Worth a visit to see giant sports stadium built dueing communist era for gymnastics displays. Stadium held 250,000 so truly huge. Is crumbling now but we got to see a Sparta prague team training there when we went in for a wander to look around. Worth a visit if you like football stadiums and to see something that you wouldn't see anywhere else, likely wouldn't get built today and might not be there forever .

A massive imposing concrete structure that houses several full sized football pitches and is currently used as a training facility by Sparta Prague.

You can just walk right into the car park and take a look around the stadium (or at least I think you can, there was no signage to say not to and we weren't removed or shouted at), but you can't go up into the stands for safety reasons.

If you're up Petrin hill then it's definitely worth the five minute walk over, particularly if you have an interest in sport or stadia.

Massive stadium harking back to the Soviet Mayday parades now used by the local football team Sparta to train on. I was I awe of such a big stadium. Whilst it was a little tumble down and we just wandered in it was an experience I won’t forget.

If you don't really love sports or stadiums then Strahov Stadium isn't for you at all. It's not advertised in any guide books or any tourist brochures and there's a clear reason for that: it's a crumbling mess. It's just a relic from the Communist era, which Sparta Prague have somehow managed to make use of by housing their training complex there. But this is remarkably the largest stadium ever built, capable of holding 220,000 at one point. It was used primarily for largy gymnastic displays, and very little else, making it just a very large, pointless statement to the rest of the world - sums up what the Cold War was about and that's one of the reasons I found it so fascinating. It's big, ugly, massively vandalised, doesn't look safe and should probably be torn down but I strangely enjoyed my visit and if you like your stadiums it's worth visiting if you're up Petrin Hill anyway.

As a football fan this is an impressive stadium to see regardless that it was built for gymnastics. Training ground of Sparta Prague it was surprisingly easy to access as we went straight through the front door on to the pitches. Not a must see in prague if you have limited time but really worth it if you do.

Amazing structure......massive pity it isn’t in use anymore...managed to get a footy match inside though when Everton youths were playing in a tournament.....when inside u see the true magnitude of the stadium....beautiful even if it’s crumbling....would be superb to see it renovated and parts of it maintained

What a strange place old and falling apart on the outside - a great sporting facility on the inside.
You can only imagine what it was like in its day.
There is one door open between this stadium and the newer one next door to allow you inside to view.

Mainly of interest as a vestige of the Soviet empire. This massive stadium supposedly had a capacity of 250,000, making it one of the largest in the world (although there is/was actual seating for only 56,000. In its heyday, the stadium was used for synchronized gymnastics and most of the quarter million capacity were actually performers! The place is now in disrepair, but still used for some events and activities.

Originally built to hold a rhythmic gymnastics event. Not really much too see and just looks a concrete wreck. When we were there a Sparta Prague junior team were playing a match. If it's what you like then maybe worth a visit.

We drove past this as part of a tour (Gray Line Pragues Full Day Prague Tour, including Prague Castle, River Cruise and Lunch for £54.00 per person which for value for money I recommend) and only saw the outside, the size of which is ridiculous.

It was used as a sports stadium and during the Communist reign as a place for rallies and events where 300,000 people would gather.

Its nothing special but really does warrant a drive by or if not possible a view from Petrin Tower.
