Gothic Stone Fountain. The intensive mining activity of the Middle Ages disrupted the underground water sources. The problem was solved in 1495 when this stone fountain was constructed to serve as a water reservoir. Drinking water was brought via wooden piping from the spring of St. Adalbert and the town was supplied water this way until 1890.

This Gothic Stone Fountain is situated right in the central square. A beautiful piece of architecture that was probably used to gather water for humans and animals.

This is situated in the middle of the town and was used as a water collection point. The air was crisp and clean on the day that we visited and we really enjoyed our walk through the town.

The Gothic stone fountain is a fountain on Rejsek Square that was built in 1493 by Matěj Rejsek. The Gothic influences are clear as all around the fountain are Gothic style sculptures and miniature towers. The fountain is twelve-sided and exceptionally large for something only has a couple of water outlets and seems to be fully enclosed with a hexagonal roof. The fountain doesn’t seem to dispense water, at least not when I was there.

The fountain is considered a landmark of the city and is worth looking for its monumental size, although I wouldn’t go out of the way unless you have time.

At first it is just a surprise in the middle of a small square. When you walk around you realize that this is interesting fountain, important for the old city. Citizens care and maintain the fountain as centuries ago. It was built in the 15. Century and has some Gothic details.

The fountain was probably built in 1493-1495. It is a richly decorated twelve-sided stone prism in the late Gothic style. The builder captured the relationship of the inhabitants to the precious water, which in the Middle Ages had to be brought to the town by several kilometers long wooden pipeline.
The fountain served as a reservoir of drinking water until 1890.

We were exploring the town after lunch and came across this by chance. Great to see 13th century architecture so well preserved.

This would be considered a Gothic architecture, dating to the 15th century. I would not make a special trip.
