Neighborhood: Nove Mesto (New Town)
Nearly 700 hundred meters long, Wenceslas Square represents the most frequent and buzzing crossroads of the city. The National Museum in the upper part of the square watches over your spending spree in countless shops and retail stores lining the entire square, which ends at Na Příkopě, the most famous shopping street. When tired or broke, you can explore the city's underpasses, which can take you to the Old Town or to the courtyards of art nouveau houses with secret gems of greenery, white benches and rose bushes that provide unexpected peace in the midst of the city. Be sure to pay a visit to the traditional cafés, classic Czech pubs, cinemas and theaters. National Theater near the river has a lot to offer to foreigners. Go to the river bank and enjoy live music and drinks while watching a sunset behind Prague Castle.

- Petra M1 contributionMagic place! An amazing spot, right in the center of Prague, just beside the beautiful Franciscan Garden. It is a great place for families with kids as well as for all film enthusiasts, who want to immerse themselves in the magic of the film craft. We loved its interactivity, you can actively experience everything. The kids were excited especially about the process of creating sounds for cartoons and creating their own animated movie. We also appreciate very friendly staff and their helpfulness, they willingly explained all the exhibits and activities. They are real enthusiastics :-)!We are so happy to hear that our place had a magical effect on you! Thank you for your active participation in the experience and for your appreciation of the work of our educators who literally live for film. Each room is an opportunity to test stages of this route, accompanied by very friendly young people who guide us and spot us with good humor. I highly recommend it! But don't expect to see references to more recent films or actors... that's perhaps what's missing.Bonjour de notre musée! Nous vous remercions de votre commentaire et de votre recommandation à d'autres personnes. Nous sommes heureux que notre personnel ait rendu votre visite agréable. The students thoroughly enjoyed it and talked about it the whole way back to school. We are very glad that you took away from our museum an experience that lasted even after leaving our exhibition. As a movie lover, I enjoyed every moment I was in there! The staff was really friendly and explained us everything really nicely plus don’t miss the VR experience please.Thank you very much for your nice feedback, we are so glad that you had such a great time in our exhibition! - CraigSheffield, United Kingdom4 contributionsA great experience for film loversA fantastic museum in which to spend an hour or two while you're in Prague. I hold a PhD in film and found plenty to enjoy and lots I didn't know! The top floor is dedicated to the early history and technology of cinema (magic lanterns, phantasmagoria, projectors, foley, etc.) while the lower floor is dedicated to more culturally specific subjects – at the time of our visit, there were exhibits on Czech avantgarde and animation. A highlight of my trip was watching a selection of Czech animated shorts in one of the screening rooms (none of which I had seen before). A trip here pairs really well with a visit to the Karel Zeman Museum, which isn't too far away – very easy to do both in a day. There is also an extra VR experience that we didn't pay extra for, not because we weren't interested but because both my partner and myself are horrendously short sighted and VR tends not to work very well! Highly recommended. We're really glad that the exposition worked so well in combination with your PhD degree :) Film history is full of surprises that we are still discovering and transforming into new ideas. We were pleased to see that you appreciated the animated films you chose, which we find essential, but which are not very well known in the Czech Republic either. Thank you very much for your nice review and I send my regards on behalf of the whole NaFilM team.Written May 16, 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 4, 2024

The staff were absolutely brilliant: engaged, and engaging, and had great English. They really make this museum what it is. We saw the optional extra VR film Darkening, which was like nothing I'd ever experienced. Beautiful and moving. Wonderful.Thank you very much for appreciating the concept of our exhibition and the work of our staff. We are also very happy that the VR film had such a strong effect on you. - Filip H1 contributionA truly interactive museumA really fun and interactive little museum. I went with 2 boys (9 and 11 years) and we all had fun dubbing movies, using the movie projector, experiencing a little VR experience, animating a short film, and everything in between. (Except for the movie screenings, which looked fun but for which we didn't have the patience as this wasn't our only stop that day.) The staff was friendly and it felt like they actually care about movies and the tech behind them. Also, the stop-motion animations that you get to make in the museum, you later get via email. We are so glad you enjoyed all the interactions with your sons at the museum, including the film screenings would have been a visit for the whole afternoon. I took my students for a "treat" - a tour at the museum of film: NaFilM!
We spent over 2 hours exploring the museum, listening to the guide who was thorough and engaging, as well as getting a chance to see, touch, interact and create wonderful movies of our own!
The museum packs a plethora of exhibits with a diverse and unique experience, which for me as a teacher, enables to see my students from a different point of view which I wouldn't get a chance to in our classroom.
I highly recommend other teachers to come visit with their students, or own their own, and take notes. This was an educating experience. Thank you so much for a wonderful time!

The museum is an interactive story about optical principles of cinema like the laterna magica, stroboscope, zootrope etc. All of the exhibits let you play with them, as an adult, you can get an insight to how recording movies works and you can be sure that your kids will not be bored. There are flashing lights and repetitive sounds, so of you have epilepsy etc... don't go there. They have a small café/bar in case you have to wait for your friends who get drawn into the exhibition for too long, which happened to me. The staff are students of movie theory/production and will explain everything in Czech and English.
Just go there and have fun.

We had a fantastic time at this museum with our two children, it is very interactive and fun!! The kids especially loved creating their own sounds to a movie and loved making a stop motion movie. The staff is very friendly and helpful, they will guide you through the museum and explain everything and assist. We didn't want to leave!! Our kids have asked multiple times if they can go back! I would highly, highly recommend this experience for a whole family or any film enthusiasts out there!

We had a lovely experience at the NAFilm museum. They do a great job at making film technique and history accessible, fun and exciting. There’s a lot of activities you can do yourself and the staff help explain the context and idea behind it. You can feel that they’re incredibly passionate about what they’re doing. Would recommend for everybody who are film interested and/or like interactive museums.

I highly recommend this Museum for anyone who is interested in films. The staff is very helpful and explains alot, but also leaves enough space to discover the Museum in your own pace. There are many experiments which you can do by yourself.

This NaFilM: National film museum is a great secret find! It's small, but it's packed with interactive exhibits that make it a lot of fun to explore. The staff are super friendly and the shop is lovely. You can easily spend an hour or two here, but it's better to go when there are fewer people around so you can really take your time. It's an amazing experience that I would highly recommend to anyone interested in film or movies, or whoever likes to play around, really! 5/5 stars.

This interactive museum let's you explore first-hand how film developed, and what discoveries had to first be made about our eyes and brain. You can play around with sound and even make your own soundtrack to movies. At the end, you can make your own animation and learn how much work goes into it! Highly recommend, for adults and kids!

The museum is quite small but definitely worth a visit! The staff is also super helpful. My favorite part was the sound recording studio where we could create our own foley effects. I recommend to actually try everything that the museum has to offer, and not just speed-walk through the rooms, to get the full experience. This could be a fun place to visit with a small friend group.

An amazing little museum and a great way to spend a couple of hours on a rainy day! Very reasonable price for entry (we paid 160czk each) and all staff were lovely throughout our visit and very helpful explaining the details of the exhibits to us. Even as 4 adults we had so much fun with all the interactive exhibits, especially creating our own soundtrack to a film clip. Very detailed information on the film making process as well as a bit of silliness. Would definitely recommend to anybody as a must see in Prague!

Written February 19, 2019
Hello, I'm sorry for my a bit belated answer! It is possible to walk around the museum with the stick, although the museum is not fully obstacle free: there are about 6 steps down that lead to the cashier and the first floor of the museum and stairs to the lower floor. Unfortunately there are no disabled toilets... The reduced price (students, seniors over 60 years old) is 120 czk, you don't need a passport to get the reduction. For disabled visitors we offer reduced price 70 czk. Hope it answers all your questions, let us know if you have any additional ones. All the best from Prague!
