it was very enjoyable to explore all the interactive staff (virtual reality, creating our own sounds for a movie, creating our own animated movie that you get by email later...) - it was fun for both me and the children. Third, you can also have a coffee, sit down, relax and possibly leave a note on the wall. Fourth, the museum has been awarded by Czech Lion movie award.

Excellent initiative this Cinema Museum. A real surprise. The young leaders are very welcoming and attentive, they will guide you through the various interactive exercises.
Add sound to your film, build your own animation after watching the meticulous work of the animators at Disney,
Take your time, look carefully at each room, and don't miss seeing the wonderful animations in the projection room. A marvel in the pure tradition of Czech animation which has always been a pioneer in the field.
A museum not to be missed!

While Prague is popular for its delicious beer and amazing castles, one must not overlook its museums. Me and my girlfriend stumbled upon the National Film Museum one sunny day as we were strolling through the Franciscan Garden in Prague 1. As we are both movie enthusiasts we decided to go in and were not disappointed.

On the contrary, the museum is one of Prague's hidden gems. Due to the fact that more than half of the exhibits are interactive, visiting the film museum makes for a fun and educational experience, offering visitors the opportunity to learn more about how movies were made back in the days. For instance, you can create your own movie soundtrack - this was also our favourite part.

Although it's not very popular amongst tourists, maybe because of its location (it's enclosed in the Franciscan Garden) or the lack of promo, make time for a visit here next time you come to Prague.

And even more that you didn't have to regret your curiosity - but enjoyed it fully! Hopefully you'll be an inspiration for many more to come .)

This is a great opportunity for children and adults as well to get some insight into the physics of sight and movie history. I liked the model train casting shades of silhouettes on walls. The staff is young and very helpful.

The museum is an interactive story about optical principles of cinema like the laterna magica, stroboscope, zootrope etc. All of the exhibits let you play with them, as an adult, you can get an insight to how recording movies works and you can be sure that your kids will not be bored. There are flashing lights and repetitive sounds, so of you have epilepsy etc... don't go there. They have a small café/bar in case you have to wait for your friends who get drawn into the exhibition for too long, which happened to me. The staff are students of movie theory/production and will explain everything in Czech and English.

Just go there and have fun.
