Nearly 700 hundred meters long, Wenceslas Square represents the most frequent and buzzing crossroads of the city. The National Museum in the upper part of the square watches over your spending spree in countless shops and retail stores lining the entire square, which ends at Na Příkopě, the most famous shopping street. When tired or broke, you can explore the city's underpasses, which can take you to the Old Town or to the courtyards of art nouveau houses with secret gems of greenery, white benches and rose bushes that provide unexpected peace in the midst of the city. Be sure to pay a visit to the traditional cafés, classic Czech pubs, cinemas and theaters. National Theater near the river has a lot to offer to foreigners. Go to the river bank and enjoy live music and drinks while watching a sunset behind Prague Castle.

This is an old train station, right smack in the middle of the city. We had some extra time to kill, does not happen often, but we thought we put it to good use and take a look at how much has changed here since we last took a train out of Prague many years ago.

The front of the building looks the same as I remember it, and inside did not seem to change all that much either. I suppose the trains are more modern these days.
We have not used the trains or buses to travel in Europe, we know the Europeans love it, but we prefer to rent a car.

The train station is quite conveniently located to several large chain hotels, both Hiltons and Marriott are in walking distance. It is not in a particularly nice area of Prague, but it is considered to be a safe neighborhood.

There is a small bakery stand at the corner and all the pastries looked delicious.
Later we went to a fantastic restaurant just across the street called Portfolio.

The train station was built in 1845. The stained glass windows are there as I remembered it. In contrast, the Portfolio restaurant is a new and modern enterprise.
Old and new on the same street - that's Prague for you...

This station is like everyone else. It is pretty dirty and untidy. It has a lot of restaurants where you can eat well. And everyone can be sure enough under protection because there is police everywhere. Certainly it is not a station where I would like to go several times a year, only when I have to. I can recommend the best trains as Regio Jet. For example, compared to the Vienna Railway Station, this is nothing. But from the outside, it is a beautiful building that everyone should see.

I did not take fotos so I show you one of Internet. I am really sorry😢

The station has 2 levels as others have described. Take your time and figure that out, we did and on the lower level saw the signage with the symbol showing a heritage building - follow that and go up the escalator it points to and viola you are in a pretty cool dome. Out on the platforms you are in a very spacious industrial arching roof a great example of its time and then lastly downstairs you will see an area with a red ceiling of large squares each with a round opening, and each of these with a series of straight Fluoro looking lights - this is one of the early czech modern buildings. So travel and quite s bit of architecture at the same time - see my photos and decide for yourself.
We also walked 13 minutes into the city rather than pay 25euro one cab tried to pull on us.

WE decided to take a Train Journey out to Kutna Hura and have a look at the Countryside of Prague. Although long, it was in the long run well worthwhile. The Female Staff Member on the Desk was extremely Friendly and Helpful

Forget many nice shops for food 🥘, grocery or other necessities like other newly built or reconstructed stations. Just very nice building and inside is ruled by history. Maybe some inspiration needed from big cities. The ticket counter is hide and seek 😭

Wandering around this part of the city I checked out Prague Masaryk Station out of curiosity to be honest as the building looked rather cool.
An old fashioned railway station ,this added to the charm of it ,well laid out ,interesting buildings, fast food outlets some statues ,quite an interesting place to visit for 10 or 15 minutes to check it out ,I took some photos while checking out the station before moving on ,it's well worth a look if you're in the area and easy to locate along Havlichkova.

BEWARE OF PICKPOCKETS!

Took train from Prague to Berlin and was pickpocketed as I got on the train. I felt somebody bump me when putting luggage on the rack in first class. Pretty sure that is when it happened. Was wearing cargo shorts with wallet in front pocket.

Still shocked that I did not feel it. They are good at this! The thief had a conscience as my wallet was returned to me. Not sure how they got it out of my pocket and back in my seat without me noticing a thing. They only took cash-no credit cards or id.

There was a lot of activity in the car (people up and down aisles as we were getting on).

The people here suck. Asked 4 people for help ( they worked at the help desk) all had were rude jerks. Then you wait for about 10 mins before your train leaves to find out the track it will be on. Then its a mad rush with lots of others to get on the trains.
One tip, on the boards look for a tiny red box. If your train has this red box the tracks are all the way on the left side of the building. Blue tracks are down the middle.

This is a tale of two stations. If you arrive by rail or bus, you’ll experience the chaotic, crowded lower level, which has almost no redeeming features. If you wish to utilize a lift rather than stairs from/to platforms, be prepared for what can be a lengthy walk to and fro.
If you’re departing, and if you’re dropped off at their upper level, you’ll see the Historic Prague Station, a completely different and atmospheric sight. This is mixed news, however, as you’ll have to make your down to the lower functional level to access most platforms.
We arrived early, not knowing the landscape, and were glad of it, After enjoying the historic station we struggled down with our luggage, descending into near-chaos.
Things work, but they are stingy with amenities like monitor space. So for example, platforms seem not to be posted until 20 minutes before departure. So everyone queues up elbow to elbow and just waits.
Of course our nice train to Dresden was out a Platform 11 (of 11), the lift to accommodate us and a month’s worth of luggage was at the farthest end of the platform, and as fate would have it, our first class coach as at the other end, 13 cars away. We made it, but barely. Not sure why they punish 1st class pax this way, maybe that goes back to days gone by.
We still love traveling by rail, but maybe these tips will help some others be prepared for a lovely ride. Once you get underway, Prague-Dresden is a very nice trip along the Vltava/Elbe.
One last tip: we were most grateful that we booked ahead with the Palais Taschenberg and requested a transfer (20 Euros). They instructed us specifically to wait on the arrival platform for gathering driver to meet us. What a relief!

We popped in out of curiosity, as the building outside looked interesting and to see if there was anywhere for a quick coffee. It felt forlorn, cold and windswept, with the concourse end being open to the weather and with only a few kiosks, apart from a Costa Coffee, which are stand alone for "grab-and go". Parts of the building were in need of a little care.

It is the second oldest railway station in Prague and I understand that it will be reconstructed to provide a new (and much needed) railway connection to the airport, so that might explain its current condition.
