Nearly 700 hundred meters long, Wenceslas Square represents the most frequent and buzzing crossroads of the city. The National Museum in the upper part of the square watches over your spending spree in countless shops and retail stores lining the entire square, which ends at Na Příkopě, the most famous shopping street. When tired or broke, you can explore the city's underpasses, which can take you to the Old Town or to the courtyards of art nouveau houses with secret gems of greenery, white benches and rose bushes that provide unexpected peace in the midst of the city. Be sure to pay a visit to the traditional cafés, classic Czech pubs, cinemas and theaters. National Theater near the river has a lot to offer to foreigners. Go to the river bank and enjoy live music and drinks while watching a sunset behind Prague Castle.

- A A18 contributionsThis is how good ALL tours should be.This museum is such a gem! I've been traveling for 5 weeks and this was the beat tour I've taken yet. Our guide was very engaging, knowledgeable, and funny. It's a great way to learn about an important part of this country's history.Visited October 2023Traveled soloWritten October 26, 2023
- Mel P123 contributionsHidden history amazing contentAbsolutely loved this. It’s a must do if you are interested in history of the Cold War. It’s hidden under the jalta hotel and you need to book in advance. The tour guide was very informative and he obviously has a passion for his job which shows. Takes about an hour to ninety minutes and you can see the armoury and listening devices used amongst other rooms ( let’s not spoil it ) you can also crawl through a tunnel to see the escape ladder. Big tip… it gets warm down there so wear comfy clothes, bags can be left in secure lockers.Visited October 2023Traveled soloWritten November 5, 2023
- Henleaze123Bristol, United Kingdom25 contributionsFascinating tourWhat a great tour. It had been recommended to us prior to travel and was well worth the reasonable entry price. Our guide was lovely and told us so much about the history of the bunker which was constructed under the Hotel Jalta. The exhibits on display were really interesting particularly the Command Centre and the room where the hotel's numerous listening devices were monitored. One of the highlights of our Prague trip!Visited November 2023Traveled with friendsWritten November 22, 2023

- Shannon C1 contributionGreat tour with a lovely guideAmazing museum! Our tour guide Jacob was lovely, really informative about the subject and had a perfect balance of fun and sensitivity. You could tell how invested he was in sharing his knowledge which made it so much more enjoyable. The bunker itself was really well recreated but the highlight was definitely crawling through the old escape route!Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 19, 2024
- Connor WWolverhampton, United Kingdom5 contributionsEngaging and full of historyAbsolutely amazing tour/museum. The gentleman leading us around was knowledgable and engaging, and the exhibits were both eerie and interesting in their own right. Only lasts about an hour but it is the most unique tour I have ever been on. Full of history, and great facts on the Cold War. There was a group of 4 of us and it was enjoyed by allVisited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 21, 2024
- bigbonglo2 contributionsGreatFairly brief but excellent walk through of a very interesting piece of history. The tour guide was nice and informative and there is plenty to look at and do on throughout the tour. The only problem I had was finding the place itself. It did say in my email that it was in Jalta Hotel, but there is nothing outside to indicate that it was in there.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 9, 2024
- GeorgiiVienna, Austria37 contributionsGood choice if you are into the topicThe museum is very nice! One can interact with the interior, which makes it more fun. The guide was friendly and tried his best to make the guests' experience better. However, sometimes, it was a bit hard to understand his English. Nevertheless, he was doing a very good job. The museum is not really about the Cold War, but more about a certain bunker (which you will explore during the tour) and which rooms it has. It also gives you some insights into how the Secret Service used to work back in the day.Visited July 2024Traveled soloWritten July 25, 2024
- suemH4111XCLondon, United Kingdom7 contributionsUnderground Cold War nuclear bunkerVery atmospheric and unique insight into the communist built 1950’s bunker and listening post for guests in the hotel above. Great explanation of the purpose of building the hotel and its bunker and good demos of the working ventilation system. Very sinister that it was secret right until 1980’s. The guide was great and explained it all very well with some humour .Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 11, 2024

Contrary to the information on this site, the museum is NOT temporarily closed any more. It's open! Just go to the hotel reception and ask, or book the tour directly on the museum's website. My boyfriend and I visited the museum during our trip to Prague last week. We were lucky to be the only two people on our tour, so we could ask our guide a lot of questions. She was incredibly knowledgeable and gave us a very educational insight into the history of Czechoslovakia after World War II, and how it shaped Czech culture and self-perception nowadays. This was highly interesting not only in light of the recent events in Ukraine. She presented everything in a professional, fact-oriented manner, while the stories and images left a lasting impression on both of us. Tours usually last about 1 hour to 1 hour 15 mins. Unfortunately they are not allowed to advertise much since the hotel does not want them to, so the museum really doesn't get the attention it deserves. We highly recommend giving it a chance!

I had read in my guide that it was possible to visit a bunker located in the basement of the Jalta hotel which was at the time the best hotel in Soviet times.
We reserved our places at the hotel reception, I didn't think to ask the price and I found it too expensive, around 40 euros for 2 adults and 2 children.
The visit was interesting, the guide had a perfect command of English but spoke too quickly and it was sometimes difficult to follow...
The bunker is not big but allows you to see what Soviet times could have been like. I understand one of the previous opinions which said that it perhaps deserved complete stories or anecdotes...
I do not regret this visit but once again I think that the price is not justified and I do not recommend it to people who do not have a perfect command of English.

This is a great little museum hidden underneath the Hotel Jalta. It can be difficult to find and visits must be booked in advance as each tour party is less than 10.
You get a great insight into a Cold War bunker and the mentality of the state at the time. It reminded me that we take our freedoms so much for granted.
The tour guide was full of enthusiasm and answered every question with detailed answers.
Prague is a fantastic city and this is one of the perhaps quirkier tours but well worth the 90 minutes spent under the city.

I love anything Cold War so this was a must on my visit to Prague. The museum is hidden under a hotel which is simple to find on a busy area. You are escorted town by your guide in a lift, then stairs. We had the brilliant Barbara who was dressed up in uniform and was fun, interesting and knowledgeable. The bunker has guns you can hold, a escape tunnel to try and lots of kit and gear used during the era. The highlight is the phone tapping of the hotel rooms above. Really fun tour. Enjoyed!

I came to Prague with my 13 yr old son and wanted a place to teach him the history but not bore him.
I chose here because it’s a nuclear bunker.. exciting! And a museum.
From the moment we walked into the hotel jata I knew I made the right choice.
The tour guide was dressed in old uniform, spoke amazing English and instantly put us all at ease with her jokes and enthusiasm.
We went down in the elevator ( be aware there is no toilet as it is separate from the hotel) we had lockers to place our coats and bags as it is warm down there and then we were off!
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and made it interactive by getting people to hold items, go through the escape tunnel, experience what they can.
Her humour is on the dark side but with parents who lived through this era, I get it and to be honest.. she was on point with her delivery!
My son loved it as did the other teenagers there.
Our tour guide works on Thursdays.
You have to pre book on the web site but you pay on the day. They only have 12 slots per group as the rooms are small so it’s an intimate experience.

Our excellent English speaking guide, Esther, was entertaining in the way she explained the history of the era. Without sugar coating the every day privations and dangers for Czech citizens of the time, she made us laugh while we learned. Only 12 people at a time( bunkers have poky rooms) so I felt able to ask questions as we went. This was easily the best tour I've ever been and I can't recommend it highly enough ❤️

This 75 minute tour was quite well done. You do not pay in advance but rather reserve a time slot for a tour and then meet in a hotel lobby. From there you take an elevator down to begin the tour. The guide takes on the persona of a Russian military person gathering intel during the Cold War and walks you through several rooms of a bunker used for spying and other things. Quite unique and our guide was great!

This museum is an authentic nuclear bunker hidden in the basement of the Yalta Hotel on Wenceslaus Square.
Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and answered our many questions without hesitation.
The tour gave us a fascinating insight into the mentality of the Soviet rulers of the country and the various techniques they employed to suppress the Czech people.
We left knowing a lot more than we expected to and would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this tour.

I'm sure this is a fantastic tour and glimpse into how the communists ran things during the Cold War. I'm positive the bunker is an incredible experience. But I wouldn't know. On my last day in Prague I made a reservation for the 4:00 PM tour. I came to the Jalta lobby promptly at four and sat and waited for the person who takes you to the bunker.
And I waited. And waited. And people came and went and I waited.
By 20 past I gave up and left, having wasted my afternoon on a tour I never got to take, and it's now too late to really hit up any other museums, leaving me frustrated and a touch bitter.

Came here following the Prague Nuclear Bunker tour.
An absolute mountain of information and details about communism. There is plenty of posters and propaganda details to demonstrate how communism transpires, as I have not experienced, nor been aware of many of the details about communism.
We didn't have much time, but could easily have spent an hour or two here. Plenty of variety so suitable for a wide range of age groups.
Deeply upsetting, but a vital part of the museum, to remember those who suffered trying to immigrate.

Hello! Is a tour guide required for entry into the museum?
Written August 10, 2024
Yes, they take you down into the bunker with a reservation. This isn’t a museum in the classic sense but more of a tour.
Written September 13, 2024
After booking a tour on the website, can I confirm that you pay the guide before the start? And are cards accepted?
Written September 12, 2023
We paid at the start of the tour via card.
Written September 13, 2024
Bonjour tout le monde.
Quelqu'un pourrait-il me confirmer les créneaux possibles pour les visites guidées svp? Et doit-on acheter un billet avant ou directement à l'hôtel? J'ai lu plusieurs versions..
Merci d'avance!

Is the floor uneven in the bunker? (for a person with mobility issues)
Written September 10, 2018
Floor is ok but a fairly Long set of stairs lead down to the bunker.
Written September 10, 2018
How much stairs are there? Is it really hard if you have mobility issues?
Written August 30, 2018
Quite a bit of stairs. It’s all in a bunker way below the hotel. First section you have an elevator but then I’d say at least 20 steps further down.
