Your experience in Prague will never be complete if you do not see it from the top. Hillsides, stretched from the west to the north, provide spectacular views of greenish copper cupolas, narrow cobblestone streets, bridges connecting both river banks and green gardens from red-roof tops of centuries-old houses. Prague pulls you into its 1300 year old history. Walking up the hill or stairs to Prague Castle, the historical seat of Czech rulers and the majestic Saint Vitus Cathedral can leave you speechless (and out of breath). Luckily, plenty of terrace cafés overlooking gardens and beautiful parks are available to provide rest and a place to catch your breath again.

The Old Castle steps - 121 of them ....

Prague is hilly , the Castle sits on the top and there are few different ways to get there.
The Castle steps start on the bottom in the Klarov area , close to the metro. Surrounded by walls on both sides , there are still some views over to one side to enjoy. Walking up the hill you will end up by the main gate to the Castle.

Relatively new addition is the statue of Karel Hasler, famous Czech composer and musician. The romantic song "Up the old castle steps " was a favorite of my father's generation.

Climbing up the steps and singing the song as kids, is what I remember negotiating the walk down. Prefer that, to the steep climb up these days ....

One of the best and nicest parts of our visit was the walk up to the castle... Takes you by some lovely sights and buildings and affords good views across the city.

A stepped street, which detaches from Thunovska street and takes you to the castle. Tiresome to climb but offers a beautiful view of the city.

What most people see in this area is the Zemeke Schody stairs because those that have the stamina hike up them to the top of Castle Hill. I believe there are somewhere in the range of 200 or steps. It's a very nice walk and turning around you get an ever increasing view of the old town below. We walked up the stairs at 9:00 AM on a late July day and it was already getting very warm. We walked down the road behind the castle in the afternoon where it was mostly shady and very few tourists.

This is a set of stairs which can be used to get to and from Prague castle and the surrounding district. We walked down them and it provided great views over Prague and also to see the old buildings that lined the steps. They are not too steep and are quite wide which made them easy to walk down.

These are the old castle stairs by which people walked to and from the castle. We walked down them and it provided good views as well as walking along side old buildings. The stairs themselves are not steep and it is easy to walk down them. It is the best way to get to the bottom of the hill and bak into the old town across the Charles Bridge.

Yeah, the view is beautiful from there, since it's a high place. Also the food sold there is awesome, like the spiral potatoes on a stick, or the dessert made with fruits (I can't remember the name now). Everything is expensive, of course, it's a very touristic area, and they also accept Euros, besides czech crowns.
