The town is very beautiful but getting there was a bit of a hassle. We went on a Sunday. The return bus was so full we had to take the train which took 3 hours and more expensive. The train terminal was under reconstruction so we had to walk across the tracks. There was a new information centre but it sold train tickets to Czechs only. There was a big city map hanging in a glass box on the road which was hard to read under the sun. No one could point to us how to get to the town (Stara Louka). Though there were bus number 13 but without knowing where it would lead us, we took a taxi, thinking we could rely on the meters. The taxi raged like a bull, jumping from 25 Kc to 800 Kc in less than 15 minutes.
Later we learned that there were many different information centres run by different organizations. We took the bus back to the train station, at 25Kc!
It was a disgrace to have these taxi drivers rip off tourists at such a beautiful place.

A picturesque town fun to walk around.
Taste and take in the delicate round waffles that sell on site - both delicious and a unique gift.
You will see a lot of people walking around with different glasses, this is to fill the spring water that comes from taps along the promenade.

Our first stop in Czech Republic was Karlovy Vary. It seemed strange that all the shops were offering almost the same rate. Take my advice and exchange your money in this town. We did not and regretted it in Prague where almost every shop takes 22% commission and offers alarming low rates. The rates at KV were slightly lower than the exchange price online.

The town and surroundings are absolutely amazing. But thermal water? We went to a public spa, and there was just an ordinary cold swimming pool. For a bath in thermal water (20 min, from 400 czk) you have to make a reservation at least one day ahead. And it closes at 15 pm.. Carlsbad, if you want tourism to flourish again, make the thermal baths accessible!

When in need of escaping the hustle and bustle, head to Karlovy vary.
A charming, beautiful, incredible place.
It reminded me of Disney with the various colors of the buildings.
You can visit some churches/historical places but what you really must do, is
Have lunch at Capri (a delicious Italian Restaurant), and have a Massage at one of the spa centers (make sure to reserve the massage before going), and have a tour on one of the carriages.

Very nice city, about 2:30 hours from Prague, it is the SPA city. Very cozy, nice city, there is a mosque in the centre. Full of spring water & SPA centres
If you go yourself you will save 80%. the return ticket from Florence bus station costs 12 € only, while it cost 67 € with the tourist company.

KARLOVY VARY....epitomises the type of place where you go to get away from the hustle, bustle and pressures of 21st Century life.
YET....it is deeply historical, chic and upscale, picturesque, clean, and you will soon discover...why so many famous and infamous world figures from European Kings and Queens, Hollywood A List Stars, European great musical composers to philosophers like Karl Marx....have been escaping to this historical Spa Town since the 14th Century.
YET....it is unspoilt....picturesque (photographers dream location) and ...why poet and writers like Johann Wolfgang of the past and many of the 21st Century....keep escaping to KARLOVY VARY to explore its hypnotising charms and appeal.

So much history, so much luxury, so much water in the river that flows through the heart of KARLOVY VARY. So many dining possibilities, so many chic and top brand stores in a small area, so many 5 Star hotels (for example.....the famous Grand Hotel PUPP - location for Last Holiday and Casino Royale movies.

So many steep hills to walk, mountains to climb, cobble streets to explore, gastronomy to sample, shopping to browse and culture to stimulate the senses. My kind of place.

Carlsbad is known for its hot springs (60) and12 of them are used in the spa treatments;its spa tradition is mondialy recoqnize. The town is situated on the confluenceof Tepla (Warm) river and Ohre river, at 400m above sea level and it is surrounded by mountians. Thus weather is nicely tempered, rather on cool side, lovely in the Summer.Town is a place of culture, architecture, music, film festivals, musea, (Fine Arts,Moser,Becher),fine boutiques (Prada ,Escada, Bogner) ,restaurants, hotels(Pupp,Imparial, Bristol etc.) and above all, the place of thermal spa. The curative povers of hot springs mineral water in drinking cure, baths as well as in number of special treatments is well documented.

The town was founded by the Bohemina King , German and Roman Emperor the Charles IV. The last year the town celebrated its 700 years anniversary and its history reads like a fanciful novel. This uterly unique town was shaped by historic dynamics.Everybody can find attraction/activity to sui; somebody likes promenades, parks with unique trees and in the spring there are blooming azalias, rhododendrons, magnolias, lilas etc.Calrsbad has so much to offer and caters to every traveler. You may also explore interesting neighborhood as the Loket medival castle,Marien Bath the spa famous for its Singing Fontane and the beautiful "lace" collonade, the historic towns As and music lover can even visit the house of the famous composer Richard Wagner in German Bayrouth. I am returning to Carlsbad yearly for the last 30 years.Try it,you will feel great! Statistics indicate that 3 weeks/year complete spa treatment after 50,
prolong good health

Took a day trip from Prague to this beautiful spa town. With its beautiful colonnades, many spas, art deco buildings, small river and promenades, the city has a small town feel. It is a great place for relaxing and unwinding and takes you back in time.

Do try some of the water from the springs and take a stroll along the river. Depending on your interest, you could also visit the Moser glass factory, try the local Becherovka and visit the famous Grandhotel Pupp.

A day trip is enough to visit most of the attractions in the city but you could always stay over if you want to relax.
